1. We banned ourselves from the Royal Oak (I think?) in Erdington, all our friends band's had their cars damaged outside and or a bar fight during the gig, we played there twice without a problem and decided the chances of playing a third without a serious issue was slim!
2. You can also set yourself an individual layer on your tablet rather than view the entire band to use during the gig if you want.
3.
would be interesting trying to tweak your sound on the fly going direct into the X18, the interface on a tablet is tricky as f**k, I'll stick with my DI box thanks!
What would you be tweaking? Once the in ears he is using are set and the foh is mixed there shouldn't be any on the fly really should there?
4. I did a gig last year with no monitoring at all for the first 7 or 8 songs, when I say no monitoring I'm taking no bass amp, no guitar amp and no wedges (which were going to be our sole monitoring), nothing for vocals at all! Oh dear that was tricky
5. I got mine purely as a replacement five string version of my pre EB Ray, it's the closest thing with five strings, I haven't noticed any difference in neck profiles between the three SR5s I've got? My middle aged spread is taking shape nicely too
6.
I'll add my vote to say get a Stingray Classic fiver - they sound amazing and look fab. Beautifully built too...
Already done it
7. You could if you really wanted to just put a normal cigarette box sized di inline if you wanted.
8.
But you can filter some noises with a DI box.
I suspect an xair mixer can do about a gazillion things more than a di box! It's got a built in bass amp, compressors, fx and a 31 band eq just for starters
9. I've been clean di since around 2003! Go for it
10. Where's Gene Hunt when you need him? , bit of a clip round the ear until he confesses is what he needs!
11. I've never really understood the problem, there must be a hit record from every genre recorded on a Stingray, if you want to play with one technique and try and make the bass do the work maybe it's a problem? Play near the neck, play near the bridge, use a pick, use your thumb, give it a slap, cut the treble, if you are still getting one sound out of it before you've even started using the active eq then I'm not sure what's going on User error
12. Boooooom boooooom check 1-2 check 1-2!!!!
13. They do have a really strong pull, if positioned too near the strings they will actually stop the string vibrating and spoil the sustain!
14. I swapped 3 four string Stingrays for 3 five string Stingrays so that created a fresh start for me in 2010 onwards.
15. I've played a rubbish 37" B and a rubbish 34", I've also played some great 35" and 34". I've actually got a Fender with a very useable B which I never thought possible!
16.
I can't agree with that. Most of the world best players and biggest bands use amps and cabs easily obtainable from your local store. The likes of Ampeg, Ashdown, orange etc. If they're good enough for superstars and huge bands, then they're good enough for me! I very rarely see any boutique amps or cabs being used. (as good as I'm sure they are).
Most of the people using those on massive stages are usually wearing in ears though
17. That looks ace!
18. I presume someone on the tour possibly a band mate might have worked that out then and that's why they went to check on him, so sad
19. Afaik from news reports last night he was found hanging in his hotel room by a friend that went to check on him.
20. It's not just the bedroom hero dentist in his 50s types that turn their noses up though either, I had some young lads (20s) in a band laughing at my 'Stingray copy' years ago huddled around in the back stage dressing room, I didn't bother engaging them but I knew what they were saying regards the missing features of a genuine EBMM, the look on their faces was brilliant when an older mate of theirs came back stage and spotted it "wow is that a real pre EB Stingray, can I look at it?" , "yes it is and of course have a go if you like" I knew of the guy a bit and knew he was alright and a bassist! He went on to bore them about how good a bass it is for ages after, it is too Foxx of this parish has it now I think?
21. I had a trans green 320 the 20 bit would have added gold hardware to it so it won't be a 420, more likely a 410 but I'm not sure what the first number relates to? Brilliant bass, I'm not sure who has it now and the serial number rubbed off as it's just a sticker and I played it a lot!
22.
I disagree about the Audi S-Line. I think there's no confusion between say an Audi A3 S-Line and an Audi S3... the badge is pretty different, and there are none of the outwardly distinct S-series features. The S-Line does look a little 'sportier' than the standard models, but it's to do with stuff like the wheels and stuff. The interior of the S-Line is 'pretty', with leather seats etc, and I think that's the sort of thing that attract people to the S-Line, not looking like an S3 or S4 or whatever. Yes, you guessed it, I own an S-Line A3 I got it used, and the fact it was an S-Line was actually one of the negative points when I went to try it. I don't care for low profile tires and sporty suspension (you feel every little bump on the road, which gets tiring in everyday use), but it looks nice especially inside, it feels great, I loved the seats, it drives really nice... and it was red and the boot fitted my two cabs perfectly... so I went for it. Mine is the one with the smallest engine in the range, which suited me... I had a 1.6 Golf before, and this is a 1.4 Turbo which is slightly more powerful, with noticeably nicer acceleration, and it's a lot more fun to drive even if it's most definitely not a racing car... and all that while getting a much better MPG than my old Golf. I don't think anybody sees my car and thinks it's highly powered. It just has nice aesthetic touches compared to the standard version. I only wish it had smaller wheels with higher profile tires and less 'sporty' suspension... although I have to admit I love the way it handles bendy A and B roads, where lots of other cars have to slow down I can just sail through. ANYWAY... carry on... I just had to come in and defend part of what the S-Line provides. It looks pretty standard and nothing like an S3... "S-Line" just specifies a particular interior and some minor externally visible details like the wheels...
One thing that grinds my gears is 'Sport' models, I'd make a law that says you can't call it a sport unless it is used somewhere in a sport, a Citroen Picasso sport? Hhmm which bit is sporting? Ah rant over.
23.
you're terrible
Thanks
24. I'm not really a fan of labels to define bands so I'd put Mike Patton in the list too, still no match for Cornell, what a shame when he was still spreading joy to thousands on the live scene.
