1. I've started using a single 12 on stage tilted back and a clanky eq, pre eq to the full range PA. The only solution to dispersion around the whole stage is in ears really.
 2. I can't recall seeing any preamp that doesn't use the jack to switch it on and off? For anyone interested it's a clever way of doing it imo, they use a stereo jack TRS, (tip, ring & sleeve) but where a stereo end plugged in would contact in the three places a standard phono we use on our leads shorts out the R & S (ring and sleeve) to complete the power circuit from the onboard battery, simple but effective. T-bay I presume you are testing from a battery terminal with an inline ammeter? As the amplifier circuit isn't amplifying anything the drain will be minimal, I bet a stingray will last for months plugged in if you don't mind buying 2 or 3 batteries a year instead of the 1 most of use Ray players use?

 4.
Thanks everyone for the kind comments and birthday wishes! Yes - I have wonderful friends. I understand it took many hours to make. But it tasted as good as it looks! All the best to those of you who will be turning the same corner very soon Drop hints now about bass cakes!
I'm thinking about a double bass cake now!
 5.
And that is of course exactly how it should be dealt with. So for all of you who claim that CC are a bunch of crooks and routinely knowingly handle stolen goods, I am an ex CC manager and we ALWAYS wound up losing whatever we had paid for anything that showed up stolen when the real owner came in and claimed them.
I'm not disputing that you don't return the goods, the guy on here last time went in with the police and the police and the store were more than familiar with the seller. If you've done all your checks properly you can then take the seller to court.
 6. I unplug anyway too even if it's passive.
 7.
You don't mention if you had insured the items and if yes, did the insurance company pay your claim. If yes then the items belong to the insurance company and you should notify them. N
This is exactly what happened, the vehicle had been stolen over a year earlier and the owners had been paid out so it now belonged to the insurer who offered it at a decent price, obviously it was then cat D too. It actually turned out to be a good van over a good few years.
 8.
I'll put my hands up. Ownership is wrong, what I should be saying is that a claim against the seller for monies lost is the issue. I obviously got the 'wrong end of the ownership stick' on this. If you've been £4k out of pocket Pete for something stolen you bought in good faith (it seems that cars are a different matter) then you should have redress against the seller. I was advised while in the 'job' by someone experienced and in authority that ownership wasn't to be assumed to be the original owner in such cases and I took this as gospel. Just goes to show you can't always trust a copper.
The vehicle was stolen and sold on by what turned out to be travellers, they used someone else's house to sell it from where the owner was on holiday, the sellers children were watching tv in their pyjamas in the front room! That's the trouble with the getting the cash back bit from thieves isn't it? They don't tend to wait for you to come back
 9.
And (as a currently practicing solicitor) the analogy drawn with cars is erroneous, as there is specific legislation which deals with vehicles sold without notice of a finance agreement. The legal principle is 'nemo date non quod habet' which means that a vendor cannot sell what he does not have good title to. There are various statutory and case law provisions relating to this but in general the innocent buyer cannot acquire good title in stolen goods.
Ignoring the finance agreement the same rules apply don't they? If it's not yours to sell it's not your property be it on finance, loan or owned outright someone somewhere owns it that hasn't given permission to sell it.
 10. At the risk of repeating myself, if you purchase something for a 'fair' price in good faith then you have a right to raise the matter before a civil court and ownership or reasonable claim will be considered? ^ This is the only part I'm disputing, in some very very unusual cases regarding valuable items over large periods of time then very possibly, an amp in cash converters where the OP has a receipt with a serial number from PMT I really hope common sense will prevail!
 11.
Apologies for getting a little aerated. All i'm trying to say is that if you have been a genuine buyer then you needn't be out of pocket if the goods turn out to be stolen as you can make a claim against the seller.
No problem, so no case for ownership etc as you previously posted
 12. https://www.netlawman.co.uk/ia/selling-goods-non-owner#Seller in possession after sale This sums it up as clearly as possible imo and for all but the most complicated of cases as long as you can prove the goods are yours you'll be handed them back and the buyer, in this case cash converters, lose out and need to take up the dispute with the person that bought them in.
 13.
Yes I'm bloody well lying. I was never a police officer and I haven't experience of exactly this in real life. I come on here just to cause annoyance and wind people up! Ferrchrissakes.........
I've had real life experience on the other end Peter, if only my solicitor had been a police officer before law school I'd have been £4k better off now then
 14.
Exactly. I've heard of people having cars taken off them a couple of years after buying them when the 'real' owner has tracked it down.
Yes I've added another link from a solicitors site. The person who had a pedal board turn up in a CC got it back there and then, it belongs to him and he proved it.
 15.
The original owner is protected in law, as are other people who assume ownership in fair circumstances. It isn't as simple absolute ownership for the original owner only. I thought as you until I came into these issues as a serving police officer. It would be for a civil court to decide. There may be a long chain of owners as in say an old P bass that is discovered to have been stolen say 45 years ago. It doesn't naturally follow that the person it was stolen from can take it back if it was purchased at a fair price in good faith, possibly many times over.
I honestly think your giving out false info, try buying a car in good faith that's got finance outstanding on it, even after a few owners it belongs to the finance company and always did, its for that reason that the v5 for a car says "not proof of ownership" just registered keeper, it's the receipt that proves ownership. The civil case would be between you and the person you bought it off, them and who they got it from etc etc, you have no legal rights to it at all, the insurance company might offer you the car at a reasonable price after carrying out a valuation but they don't have to. http://www.hastingsandco.co.uk/litigation/2014/01/31/stolen-goods/ https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/somethings-gone-wrong-with-a-purchase/if-you-think-youve-bought-stolen-goods/
 16.
Following. As much as people say check CC and the like I've never really heard of folks finding their gear at one. So will be interested to see what happens now.
There been a few cases just on this site, the last time the store knew full well that the person selling the stuff was a criminal.
 17. Cake and musicman what's not to like! Happy birthday, I'm not far behind you
 18.
I find it annoying you can't leave it plugged in , I like leaving a bass set up in my office
It doesn't take long to plug the Jack back in really does it?
 19.
No stamina, no technique, lousy intonation etc etc.
Have you been to my gigs?
 20. I've seen so many bands with these specific bass tones trying to explain to the sound crew that it must be micd not di, at a push blended, rarely does that perfect tone work out front, as various pedals are bought in and out the bass goes from inaudible to overpowering and the poor sound guy is faced with trying to second guess what's happening, how does he (I'm saying he as I've never met a lady sound engineer!) know that you bring in the sub octave and phazer in the second verse for 4 bars? A couple of patches can work but rarely is there time to level 25 patches, especially if it's operator won't budge on reducing the level on a patch because that's set for his amp regardless of it ruining the mix out front.
 21. I did try to explain to Alex once after some claim about making a light weight version of an ampeg fridge but at the same time fixing all it's issues that people enjoy the issues,it's human nature, if we didn't have that inside us then the experts could just make a bass, amp and cab that is 'the best'.
 22.
Heeheehee. Nice to see we agree on some things then Pete. I'd like to see their show live, if not actually attend one.
Ha! I shall look into them more when I get time.
 23. Yes I thought they were great!
 24.
They're hiring a self-employed music teacher. This is the whole point of portability of the DBS check, and the update service. Again, a quote: The DBS Update Service lets you keep your DBS certificates up to date online and allows employers to check a certificate status at any time. This system means that whenever you start work with a new employer or contractor, rather than applying for a brand new DBS Certificate, the employer can go to the DBS website to confirm if anything has changed on your record since your last certificate.
The start of that section on the site clarifies again that you are only allowed a basic check as a self employed person which as you say isn't good enough.
 25. https://www.ucheck.co.uk/dbs-checks-for-the-self-employed/ I suppose this sums up what you are saying ambient, the school are taking the word of the MU on it, as long as the school have ticked the box and saved money on doing the check themselves they are happy to go down that route.
