Buying (then selling on) for profit?
stingrayPete1977 replied to Fionn's topic in General Discussion
I've never felt the need to declare what I'm going to do with something, it's advertised as £x s, I offer a price or even the full asking price and they either take it or leave it, if there's a load of money to be made and a queue of buyers waiting so this huge profit can be made then they must have offered too cheap or I was the only person in the world to see the advert. -
On double bass most people learn using a 'method' which helps create a repeatable fingering pattern and movement around the fingerboard, I doubt many fretless elec bassists start with an equivalent which leaves them wanting for the lines?

1x cab at 4ohm *vs* 2x cabs at 8ohm - worth it?
stingrayPete1977 replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
If you are thinking about another 4 ohm 210 I'd also get a second amp, (you're using an LM3 I believe) and daisy chain both amps using the send/return. You can run each as a linked 4 ohm systems.
There's a member here that plays some serious gigs using that setup, it's basically a 4x12 stack but with the top two as the Markbass combos and the bottom two as the matching ext speakers, he can cover anything from a little pub with a single combo right upto a symphony hall using all four, and he has done! -
Buying (then selling on) for profit?
stingrayPete1977 replied to Fionn's topic in General Discussion
Is it even the same person selling it, could have been traded already? Could they have done a trade with that shop? Is it anyone else's business? -
That's a 55-94 rather than a 55-76, as such, much less rare! You'd be better off keeping your eye on this perhaps: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272625668289 Si
Your eyes are better than mine, I can see the neck pickup now!

If I see a Morris dance troupe coming towards me....
stingrayPete1977 replied to Biglump's topic in General Discussion
Morris dancing is one of those activities that from a cultural point of view I am glad someone keeps it alive, but with the proviso that I do not have to be involved in any way shape or form, including watching, listening or partaking.
I find it odd that I totally understand and agree with you -
Pretty rare bass though, great colour too. I can't see the saddles being an issue new strings and a proper setup should sort it I'd say, the nut and frets are in the right place so it can't be an issue.
I wrote a guide many moons ago that spells it out so even the most anti DIY guy knows what to do - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/70420-schaller-strap-locks-and-how-to-fit-them-properly/
That's a great guide Russ but I've just written a new guide to get over all those issues, no extra tools to buy, no leather work skills, no drilling your bass or cocktail sticks; Fit Dunlops!
I've never had a nut come off in 20 years of using them (only 5 years of using threadlock) the rotational movement is the cup around the button, the nut is there to lock the strap against the body of the lock (with a washer as per good design practice), there ate 3 little pins on the body of the lock to stop rotation. i believe that Cleco fasteners are for temporarily holding sheet material in position prior to fastening with rivets (that's certainly the only time i've seen them used.) Matt
The same fastners are used on any covers that need to be removed for inspection.
i'm a schaller fanboy, you do need to enlarge the hole in the strap to get a nice flat fit, i use a dab of threadlock on the threads to keep the nut in place, i didn't used to bother and never had an issue with any of my straps but i keep a bottle of threadlock on my bench now so use it as a belt and braces insurance. i had a good look at the designs of the different straplock designs before i bought them and the schaller design makes more sense in my head, i never trusted the dunlop design with the internal locking method, all of my engineering schooling gives me no confidence in the dunlop design, the idea of the wweight and the locking device on the pin inside of the button seems wrong, a bit of wear and i'd be afraid of it letting go mid-gig whilst the schaller design has the "cup" of the straplock to take the weight and the pin as a locking device. Matt
You'd probably best not look into aircraft construction next time you fly if you dislike the idea of Cleco style fixings. That 'cup' you prefer is a chocolate fire guard once the nut comes off the strap!

Anyone that designs something with rotational movement using a nut to secure it needs a slap

Bass up quite high, I used to go full but I'm more like 3/4 now then use the treble pot like a tone pot, juicy.

Yes those do look really nice, good find!

In this day and age "In stock" does not necessarily mean it is actually in the store, many shops will post the item out either direct from their supplier or have a warehouse possibly miles away and possibly not open at weekends, I know this first hand regarding Fairdeal music 15 years ago as I did some work in the warehouse, it was open 8-5 mon to friday.

I think Thundercat has some good tunes there, if, you changed the drummer and I re wrote all the basslines without the bloody twoddle!
It's really strange, I've offered bassists the use of my bass, but they've always looked worried and said no politely. Guitarists often go quiet too. Rang three times, no answer, drove 140 miles anyway, seems sensible.

The 3EQ is more versatile for live stuff where getting a useable sound is more important but the two EQ is where that killer stingray tone is at!
Anyone ever had a stingray go silent at a gig ? 2 Eqs enough for me , can't see what else id need to do to the sound
I've had one totally dead at sound check and I've swapped to the spare between songs after hearing the tone going off as the battery was getting low.

Slab body Birdseye neck Strung thru body String mutes 2 EQ 6 bolt neck Wheel of fortune truss adjuster What's not to like?
Why not take your battery out and try it?
Yes, you can make sure the screwdriver to keep in the kit bag fits then too It still won't work though.

If you get all the hook bits in there your average wedding or party audience will be up dancing, they can fill in the gaps with their air guitars!

Fender announcement. No more rosewood 'boards.
stingrayPete1977 replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
I'd make it illegal to have burst and tort "without" RW! -
Nope-silence! Being a ClassicRay it's worth keeping a screwdriver and a battery (obviously) to hand. Cracking basses though, I think we need a pic?
Seems I'm alone in not enjoying playing in trios. No matter how accomplished/inventive the players, the limited tonal palette limits the ability to create arrangements and harmonic texture too much for my taste.
Most of my favourite bands are essentially trios or only have three players as such, RCHP, Nirvana, Queen, RATM and many more no doubt.
