1. Well I'm not sure about violin corners and you don't have them on it
2.
remember the Stingray pickup does not have 4 wires coming out of it. You can stil 'tap' each coil, and while not being exactly as delicate as brain surgery, there is the possibility of screwing up a great pickup, and you won't buy a replacement easily. Hence... the Stingray remains untouched. Just in case. But it has a 3-band MMSR preamp. The SUB is good 'as is' with the original 2-band preamp. It's not like the Stingray sounds bad, just that the SUB sounds better.
Well everyone wants to tell me that the SUB is EXACTLY the same regarding the electronics, if you can get to the connections on a SUB but not on a Ray then they must be different after all?
3. How much would a push/pull series pot cost, a fiver?
4. That's like saying the chequer plate pick guard sounds better than a normal one
5. So if you're going to join a band with mates you already know or gigs are within walking distance, practice is reachable by bus or you're willing to shell out loads on taxis to get to the gigs not being able to drive won't be an issue. A taxi to my nearest gigs and back would all cost me more than the money I'd get from the gig so it would be pay to play on every gig, couple that with most gigs being Friday or Saturday night and it would cost double to get home and even getting one would be tricky.
6. It goes on in all jobs, I've rarely worked for a building surveyor that could build a Wendy house if their life depended on it, they always employ rough builders as they don't want anyone that can do their job better than them , school-college-university-building site telling builders how to build stuff!
7. You can go around the houses all you like regarding where people live, how friendly your band mates are, who can't drive for medical reasons vs laziness but if the question is "will not being able to drive cause me a problem auditioning for function bands?" Then the answer is yes. What are the chances of finding a band that want a bass player that needs collecting and dropping home, maybe one that is happy to store all your gear between gigs, collect you for rehearsals etc etc? I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm not saying my band wouldn't collect me if I couldn't drive or my van was broken but they are few and far between and the chances of it not turning sour if gigging regularly would be slim.
8.
Impulse buy and I seem to have got a new EBMM Sterling! Happy with it though and a very reasonable 8.5lbs which makes it my lightest bass, just a little less than my Classic 50's P.
Ace
9. I think these SBMM ones are great basses but they aren't cheap, I know which would be a safe place to invest £800 given the choice of a new SBMM or a used EBMM that's all.
10.
Nope!
11. When I tried an SBMM I thought it was nice but the tuners don't feel as nice to use and the electronics feel different as the pots are cheap nasty ones compared to the proper weighted smooth ones on a US version. The edges of the body were well finished but didn't have that nice rounded hand finished edge that a US one has. I don't think I could justify paying the same or more for a sbmm as a used EBMM. As for the finish of a US sub matching a US Ray? Erm nope I'm not having that, nasty stamped pick guard, stippled Matt paint and that nasty black gloop on the neck! Perfectly good bass but my old teal and maple ray was in another league finish wise. What you really want is a used Classic Ray, now we're talking awesome quality
12.
All cool in their own way, but I have the delight of driving home with my other half, another well-known Basschatter, who is there for every gig. It makes for a lively conversation all the way back.
TimR?
13. The cynics are cynical for a reason
14. It's just another hurdle a band doesn't need unless it can work out well, in a previous band the drummer and guitarist were neighbours so they took it in turns but even then life gets in the way where they would both drive to practice as one needed to drop his son at football on the way or whatever. I know a few people that declare themselves as eco friendly because they don't have car and cycle everywhere, unless they want a free lift to the supermarket, the tip, a gig, the garden centre, the airport.......
15. I'm waiting for TimR to arrive to tell us something about hedge funds and corporate blah blah again. Arse and shove it up your spring to mind
16. My Polytune can eat a battery in no time, I've saved a fortune using a psu.
17.
Fender 7350's on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.u...Dm16mh5FAGmJNPw £13.65 a set.
All four basses are 5 string.
18. I've never given it much thought tbh,as long as they fit they should be ok.
