1. What gets me with these threads where people declare the need for their sound etc is that chances are if the sound coming back from decent monitoring isn't good enough then the FOH probably isn't sounding how they want either, there can't be many (any?) bass amps out there with the capabilities of an aux out from a digital mixer, I'd put an RCF wedge and an xair mixer against any amp for monitoring with my money on the mixer being the best option.
2. Once used it's used anyway, as long as it's the updated 2012 onwards version it's resale wouldn't be any different for 2013,14,15 etc imo.
3. I just can't get on with passive basses, I don't think they suit my amps tbh. I was happy with everything else on the bass, it's great now.
4.
If I might suggest a Fender American Standard Jazz V http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1
Not active though, but a preamp makes them stonking, I use my 2013 alongside a £2300 Musicman happily at most gigs
5. The silver Lakland Jazz in guitar guitar brum has been there for years.
6.
Does this bother you? If so I would ask for an actual new bass. As fair enough old stock etc but 2012 is a bit too much imo. I mean it could also effect its value if you chose to sell it on also.
It could increase it! 2012 is seen as a good year these days, I'd keep it if it's nice.
7. Would those vintage amps still have 1/4 jacks if Speakons had existed?
8. You lot are a barrel of laughs aren't you?
9. If you know from previous experience that the bass you have has everything you want other than a few bits from a version previously owned sometimes you can know the 'upgrade' will work, putting those musicman humbuckers into parallel will work, 41 years of awesome hit records is good evidence Resale values? Life's too short for that.
10. Without the active preamp my Jazz just wouldn't work for me, bit of tinkering and it's at every gig, the massive devaluing also adds to the reasons to keep it too My 2004 Ray 5 was fretless and now isn't, my classicRay5 has an east circuit. The only one standard is the 2010 AIlnico Ray5 I bought new,I'll keep that as is.
11. Phono jack says one of two things, big old fashioned lump (see v type in thread), or practice amp.
12. I think I would too
13. Time for this thread again already? Ampband is the answer.
14.
NO mines a 2006 model which is all wired in Series! EB changed it to parallel in 2008,when they introduced the Sterling 5, so musicman must have thought it needed tinkering with 😉😁 it was to differentiate the two models I think! It sounds great, but I want the parallel setting as well.
Everyday is a school day! How many switch positions does it have? I'm sure it could be put 'right' easily enough.
15.
Cheers Mcnach! I'm actually going to get a pro to do it! I have an old Ray 5HH which is series wired (as per the Sterling) it sounds fantastic and really punches through a band mix, however I miss the parallel setting I had on my old sterling and want that option too.i wouldn't try and do something like that myself 😁 I'm also thinking of adding the East MM 3 band at the same time.
Isn't the fully rewards position H parallel? Or has it been tinkered with.
16. And snorted just as much coke as these frustrated guitarists ever did too, good lad
17. Bit of gouging and soldering a push pull pot in and you can have a series parallel version of either then, I already have on mine as I'm a grown up with five strings and that function is standard P.S I never saw a sign about the grass and I forgot to bring any poo bags!
18. Well I'm not sure about violin corners and you don't have them on it
19.
remember the Stingray pickup does not have 4 wires coming out of it. You can stil 'tap' each coil, and while not being exactly as delicate as brain surgery, there is the possibility of screwing up a great pickup, and you won't buy a replacement easily. Hence... the Stingray remains untouched. Just in case. But it has a 3-band MMSR preamp. The SUB is good 'as is' with the original 2-band preamp. It's not like the Stingray sounds bad, just that the SUB sounds better.
Well everyone wants to tell me that the SUB is EXACTLY the same regarding the electronics, if you can get to the connections on a SUB but not on a Ray then they must be different after all?
20. How much would a push/pull series pot cost, a fiver?
21. That's like saying the chequer plate pick guard sounds better than a normal one
22. So if you're going to join a band with mates you already know or gigs are within walking distance, practice is reachable by bus or you're willing to shell out loads on taxis to get to the gigs not being able to drive won't be an issue. A taxi to my nearest gigs and back would all cost me more than the money I'd get from the gig so it would be pay to play on every gig, couple that with most gigs being Friday or Saturday night and it would cost double to get home and even getting one would be tricky.
23. It goes on in all jobs, I've rarely worked for a building surveyor that could build a Wendy house if their life depended on it, they always employ rough builders as they don't want anyone that can do their job better than them , school-college-university-building site telling builders how to build stuff!
