I've just sniped a set of Ernie ball .130s on eBay for £16! The seller just drip feeds them onto there, probably stolen! -

Spoilt for choice now then! I'll get a set of each and see which I prefer, they all feel rough compared to my double bass strings anyway -

All strings look to have gone up in price since I last swapped them! -
I tried them on my Warwick. Sounded nice, bright but I like that. They felt a bit too rough for my liking. Not bad for the price but I wouldn't buy them again.
Have you found anything in the middle worth trying? -
I didn't like them at all personally. To be fair though I love Rotosounds so the Red Labels will probably be ideal for you .
You can have all my old ones then, they sound like 2 day old Rotos -

Sounds promising then, thanks guys I'll get a set and try them out, I used Elites for years too Roger. I'm not mega fussy, I'd rather have zingy that I can cut than dead within a week. All my basses are active (even my Double bass ) the strings are probably a year old or more on all of them, probably been boosting the treble to get longer out of them -

That's good to know thanks! -
I need to restring 4 five string basses, I'm not overly fussy with strings so I'm looking for alternatives to my usual EB ones at around £30 a packet. £13.60 for the .130s I like they look worth a try, if they are ok I'll bulk buy a few sets. Anyone tried them or got any other suggestions? (not Rotos, I can't stand them!). Ta

I've mentioned this before and it upset some owners but most musicman basses come with a factory shim made of plastic, at the same time I've never heard of one having the ski jump neck issue, then they do have six bolts spread across a larger area than fenders.

I was expecting a GB Spitfire with a tort guard! Looks nice though. -
Sought after basses of the future?
No doubt about it !!! Vigier basses and guitars !!! Also Grand Master basses !!! http://www.grandmasterguitars.com And I am not biased at all. But also the usual names that have got away with selling sh*te for decades so I suppose the sheep will always pay more for these basses.
They all look rank to me, I'll stick with my sheep bass thanks -
Hmm, probably Fender and Gibson custom shop models if nothing else. In about ten years I would suspect that 1980s Fenders will become sought after even though they not highly thought of at the moment. As said above as well, any original bass made by a 'boutique' luthier before they retire: Fodera, Sadowsky, Ritter, Carl Thompson, Mike Lull etc.
It would be interesting to see what the uptake of the bass guitar figures have looked like over the past forty years, I'd be amazed if they aren't falling, the supply and demand for high end boutique basses will surely not pan out well, even on a forum like this today they'll be people who have no idea what most of the basses you mention are, imagine that projected forward. The only way a Lull jazz will be worth more than they are now will be when a new Fender Jazz costs over £4k with inflation imo. -
Sought after basses of the future?
stingrayPete1977 replied to Number6's topic in General Discussion
I can't imagine the youth of today fighting over anything particularly interesting bass wise, high prices tend to be driven mainly by nostalgia, those who really wanted a Rickenbacker in the 70s are now in a position to buy one for example, working on that logic eBay will be full of listings for old iPhones and such things. I'd imagine the safer money would be on main stream instruments rather than anything special, the kids into proper bands now and in the future are going to be the slightly retro loving ones I'd say, if I was looking to invest it would be a 66 jazz or a 50s P bass rather than something like one of BRX's Gus basses regardless of the playability, I wouldn't use an old Fender anyway as they all have a string missing -

Advice on amplifying an acoustic bass guitar please.

I've given up with mine, it never leaves the house and I've fitted a mag pickup to my double bass -
Facebook is not a place for people who take themselves or life too seriously. It will drive them mad. My weekly bin update gets a huge number of likes and comments. Some people get it and some don't. I don't think people should slam it as a terrible thing just because they don't partake in it. I moderate a huge social group, I don't want to be close friends with 540 people as I only see some of them occasionally but I do need to exchange information and ideas with all of them on a regular basis. Some of those 540 people don't get Facebook either and are constantly complaining about the background noise. It's like going to a pub and complaining that someone at the table next to you is talking about Eastenders but you're talking about Football.
You lost me at bin update? Photos of stuff in your bin?

They are all red hot on information sharing these days too.
Interesting. I've never been there, though have driven past a few times. What's the parking like?
It used to be four spaces out the front, three of which blocked the only disabled bay and access to the hotel next door, ah clever developers. Mind PMT isn't much better.

I un friended and unliked everything on mine so it wouldn't have anything other than friend requests if they did ever reactivate it, I did the full delete on mine where you have to not log on for two weeks.

That's his image done for.

Fingers crossed, looks well clamped up, patience required, no peeking!

80's brands that tried to kill your bass playing.
stingrayPete1977 replied to julesb's topic in General Discussion
I started on an Avon SG copy bass, awful tone, played terribly, terrible neck dive, susceptible head stock joint, horrid neck profile, body was too heavy but still had the neck dive, no where for a strap to attach properly and topped of with a thick red globby varnish, it was just like a real one! -

White Hart pub in Cannock 1999 (the band was formed in 1989! Lol), a Sunday evening for a crate of Becks I think. Bass Collection SB320 Peavey Foundation as a spare. Peavey TNT 120 AMP I can't recall the pa but I think it was a borrowed Peavey, probably 200 watt at most wit just tops for vocals. Gretsch drumkit that's still busy with the drummers covers band. Epiphone Les Paul and a Marshall 80/80 amp. No lights and one mic I think. Ace fun!
