1. I haven't seen any rack ears for these yet. I'm not sure if it's a future development though. I did see someone the other day who had one on a rack tray, which was pretty nifty. He'd mounted it with velcro on the tray.
2. I bought the exact same model from David (Eubassix) a while ago and apart from changing the pickguard to a tortoise shell one, mine is identical to this. For the money you couldn't buy a better playing or sounding fretless. Come to think of it, I don't think you could buy a better fretless full stop! Have a bump and congratulations to the new owner, whoever that may be
3. The offer still stands to come and try out my Tonehammer http://basschat.co.uk/topic/221654-for-sale-aguilar-tone-hammer-500-1-week-old-l565-inc-pp/page__p__2268376#entry2268376
4.
Likewise. Played through it at last night's gig and really struggled to hear myself. Just couldn't seem to find a tone that was pleasing and audible. Never had that problem with my BF Vintage or Compact. The GB cab is also a heck of a lot heavier and much more awkward to move about. Shame, because I really like the look of it. It is a very solid looking and feeling cab, and a model that I had wanted to try for a long time. Now we have the awkward question of what it is worth if I decide to sell it!!? Is it fair to charge what the cabs are worth when everyone knows what you paid for them? Does the BC karma machine demand that you charge £379 so that the community can benefit from the GAK super-prices? Bit of a dilemma that one...
I bought a GB NXT212 about a year ago and gigged with it twice as I couldn't hear anything. I has to turn the mids and treble up significantly on the amp just to help me hear what was going on. I'm sure the huge front porting doesn't help massively with the sounds. I recently moved to a Bergantino CN212 and the sound difference is remarkable. I'm using the same head as before (GB Shuttlemax 12) but it just works for me. That said, I know a fair few players using the GB NXT212 who absolutely adore it.
5. Yup http://basschat.co.uk/topic/222240-gumtree-stingray-5-in-guildford/page__p__2275843#entry2275843
6. Scam unfortunately. Living near Guildford I thought I'd email them. Unfortunately (surprise surprise) they're away from home and the bass is with them. If however you want to pay by Payzone, they'll deliver the Bass etc etc.....
7. Everything always sounds so different from out front, so I wouldn't beat yourself up too much. You're not comparing apples with apples. Standing (if you're lucky) 2 feet away from your cab won't really give you the best idea of how you really sound
8. I really liked it. Powerful, deep, very light but just prefer the head I've been using for ages. Maybe it's a comfort blanket thing How's the cab?
9.
I fear we might be in for a spate of threads saying: 'It's arrived! Here's a photo of it in my living room."
Or For Sale threads as per the Sue Ryder Bass aftermath a few years back.....
10.
Genz Benz shuttle 9.2 plus some cash your way. Add to the genz family
Thanks for the kind offer but one is enough for me
11.
Like buses, i've been wanting an Aggie TH500 head to appear on here for about 3 months, bought a Little Mark Tube 500 last week and now there's been 3 of them this week! My timing! Good luck with the sale buddy.
Thanks for the bump I just prefer the overall sound of my old Genz Benz. Perhaps I'm just more used to it
12. For sale is a week old Aguilar Tonehammer 500 amp that I bought last week. Unfortunately (as is often the way with me) I prefer the head I am currently using. I won't need reminding by the wider BC community what a cock I am Unfortunately due to lack of room and travel purposes when I bought it, there's no box but it comes with all the paperwork and is still under full warranty etc which hasn't yet been registered. I'm also willing to handle any direct communication with the retailer if in the extremely unlikely every anything goes wrong with the amp. Alternatively I can forward on to you the receipt. If I still had the box it would return it to the shop, but you live and learn I guess This is a saving of at least £79 on a new one from a shop and is in absolutely mint condition. Yours for £550 inc delivery (fully insured and tracked) These are super little amps. Here's the spec from the Aguilar website: http://www.aguilaramp.com/products_amplifiers_TH500.htm The only px I'd consider now is for an EBS Microbass II plus cash my way
13. These are great basses and Al is a great guy to deal with Have a bump on me
14. Thanks for all your help. And a big thanks to Pete for his kind offer. I've got some fine wire wool so I will try that and the kettle method too. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers Nick
15. They're not actually too deep; just enough to make them noticeable. The back of the neck is a little bit sticky too and despite cleaning it, it's difficult to remove the stickiness. I think I might go over it with wire wool as suggested to make it feel a bit more satin and see if that helps at all
16. A while back I got hold of a used Fender US Jazz bass fitted with Wizard 64 pickups. It wasn't in the best of condition (nothing serious, just a few knocks) but it is simply the best sounding Jazz I've ever played. The only thing that's annoying me are a few dings on the back of the neck. Again, nothing major and nothing that seems to be through the lacquer, but they're putting me off a bit and are noticeable when I play. It's a 2000 US Jazz, so doesn't have the sarin feel of the new Standard US Fenders which incidentally I love so my question is, what is the best way of removing the dings and unevenness of the back of the neck? Please bear in mind that I am pretty hamfisted and certainly nowhere near capable of doing anything intricate! Thanks for your help
17.
According to the video the Peavey T-40 has a reputation for being over-weight and under rated. Does that sound familiar guys? Bump for a top bass...
I must say, it's the first time that I can recall playing one of these. When I was a kid, the bass that was top of my list was a white Aria unlined Fretless they had in one of the guitar shops in Watford. Ugly old Fenders or Rickenbackers didn't come in to it. Certainly not Peaveys I was filled with dread when I first saw it as I'd heard the stories about how much they can weigh. I was really pleasantly surprised
18.
The video below to explains exactly what a T-40 is capable of tonally, and even goes some way into explaining how it does it. I honestly believe that if it said anything other than Peavey on the headstock these basses would fetch a fortune. Good luck with the sale
Wow! Great video and thanks so much for posting Sadly, that's the problem for me. I'm used to 1 or maximum 2 tone knobs on a bass, so I'd spend my whole time dicking about if I had more! You're right about quality too. It's built like a tank but fortunately this one doesn't weigh quite as much
19.
Always tickled my fancy, these. Never played one, but they do look the b******* for the money. I heard amongst other things it can do a decent Ric impression, if one were so inclined?
Honestly Kev the array of sounds available is incredible. I've only played it for a very short while so haven't even started to see what it's capable of!
20. For sale is a 1980 Polar White Peavey T40 that I received in a trade recently. It's a lovely bass with a whole host of sounds available and in generally very good condition for its age. Apparently Polar White is quite a rare finish for this particular year and the weight is an even more pleasant surprise as it comes in at 9lbs 4oz according to my wife's digital kitchen scales. There are signs of wear and I've tried to picture these where possible. The body has a few chips (the neck does too) and the pickguard is warped which I understand is a common issue on these basses. The pickup tops are a bit worn, but again from what I understand, this is common too. The frets are a bit grubby, but I'm sure there's a fair amount of play in them still. Electrics and all hardware appear to be original, as is the Peavey case. It's grubby and the latches are a bit rusted but it's fully functional and I can't see any structural damage. I haven't had the need to set this up much, but it has just been restrung with DR Sunbeams and the action is medium low. I've bought the right sized trussrod tool from Stewmac's but not had any reason to use it yet. The trussrod seems to be fine but as mentioned, I've not really done anything with it other than clean the bass up and put some strings on it. All in all, it's a lovely bass and sounds wonderful. In all honesty, there are too many tonal options for me and it won't get the use it deserves I'm not looking for trades thanks Yours for £415. 21.
I agree. I've dealt with John; he's a nice guy and I don't think he deserves this sort of sniping.
Completely agree. John is a great guy and a pleasure to deal with. Any chance the thread can be locked? A long-standing member deserves better
