1. For sale is a Body Glove Hybrid Gig Bag for a Bass. It's very similar in style and construction to the Mono or Protec style gigbags in that it is basically a soft shell gigbag with shoulder straps but with a dual sided ABS plastic shell inside it. As a result, the bass is much better protected than in standard padded gigbags. Dual-sided high density ABS plastic shell inside the case Water resistant, luggage grade nylon exterior Extra thick shoulder strap Multiple storage pockets with mesh sub pockets Double stitched seams and reinforced zippers Moisture wicking technology 4-point backpack with lumbar support Interior guitar head and bridge thrash guards I'm looking for £30 plus £7.50 p&p
2. I've just got one of these. It's completely rock solid very well made. As you say though, it needs to be placed a way back from the wall due to the angle of the headstock when the bass is in the stand. If you can live with that though,I don't think you'd find a better stand without breaking the bank. http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GS525B.html
3. I'm selling a white/cream pearloid pickguard (official Ernie Ball) for a Musicman Stingray HH. It's i super condition and would cost £59.95 new. Yours for £30 inc p&p Here's a couple of pictures
4. The first iteration were. They then moved to 4 bolt and then finally to 6 bolt necks
5. The neck isn't super-slim. It's certainly slimmer than current Stingrays though. Pete bought it from a vintage guitar dealer who I believe imported this one from the States. I could be wrong though
6.
Lovely looking thing! What sort of thing do you have in mind for a trade? I have a 5 string GMR http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/GMR_J_5.html
Not looking for trades thanks, apart from the fretless Ray plus cash I mentioned
7. Is this a good time to mention that I'd consider a p/x for a Fretless Ray to £800?
8. I recently picked this up in a trade with Stingraypete1977, who incidentally is one of the nicest, most genuine people I've had the pleasure of meeting on the Forum. Unfortunately, it's not quite right for me so I'm moving it on. This is a 1982 pre-Ernie Ball Stingray in remarkable condition considering it's 31 years old. It has clearly been cherished over that time and comes with a Musicman Case of the same era (a few tears in the tolex but in perfect structural condition). The bass is 100% original and the original straplocks have been fitted back on to it. It also weighs in at 9lbs, so is a gorgeous weight too. The only thing to mention is that the foam mutes have been replaced as there was one missing originally (the 3 remaining ones are included in the sale though!) The only real marks of note that I can see are a scratch on the scratchplate and a chip on the back of the neck which doesn't affect playability in any way. The neck profile is a fair bit thinner than a modern Stingray, so is super comfortable and playable. Unfortunately Pete isn't in a position to take this back due to an ongoing hand injury, so I'm offering it up on the forum. I would rather this bass was picked up or would be willing to meet half-way as I'd really not want to post such a beautiful instrument. I am looking for £1,625 for this. I've uploaded as many pics as I can, but more are available. Just had this set up decently (a really nice medium action with a new set of TI flats by Gavin at Andertons. I'd be interested in an unlined Fretless Stingray 4 up to £800 plus cash my way or a new series US Fender Jazz Fretless up to £650 in value plus cash my way. I'd also consider a new series Fender American Jazz (rosewood board) up to £700, or a 62 Reissue Jazz up to £850 with the rest in cash way. I'd possibly consider trades with a decent lightweight 70's Fender Jazz too or a Status S2 Thanks for looking
9.
I'm seriously dissappointed , too . I was expecting this one to run for weeks or even months , eventually climaxing with a homemade video documenting the sad farewell to the pre -EB 'Ray with Elton John singing Candle In The Wind in the background . A carpark seems so ...sworded . What you have done today bass trading equivalent to dogging !
As one of the guilty parties I can honestly say it was a pleasurable experience whatever word you use to describe it And what's more, no cameras were involved (well certainly none that I'm aware of!)
10. I had the pleasure of meeting Pete today to swap my Stingray Classic 5 for his pre-Ernie Ball Stingray ian totally hassle-free deal. We spent some time chatting and it's a shame it wasn't a bit warmer and drier! A thoroughly nice guy and as honest as the day is long. Thanks Pete
11. The original winner has flipped it straight on. Check out the feedback number of the original winner and the new seller
12.
No close it again!!!!!
13. Thanks Ian. I keep wavering between keeping this one and letting it go. I think if there's any doubt in my mind, then I need to let it go (if only it wasn't 5 strings!) I'm really looking for trades on this one and top of the list is a Stingray Classic 4 string as a direct trade. Would definitely consider a fretless stingray 4 plus cash my way or a Ric 4003 too. I'm going to hold out on other trade offers for one of the basses I've listed. So, I'm giving away an extra string for free
14. You're more than welcome to try my Stingray classic 5 string. I'm not sure I will ever be able to manage with 5's but it really has massively increased my appreciation of 2eq Stingrays
15. I just took delivery of a cover for my a Schroeder 21012 and decided t go with the optional 4mm foam padding. It's a lot more substantial than the standard Roqsolid cover and certainly a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. The best cover I had though was a complete zip around cover from Silverstone. The quality was superb but unfortunately it took an age to arrive and from what I understand, I was lucky to receive a cover at all based on other people's experiences with them.
16.
I have something that would suit you Nick but I'm resisting....I've been down the 5 route 4 times and it's never worked out for me. All the same have a bump mate for a particularly fine looking MM
You're such a tease Mart Seriously, if you get a chance to play one of these I think you'll be astounded just how easy they play.
17. Alain bought 2 stands from me in a totally smooth deal. Highly recommended. Thanks Alain:)
18. For sale is a recently acquired Stingray Classic 5 String. This is with a very heavy heart indeed but needs must I've just landed a couple of new gigs that don't require a 5 string bass (of which I am desperately struggling due to an old war wound) so it's last in first out sadly. This is a spotless May 2010 MM Classic Series in Tobacco Burst and the most comfortable beautiful honey-coloured lacquered birdseye maple neck. The 2eq electrics are wonderful and I can easily see why people prefer this set up to the 3eq system. It's just been strung with a set of D'Addario 40-125 Nickels. It has been set up with a lovely low action The MM Case is also included and is in great working order with a few minor scuffs but is in decent condition. Weight-wise the bass is a tiny bit over 10lbs at a guess, but you wouldn't notice it as it balances superbly. This is the best Musicman I have owned and these Classic Series instruments are something special. They sound wonderful too. I am looking for £1,300 for it or would consider trades for a mint condition recent Rickenbacker 4003 or 4001V63. I'd also consider a Musicman Classic Series 4 string Stingray or an unlined fretless Ray worth up to £750 plus cash my way. Please don't offer anything else as I am quite specific on what I want Thanks for looking
19. Dave very kindly re-fitted the original preamp in to my Stingray Classic 5 String as a favour. He's a lovely guy and very kind indeed. I'm now working on him to let me have a go in his Digger....
20. For sale are a couple of sets of 5 string bass strings: D'Addario EXL170's Gauge 45-130. Virtually new but put on and cut for a Stingray 5 String- £15 inc p&p Status Hotwire Flatwounds 40-125. Put on my Status S2 for 5 minutes (cut but would fit a similar shaped headstock) in as-new condition but I actually prefer my Fodera roundwounds!)-£18 inc p&p I am also selling a nice chocolate brown embossed leather strap (apparently with a dog pattern on it but I can't make it out!) in great condition and I would say goes up to 50" long- £15 inc p&p
21. For sale is a recently acquired John East MMSR 3 band preamp. It's a replacement for the 2 band eq Stingray preamp but Asti has stacked pots, it allows for a mid/mid sweep control. It comes with chrome pots but doesn't include the control plate. It's in super condition and comes with all the installation instructions and original packaging. I'm looking for £125 inc p&p Here's the technical spec: BTB MMSR 3 Knob V/B/T/MSw Using 3 Pots & Jack The BTB-MMSR 3 Knob, including Mid Sweep, has been designed with characteristics very similar to the original MM Stingray© 2 Band EQ, but is not a copy of the original circuit. The original used a single op-amp chip (single amplifier stage in the form of a chip) for both bass and treble circuits, whereas this unit utilises a more modern dual op-amp chip (two amplifiers stages in a chip). The bass and treble are stacked which allows inclusion of a mid sweep, along with original MM style bass and treble on a 3 knob plate. When the mid boost/cut is centred, its effect is neutral and the EQ is purely late 70s MM style. This unit is supplied fully wired, including 1 single pot, 2 stacked pots, knobs, jack and battery clip, which may be spliced into an existing battery box, as would be available, in most cases. · Single Knob - VOLUME · Stack Knob - Late 70s MM style BASS / TREBLE / Pull for BRIGHT (Bright is similar to Sabre&copy bright toggle, but has a little more boost) · Stack Knob - MID / MID FREQUENCY SWEEP (Mid Sweep 01 unit) POWER REQUIREMENTS: 9-18V, 2.5mA Technical Specifications Bass & Treble Controls The design of the 2 band EQ in the early Stingray© basses is unusual in that it does not follow the types of topologies around which the majority of equalisers are designed. It would seem that Leo Fender designed it to create a particular sound rather than follow any conventions, such as symmetrical EQ curves. Consequently the figures shown may appear unusual to those familiar with such specifications. In fact it's not easy to portray what this EQ does with a few numbers, but in any case some figures, based around a flat response input signal, are quoted as reference points. Please Note:Like the original Bass/Treble EQ, this circuit does not have a flat response when the controls are set midway. This unit is not designed as a clinical tool, where what goes in, comes out at some reference setting. However, the Mid Sweep circuit does have a neutral setting in order to preserve the original feel of the Bass & Treble EQ. Treble (+20dB / -16dB @ 10 kHz) The upper knob controls the treble. There is more boost than cut, giving rise the characteristic 'sizzle' associated with the Stingray© style of EQ. BRIGHT (+6dB @ 7kHz) Pull the Treble knob for the Bright setting. Bass (+14dB / -7dB @ 40Hz) The lower ring bass control has a little more boost than the original. The boost curve continues to rise towards the lower frequencies, without flattening out at any frequency within the normal bass guitar range. Conversly the cut characteristic is shelving, having an essentially flat response from 30 - 100Hz, when fully cut. Mid Level & Frequency Boost/Cut (+/-12dB) The upper knob sets the amount of Mid boost or cut at frequencies according to the setting of the Frequency knob. The midway indent is the 'flat' setting. Frequency (100Hz - 1kHz or 200Hz - 2kHz) The lower outer ring sets the continuously variable Mid frequencies for boost or cut. DIL switches on the circuit board allow low or high ranges to be set. Both switch sections should be set to ON for the Low Range and both set to OFF for the High Range. Volume Sets the level from the bass and treble section of the preamp feeding the mid section. This means that the pickup feeds the preamp directly, allowing the best possible transfer of signal, and full interraction of the pickup with the preamp. Since the mid section is after the volume control, it feeds the jack directly with a low impedance output.
