I never met Si in the flesh but we struck up a great online friendship and he was always a pleasure to talk to and a thoroughly nice bloke. My sympathies and love go out to everyone who knew him. Ironically we were due to meet up a few weeks ago when he travelled down for his uncle's funeral. Sadly, circumstances meant that we couldn't meet. God bless you Si; you are a true gent and Basschat will be a far colder place without you.
2.
These are cracking and much underrated basses. Any sound clips of it with the Labellas I was thinking of putting a set on mine
Thanks mate No sound clips I'm afraid but it does sound wonderful and really smooth
3. Played at The Mad Hatter in Surbiton last night (new venue for us). From the outside it looked like a typical "Builders on Coke" pub and some of the clientele only added to this impression. However, after sorting out the sound during the first few numbers we eneded up playing for over 3 hours in total and the crowd wanted more and more. Great gig resulting in a fistful of re-bookings for the rest of the year and 1 private 50th birthday party. Got home past 2am and had the usual ringing ears and adrenaline-filled "can't sleep" night
4.
Can I ask what's happening with the body?
Need to get a decent set up done but I was intending on keeping the body and fitrting a new model P Bass neck to it. Happy to potentially sell the bass complete though. It's the 2 tone sunburts version and is lovely
5. For sale is a Fender Mike Dirnt P Bass in fantastic condition in 2 tone sunburst. It is made in Mexico and is in wonderful condition with no obvious wear or dings. Build quality is superb and there is some nice figuring on the back of the neck. The body grain is gorgeous too. It's in full working order and no issues whatsoever and was set up and fitted with La Bella Deep Talkin Flats recently. It also comes with a brand new Ritter padded gigbag which cost me £40. It also comes with both the original and a black 51 P Bass pickguard that is currently fitted. The vintage 59 pickup sounds (as my Father In Law would say) "Hooooj". I gigged with this last night on a couple of songs and it looks, feels (thanks to the contoured upper bout) superb. It's essentially a modded 51 P Bass but all the better for the mods in my opinion. Dimensions/specs etc are here: General Model Number(s): 0138400303, 0138400306, 0138400341 Series: Artist Color(s): (303) 2-Color Sunburst (306) Black (341) Vintage White Neck Shape: Thick "C" Shape Number of Frets: 20 Fret Size: Medium Jumbo Position Inlays: White Dot Position Inlays Fingerboard Radius: 9.5" Radius (241 mm) Fretboard: Rosewood Neck Material: Maple Nut Width: 1.59" (40.4 mm) Scale Length: 34" (863.6 mm) NeckPlate: Custom 4 Bolt Neckplate Pickup Configuration: Single Split-Coil Pickup Middle Pickup: Custom Vintage '59 Split Single-Coil Pickup Controls: Master Volume, Master Tone Hardware Finish: Chrome Bridge: Leo Quan Badass® II Tuning Machines: Vintage '70s Fender® Stamped Open Gear Tuning Machines String Nut: Synthetic Bone The cheapest I can find this new in the UK (in this colour scheme) is £629. With the upgraded gigbag, 2 pickguards, La Bellas and set up, I am looking for £440 (plus £20 P&P but happy for a pickup or meet half-way).
6. I am selling the Barefaced Compact Cab I bought from our very own Davidmpires recently. Unfortunately, with my new combo and Epifani UL410 I don't have the room to keep this. It is in near-mint condition and sounds wonderful. It's ridiculously light too and a pleasure to use. Here's the link to David's original advert H|ope you don't mind David): http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=91984&hl= Looking for what I paid for it (£300) and would prefer a pick up or local meet.
7. Now on Ebay : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...T#ht_500wt_1154 Would consider trades for a Stingray or Fender Road Worn
8.
Nice one Nick .. have a bump
Thanks Si
9. BUMP- still looking for specific trades only or cash. Thanks for the offers so far
10. This has now been fitted with the new style high-mass Fender bridge which cost me £65 but is a great bit of kit. Not looking for trades unless anyone has a Fender Roadworn P Bass in Fiesta Red.
11. For sale is a Fender USA bridge (thru body and 3 screw mounting). This is off the S1 US P Bass and is in excellent condition- £20 plus £2 P&P
12. For sale is a 2005 Fender US P Bass in black/black/maple that I picked up in a trade. I have 2 of these, so one has to go. It's in excellent condition (apart from a small ding near the pickguard edge) and some light scratches on the back (not through the paintwork). The original S1 switch has been replaced with CTS pots and a Wizard Thumper (original electrics will be included too). It sounds amazing! Complete with fully functional, good condition Fender shaped case and the candy. It's also currently strung with D'Addario Flats and is possibly one of the lightest P Basses I have ever played (close to 8.5lbs). The pickguard is a bit scratched and I've had to file the pickup hole to fit the Wizard but it's purely cosmetic and a replacement pickup should be easy to fit if desired. The neck is perfect and the frets are in fantastic condition. I've put this on Ebay for a bit more, but am willing to let it go for £610 plus P&P (or meet up) on Basschat.
13. I bought Jo's Epifani UL410 off him several weeks ago. a great guy and a fantastic piece of kit. Highly recommended
14. Is this the same Nostromo (Clint) I met in a dodgy carpark near Heathrow Airport about 18 months ago to sell my Epifani UL310? Cheers Nick
15. Hi mate Knowing the story behind the bass and having played it, I would say go for it. If it doesn't work out you've not done anything to it that can be undone. Given the way it sounds though (easily the best Jazz I've heard) I think you wouldn't be able to buy a better one. More importantly, you'll use it a lot more than in it's current configuration so you'll make your Old Man happy too
16.
Mick Khan references
Reminds me of my youth: "M Khan is bent"
17. Hmmm, but stuck here... I've just wired in a Wizard Thumper to my P Bass but the volume doesn't work properly and it doesn't turn the volume all the way off. I'm using a CTS 250K Audio taper Pot and checked the wiring compared to my other P bass but have no clue why the volume won't shut off completely. Any ideas?
18. Steve bought a P Retro off me and was a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended. Thanks Steve
19. For sale here are most of the bits and pieces you would need to wire your bass up with the original Concentric pot V/T per pickup configuration. The only bit missing is the jack plug wiring. The stacked knobs are genuine Fender 62 reissues with chrome volume pot and black tone pot, the control plate is a genuine Fender 62 reissue unit too. The pots are 250/500k CTS and there is a Fender 0.3uf and a 0.5mfd capacitor. Everything is brand new and completely unused and recently imported from the USA (basspartsresource.com) I didn't bother ordering the notched centre detent washers as I don't like the click, click tone pots. Here's the wiring diagram too which I used to source the correct Fender parts from. http://www.guitarnucleus.com/gitschems/JazzBass62_wir.jpg Yours for £45 inc postage
