Well, there's a great musical heritage around these parts - we'll be swapping Paul Weller stories next.....the best I can do is that I was in the same class as his cousin, played footie outside his house on the Maybury estate, and met the original Jam bass player (Steve someone...) in his music shop in Walton once....!
Met Bruce and Rick at Water Rats one Saturday afternoon
2. Lovely Bass Javier. I hope it finds a home soon. Javier is a TOP guy to deal with and I can't recommend him highly enough for a totally pain-free and fast deal
3. Greetings from Knaphill You'll find Woking and the surrounding areas well represented here. I had a 76 P Bass in the same colour as your Mustang and I'm sure the colour was Mocha
4. Not sure if this is in the right forum, but I am looking to trade a mint condition Fender American Series (2008 model) rosewood P Bass neck for a maple one (same series only please). I don't mind if it's a Jazz or P Bass. This comes complete with the lightweight tuners, so please let me know if you have anything of interest.
5.
Thanks Nick, so I take it your newest acquisition beats the 62RI hands-down in your opinion? I am a klutz!
Sorry Clarky. Easier to play, lighter, better workmanship (IMHO) and far better value for money. BUT, I guess if you have the option to try a few first you'll get hold of a decent one. I've not played a bad 2008-9 American Fender yet but have found that the QC of the vintage reissues is far less consistent. That said, I reckon if you get a goodun it will probably beat the US Standard hands down.
6. I've played 3 of them Clarky and wasn't that impressed. The Concentric knobs are great and more versatile than the current set up but I was quite uninspired by them.
7. I've played this and if I could possibly afford it I'd have it in a shot. Very lightweight and sounds amazing. I think you need a firm talking-to Barrie

11. Yet another successful Clark-Murphy Deal done. I've just taken ownership of Clarky's new American Series Jazz bass and it's the nicest Jazz I've ever played. A top guy to deal with and highly recommended. Thanks Clarky and I hope you and the family have a great Chrismas and prosperous 2010.
12.
Cracking bass Nick......unfortunately my Ray only has but 4 strings. Do you think he'd notice?
5'ers only I'm afraid Mart although I've recommended he look at the new Fender American Series P and Jazzes too. Now willing to sell for £720.
13.
Just look like flatwounds to me.
Thank you BB I've been asked about a cash price for this, so I think £720 is reasonable.
14. Met John today for a deal on my (now his) 51 P bass. Top guy and incredibly easy to deal with. I also had a chance to look at his Traben that's currently for sale. What a gorgeous bass. Thanks for meeting me John and stay in touch
15. Updated with Trades list!!! I have a chance of buying something nice from a mate of mine and in order to do so I put my Fender USA Deluxe Fretless Jazz up for sale. Being Christmas however I'm not sure how much money people have to spend. So after a bit of a negotiation, he's willing to swap for a: Stingray 5 string; New model Fender US 5 String; Fender Vintage Reissue P Bass (for me not for my mate!!) Sandberg 5 String; EUB The Tolex case has a few marks on it, but it comes with all the candy etc. This Jazz is in immaculate condition and plays beautifully. It's very light and sounds amazing. It's currently on Ebay with 23 watchers but no offers yet. Here's the spec: The pinnacle of U.S.-manufactured Fender bass guitars. The premium Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass represents the production Fender bass guitar at its peak. It's exquisitely crafted and finished and features great hardware and electronics. Equipped with Fender/Schaller Deluxe Lite-Bass tuners, a deluxe chrome-plated bridge that allows both string-thru or top-loading, and 2 dual-coil Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Jazz pickups. The Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass also has 18-volt 3-band active EQ with master volume and a pan pot for pickup blending. This select alder-body bass has a modern C-shaped, graphite-reinforced maple neck with a contoured heel (for easy access to upper frets), five-bolt neck plate, rosewood rolled-edge fingerboard, abalone dot inlays and highly detailed nut and fret work. Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass Fretless Features: U.S. manufactured Premium alder body Graphite-reinforced maple neck with contoured heel and modern C shape Rosewood fretboard with rolled edges 18-volt active preamp with 3-band EQ Noiseless J Bass Samarium Cobalt pickups Fender/Schaller Deluxe Lite-Bass tuning machines Deluxe chrome-plated steel bridge plate (string-through-body or top-load) with nickel-plated brass saddles Anyway, it would be good to see what's out there. I'm more than happy to meet somewhere rather than post over Christmas. Now willing to sell for £720.00.
16. I'm selling a pair (1 active 1 passive) 12" PA Monitors. They are Tomann's "The Box" range and the active 1 is identical to this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_ma120_mk_ii.htm There are a few scuffs and bumps but they're in very good condition and sound good (120w). The only reason I am selling is because we are upgrading our PA system. I'd rahter these were picked up (based near Woking) but would be happy to meet somewhere too. £100 for the pair ONO. They really are in decent condition and no issues whatsoever.
17. I just bought Hodge's pair of Aguilar DB112's off him and must say they were even better than described. He offered to meet me on Friday and drove at least 2 hours to hand them over in person, so we spent a cold foggy hour at Baldock Services talking "bass". I used them in anger on Saturday night and am more than happy with the deal. Thanks again Hodge; it was a pleasure to meet you.
18. Bought John's Black 2008 US Fender P Bass. It arrived exactly as described and is a wonderful bass. Highly recommended.
19.
At the request of a BC'er, I A/B'ed my Nash '63 Jazz, with DiMarzio UltraJazz pickups, against my MIA 2009 Jazz to see how the pickups varied in terms of output and tone. I was rather surprised at the findings. The output/volume of the new MIA 2009 pickup is, if anything, slightly higher than the UltraJazz when directly A/B'ed into my Mesa combo with same full-on volumes/tone knob settings. Maybe it could be due to older strings on my MIA and fractionally higher pickup placements? Perhaps, but I expected the UJ's to be appreciably louder than the stock Fender p/ups and they are definitely not. The 2009 MIA is also slightly richer sounding, especially on the E and A strings, the UJ sounding more middy and probably better for soloing (which I don't do!). But actually there was not a whole lot in it again. Conclusion: there really is very little in it and - if I had a slight preference - it would be for the stock 2009 MIA pickups. Either option sounds good though to my ears. Maybe Fender have just been continuously impoving their stock pickups (as well as QC more generally)? On this basis I would most certainly not look to "upgrade" the pickups on a newer Fender MIA Jazz.
Wow Clarky! Good review. You Could be the next Suzy Perry, only sexier
