This week alone I've agreed to buy two basses and to sell my Epi cab, so yeah GAS big-time! Obviously the incoming basses mean there may shortly be outgoing basses ....
Spill the beans Clarky.......
Old Horse Murphy. He likes nice Basses, and this is Very Nice
He does Steve, but unfortunately he's also taken a pledge not to buy any nice basses!! Mind you, this one is gorgeous. Built the same year as my wife and looks like it's picked up less dings along the way too -
I took up bass 4 years ago and in that time, spent a lot of time (practice) and money (lessons) undoing my ex-guitarist plucking hand technique and chronic plectrum dependency. I felt a need to disassociate myself with my six string past and wanted to play bass 'properly' - ie; fingerstyle, mainly cos some people (including me at the time) frowned on using a plectrum. Now, after 300 gigs and a grand's worth of lessons, I'll say with all the conceit in the world that I've now got a pretty good fingerstyle technique, I play like a 'proper' bassist and wouldn't give the time to anyone holding a Les Paul. Anyway, my band play classic soul albeit with a bit of a raw edge and frankly, we're all pig sick of it. So, we took the decision to bring the set forwards in time. Now it's Kings of Leon, Killers, Stereophonics, Kaiser Chiefs et al and you know what, I'm back using a bloody pick again And......I'm lovin' it. It's good to have both techniques under yer belt, horses for courses and all - that's my opinion and I just thought I'd share that with ya.
Only just seen this thread and can totally sympathise Al. I've always played finger style and only recently due to a change in our set list, have started playing with a Pick. Wow! What have I been missing?? I actually find it easier to keep time while singing too, so now I play half the set with fingers and the other half with a Pick.

I've sat down and given myself a stern talking-to about 2009. I intend to neither buy or sell a bass this year. I said the same in 2008 and failed miserably after about 4 weeks. After that, well things got obscenely crazy.....I daren't even begin to list the ins and outs. All I know is that it has cost me more money than is decent and I'm actually embarassed by my compulsive, selfish behaviour. So, 2009 is time to grow up a bit and be grateful for what I've got. After all the shenanigans of 2008, I'm left with the best Fender P bass I've ever played, my Shuker 5 string and a beautiful Ric 4003. All this goes through a GB Shuttle 6.0 and an Epifani UL310. I really can't see me wanting/needing anything else to my gear. I really can't. We'll see what happens over the year, but I hope I'm strong enough to stick to my guns this time. Wish me luck

I've decided to move some bits on that aren't being used and are taking up some space. First up is a Boss OC-3 Octave pedal. A great piece of kit in excellent condition. Comes with box and instructions- £40 inc P&P. Next is a genuine Fender US P bass pickguard in black. It comes with all the original wrapping etc, but is has been opened but is unused- £20 inc P&P. Finally is a mirrored Pickguard for a US/Mex Fender Jazz bass- this is unused too but has been opened- £15 inc P&P. THere will probably be a few more bits to follow as I go through my kit

It would look beautiful with my Shuker P.... Lovely Mike. Just lovely
I had the pickguardian thingy in all of my Ricks as my natural playing position is right over the pickup I never get tired of this picture
That's got to be one of the nicest Rics I think I've ever seen. And if it's any good to anyone, I have a spare chrome coloured Pickguardian (with the perspex topper too). £15 in P&P for the both. I have one on my Ric and it's a very simple but effective piece of kit.

And the Winner is.........................

I love mine- the best amp I've played through. They get a bit battered looking quickly so I've rackmounted mine. -
What was the name of the guitar shop that was almost opposite the Astoria? I had the choice of buying an Aria TA60 (??) semi acoustic guitar or an Epiphone Semi Acoustic bass (60's model- not sure what but similar to the Jack Cassady model) for £200 years and years ago when I was 15 or so. Guess which one I chose
i thought the Fender P-Bass was the first guitar-style bass, and the precision name referred to the fretted neck being more precise than the fretless double bass of the time?
That was my understanding too

Just bought a Sansamp DI off Jim. Arrived very quickly and exactly as described. I'm very happy. Thanks Jim
That's funny, when I click on your feedback link, I just get pictures of naked rugby players? - What have you been up to in your spare time! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4154&hl=horse
But have you seen their positive Feedback Colin? It's a good job this isn't Wayne's Control+ V thread otherwise I could be in serious trouble -

I've added the link to my Feedback to my signature. What's more is I fell damned proud of myself for managing to do it. Hooray for me! -
Spotted this on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJViDdqUYyo Sounds pretty sweet! Lets hope these start appearing in music shops soon - would love to try one.
Very nice. I've had a quick go on this one through my rig and you definitely get a realistic Double Bass sound. Shame I'm useless at playing it
