Nearly new Musicman Stingray 5- GONE!!
Old Horse Murphy replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Basses For Sale
Once again, thanks for the interest.Nothing has grabbed me so for to make me want to trade. Here's what I would be interested in (other than cash!!): - Lakland 5 string (either DJ or JO) - Decent old US Fender Precision - US Reissue Fender (particularly the 62 reissue Precision) - Possibly a Warwick Streamer LX 5 string or a Status 5 string (S2 or similar) The reason for looking to move my SR5 on, is that I'm looking for a very different sound to my SR4. -
Maybe underline the bit where it says about indicating the model they want. Other than that, I'd act it out with glove puppets!!
That colour is HOT. I´m sure it´ll look gorgeous with the gold hardware. Your wife has great taste. In basses, anyway.
LOL- the sad thing is I think she'd agree with you
Did you ever ask on the EBMM forums about your bass? The gold hardware is very strange. Replacing the preamp is sacrilege if you ask me though!
I did ask on the forums and apparently, they did use gold hardware once in a while but it was by special order (USA only I think). I'm going to give the John East Preamp a go. If it doesn't sound right to me, I can replace the existing one...

I get a very similar sound from my 4003.

I actually started off as a Saxophone player; mainly Tenor Sax (Yamaha YTS-62) and Soprano (Selmer Mk6), but had my 4 front teeth knocked out playing rugby. I sold the Soprano sax a while back but still keep my old Yamaha lying aorund. I still toot a bit, but not with any real heart. I'm happy playing bass at the moment.
Smokin' hot - I like it. Will you be keeping the gold hardware?
I think so. I reckon it will go better with the body colour (my wife told me)

I bought a 1999 Stingray 4 a while back for a steal, but I can't say I was too convinced by the colour scheme...white with gold hardware. However, it has the nicest neck and maple fingerboard and it was worth it for it's playability. It divided Basschat straight down the middle as far as people saying they liked or disliked the white and gold. I seem to recall MB1 in particular think it was the best looking bass he had ever seen and offered me a fortune for it (then again, time plays havoc on one's memory and I may have just imagined this bit). Anyhow, being the fool that I am, I asked my wife what she thought of it. She hated it. Cut a long story short, I (we) made the decision to get it refinished. The white body had a few scuffs on it, so it needed doing anyway. I decided to go for a metallic amber after I'd come across a 1954 Studebaker online that had been resprayed the same colour. After a bit of phoning/emailing I came across the Guitar Doctor based up in Chorley (ex-Patrick Eggle) and he agreed to refinish it and build it again with a John East pre-amp instead of the normal Stingray wiring. 4 weeks later and the refinish has been completed. I'm now just waiting for the bass to be reassembled and sent back down. I appreciate it's not going to be to everyone's taste, but I can't wait to have her back!! I do hope you'll agree though, that the colour match Rich has managed to achieve from the photos I sent him is remarkable. The only sad thing about this story is that while I've been waiting for Ray to come back, I've fallen madly in love with my Teal SR4 again!! Can a man have 2 favorite basses? We'll see...

"Do you know Wonderful Tonight?"

We had one a few weeks ago. "Do you do requests?" "Yes. What would you like?" "Oh, anything" and then walks away..... -
I've discovered that I can't play my bass whilst tapping my foot to keep time - it puts me off. I have to think about tapping my foot and this causes me to lose concentration on what my fingers are doing. Anyone else have this problem?
If you think you've got problems, you should see me dance...Murder on the Dancefloor indeed
As a matter of interest OHM, what don't you like about the 'Ray5?
Hi Homey (always wanted to say that!!) I like it loads, but the majority of stuff I play is on 4 strings, so I use by SR4's. When I do use the 5 stringer, I really want it to sound different to the 4 string. Does that make sense? Probably not. I guess I just want there to be a discernible difference in the character. As they're both Stingrays, I don't feel I get that. -
Luke bought my Bass Pod XT and Floorboard off me- great comms and super fast payment. More importantly, he's a top bloke and I could've (did) spent ages talking Bass with him. Keep in touch mate and good luck with the Funk!!
What sort of stuff do they play - jazz is a very broad church? Stu Hamm and Steve Vai are not the first names that spring to mind when someone says jazz. How about So What? Nice bit of bass and they should know it unless they are a dixieland band.
Bloody Hell. I'm an Old Pates boy. I used to play Rugby for the Old Patesians up in Leckhampton until I was 18 before I went to Clifton RFC.
