  1. If you are Pete, then I am too! I tried the Conservatoire and the 1950 and they both definitely are different. The Conservatoire is Eb and the 1950 is D. I was blissfully ignorant that there was any difference at all in DB necks until I researched in more detail after Paddy’s post. I miss those days of innocence 😂
  2. Back from the workshop and fitted with a lovely new adjustable bridge and it plays beautifully. Matt at Bristol Violins has kindly offered to make further adjustments free of charge should it's new owner require them. He's a top chap
  3. Funnily enough, I've just got mine back and it had a D neck!
  4. My Stentor 1950 is currently having a new bridge fitted so I can't check it, sorry. My Stentor Conservatoire however has an Eb neck. I'm not sure they would make the 1950's any differently (can't be certain) but can check when I get it back on Friday.
  5. I can't believe this is still here. Mind you, I can't believe I'm still here either...
  6. These are lovely basses but sadly I'm all stocked up right now. GLWTS
  7. Mustang Sally and Get Lucky. Possibly Sex On Fire if they're a bit raunchy 🥱
  8. SR5's and SR4's are totally different basses to me and if they weren't both called Stingrays I'd never suss they were related. I love SR5's and even like the teardrop shaped pickguard. To me, they're the best 5 strings I've played and I really like the sound from them too. SR4's should be a slam dunk but I struggle with 3eq SR4's and I've never quite gelled with them. The thumb position thing doesn't concern me as I've always played with a floating thumb or thumb on the string above. Sound-wise though, I just can't get them to work but funnily enough I really like the sound of the SR5 🤷‍♂️
  9. This is sadly completely unused right now so I've decided to see if there is any interest in it. It's a gorgeous Fender Japan unlined Fretless neck from 1987-88 with original tuners in super overall condition and minimal fingerboard wear. I had a P Bass shaped body built by Guitar and Bass Builds in Oxford with the following specs: - 2 piece swamp ash body - natural gloss lacquered finish - Jazz bass pickup rear routing in (from memory) 60's spacing. - matching rear control cavity. They've done a lovely job and chosen some really nice wood for the natural finish. It is sporting a Fender high mass bridge (a la Badass) and EMG Jazz pickups with wiring loom (battery on the rear cavity). The controls are VVT. Weight-wise it's 9lbs 5oz. The whole lot cost around £900 to put together and it plays superbly but is sadly just not being used. I'm looking for £650. It doesn't come with a case or gigbag, but if someone wants it couriered I'll make sure to bomb-proof and will post insured included in the price. Alternatively it can be picked up near Monmouth or Bristol, or I'm happy to meet an hour away from either.
  10. For sale is a set of Thomastik JR344 nickel roundwounds cut for a 2+2 headstock (43-89 gauge). These are the roundwounds brother of the much vaunted JF344 flats. These cost over £45 plus postage new. These are in excellent nick for £30 posted.
  11. This DB is currently with The Bristol Violin Shop for a set up and to have a good quality adjustable bridge fitted. I decided to get the work done to save any potential buyer having to get it done themselves and it will be picked up on Friday 1st. Given the work will be down as already paid for I'm looking for £630 for the DB and the original gigbag. If a potential buyer wants the superb Tom and Will gigbag I have advertised, I'll do the whole lot for £700.
  12. Ed is a great guy to deal with and it's looks a cracker of a bass 👍
  13. So disappointed. I was hoping for this. Glad you had a good time nonetheless
  14. Houses come and houses go....😂
  15. If anyone wants to watch my reaction to BT's latest excuse for us still not having broadband a week later after they accidentally ceased our line I'd be more than happy to film it. Strictly 18+ though.
  16. It's becoming increasingly the case over here too, Blue. If you check out a lot of the big supermarkets there's a significant portion of grey hairs working now. Some do because they want to and others because they simply have to. If I'm in a position to supplement my pension by playing in bands I'd do exactly the same too. More power to you 👍
  17. My bitsa Fretless has one of these Japanese necks and they are sublime 👍
  18. I'm all for hobbies, but just be careful mate. I knew this bloke once....
  19. Very nice 👍 Seriously though, do we need to talk about your obsession with knobs?
