  1. Hmmm. I visited Bass Direct this afternoon to have a look at some really lightweight basses Mark had in stock.

Back in October I had a major operation on my back/flank due to ongoing issues (mostly caused by rugby). To make matters worse, I developed an abscess, so had to have a bloody drain fitted for three weeks. It was taken out yesterday and the only thing I can imagine feels remotely close to how I feel is being let out of prison!

As a result, my maximum bearable weight for a bass is just over 8 1/2-9lbs. Anything even slightly heavier causes me real issues.

Anyway, this Stingray Special weighs in a just under 8 1/2lbs and is virtually mint, having been used sparingly by its previous owner. After a quick play it was a done deal. These are retailing at something like £2,800 now (if you can find one) which is (to me) insane.

I did p/x some bits, so it wasn't all one way traffic I hasten to add. It's not an excuse, promise. I guess you can say I'm well and truly out though!

Glad to hear it. would definitely like to try this before sending my specs to Jon.

You didn’t happen to try the white fender jazz deluxe that has now reappeared did you? Wondering if it’s any good, given someone has obviously returned it.

    I didn't, sorry.

The Shuker really was a lovely bass. I was sorely tempted

I’m hoping to get to try it at the weekend.

I had a quick play on the Shuker today. It's absolutely sublime and although the nut is listed at 44mm it feels nowhere near that big as it's quite shallow front to back. It's a lovely weight too and if I wasn't already fully P-bassed up I'd have taken it home.

Hope it works out for you.

This photo is from a big gig at a racecourse, as you can see I was leaping around like I was in The Dillinger Escape Plan.

That all came a cropper when a poorly planned jump lead to a badly sprained ankle and I couldn't drive for a couple of days.

My heavily pregnant fiancé was thrilled

Let me guess. We're you playing Just The Way You Are by Billy Joel when this was taken?

  5. It's funny, with my SR5 and other Stinrays I've had with just one pickup I've been more than happy. With 2 pickups I just can't settle with the sound.  It's completely my mindset, not the bass at all.

  6. I've got an immaculate one in Lava Pearl that I withdrew from sale as there was no interest at the time. It's a 2003 model which was their first year of production.

I agree they look better in bright colours

We’re you ‘just browsing’ and tripped and fell on the keyboard, hitting the add to basket and then the confirm buttons? Happens.

Not quite. What actually happened was I asked Alexa to add this to my shopping list (my wife's a fan of a bottle or two on a Tuesday night):

  8. I've not had this long but a few more recent acquisitions means I want to jettison a P Bass of some description as I've got that covered.

This is a limited edition P Bass in a rare Sea Foam Pearl colour with a factory fitted Jazz width neck with binding and blocks. The action is super-low and the bass plays beautifully.

Condition is super/clean with only a very small nick on the binding between 2nd and 3rd fret by the G String. It really can't be felt though.

The weight according to my wife's digital scales is between 8lbs 14oz and 9lbs 1oz. I'd go with 9lbs dead but it doesn't feel that heavy to me.

I've attached a link to the original advert and am looking to recoup what I paid for it- £625 inc. postage. There's no gig bag but I have tons of packing and some proper bass shipping boxes.

    No trade offers please!

Just keep buying, selling & trading gradually over a long period of time until you have a large number in hard & soft cases which can easily be added to or swapped without them ever noticing.

I'm up to 75 basses and 10 guitards. Once I got past about 40 she didn't notice anymore... ;) 😂

I'm up to 10 basses and 2 guitars and I feel dirty!
