A before and after shot. It's now wearing the treble bezel (a must for me) and the new black pickguard.

I love a bit of pointiness. I've still got a couple of Charvel/Jackson basses that I gig with. It's amazing the amount of people who come up and ask what it is...

Just think of all those disappointed anglers who turn up....

Well, I decided to scratch the itch again and picked up a lovely 4003S today. I've changed the Truss Rod cover for a black one and a black pickguard is hopefully arriving tomorrow so I can change that too. I love Mapleglo Rics but find the white plastic makes them look a bit anaemic. This one has a lovely chunky neck and I'm loving the new style bridges too. The lack of bevelled edge on the body is really comfortable too. PS: sorry it didn't work out for you @Clarky I've been there many times myself sadly.

Hagstrom Swede or Ibanez AGB 200. Which one would you choose?

I have one of the new Guilds and really can't recommend them highly enough. Build quality is top notch and they sound ace. They come in left handed too: https://www.mannsmusic.co.uk/guitars/guild-newark-st-starfire-i-bass-cherry-red-left-handed-electric-bass-guitar.htm -
that's very well-put. They feel like old friends from the minute you pick them up.

While I completely agree about often being overlooked, it's the out of the blue compliments that keep me going. I remember my first gig with an old band where once we'd finished a punter came out of the blue and said "I just wanted to shake your hand and tell you you're a fantastic bass player". It made my year. Similarly, a landlord once came over and told me I was head and shoulders the best musician he'd heard for quite a while. Again, makes enduring all the guitar solos worthwhile...well, it certainly helps. In the words of Sir Richard Francis Burton: "Do what thy manhood bids thee do, from none but self expect applause" -
I must've unsubscribed to Andertons about a dozen times now. Over the last week I've had an email at least once a day from them so I'm not sure if it now counts as cyber-stalking....

Just reminiscing watching TOTP 1991 (not a good year for music IMHO) but brings back fond memories of doing the same every time I used to watch TOTP as a kid and avidly Bass gear spotting. Obviously in the days before the internet it was a lot more difficult identifying anything even remotely exotic, but that was half the fun

Brilliant player. We used to cover Its Different For Girls and I got to play his bass solo at the end (well, a version of it anyway). It was always a pleasure to play and I love his musicality.

Adam Clayton was one of the reasons I picked up the bass in the first place. The Joshua Tree came out when I was in my early teens and I thought his playing on it was what kept everything together and really brought the whole album alive. I'd give my right arm to be as inept, talentless and successful as him

I would have always considered myself to be a Fender fan, but I think I'm more of a Leo fan actually. Nothing else really quite hits the mark for me Bass-wise. I'm definitely a Mark Bass amp fan through and through and my pedalboard has always contained an EBS Compressor and Octaver. It's only on reflection that I realised I've probably been more faithful/consistent with amps and pedals than I have with basses and cabs.
