  1. For sale is a recently acquired 2021 Fender Road Worn 60th Anniversary Jazz Bass in Firemist Silver with matching headstock. and vintage style Case. All tags are included too. 2. I can't helping thinking what he'll look like in 40 years time in his Farrah Slacks and Pringle sweater putting his golf clubs in to his Volvo. I'm all for tattoos, but, well... "well you see, I used to be a pop star..."
  3. Well done Karl. What are your first impressions of it? Not in a Jon Culshaw way
  4. I hang around shops that sell plus-size leather trousers and ask the punters if they've got any basses to sell.
  5. Completely agree, although there has been a slight increase in prices over the last year or so, although the same is true of most instruments. Each one of these has cost no more than £300 and unbelievably the Jackson I sadly moved on was £120. That's crazy money for a Japanese built Bass of quality IF you can live with the headstock shape which i personally love.
  6. I've got two Charvel 1B's, two Charvel 2B's and a Jackson Eliminator. I had another Jackson PJ with shark fins, pointy headstock etc and foolishly got rid of it. D'oh!
  7. So this arrived today as an addition to my 80's/early 90's Pointy headstock collection. It's an all-original Charvel 1B (goodness, I think the strings were the original ones!) which is Charvel's take on a passive P Bass bit with a reverse P pickup. I've got another one in red that I'm hoping to be reunited with after lockdown and they really are super basses. This one is in a real state and looks like it's been used as an oar to row through a swamp at some stage: it's filthy. The knobs were spinning freely and the control cavity looked like it had someone's ashes in it when I opened it but both were quickly resolved (amen). The neck had taken a step to the right at some point and the G String was very close to the edge near the body , so needed a bit of a tap on the headstock. I'm still not sure it's 100% as I've not restrung it yet but it looks a lot better. Tomorrow I'm going to don my full HAZMAT suit and give it a good clean. Fingers crossed I'll survive.
  8. For sales is a lovely lined fretless (Series 2) Swamp Ash model in white blonde, just a few months old. There are two tiny dings in the back that are too small to photograph. The previous owner added tape and repositioned the dot markers along the side of the fretboard (pictured), as the positioning of them was throwing me out. This will come off easily, but you may well find it's easier with them on (I know I do!) It has Straplocks fitted and I'll supply the strap ends too. It plays beautifully and sounds ace. I just prefer unlined boards. I have a soft/hard case I'll ship this in for £330 inc. insured postage.
  9. I genuinely don't know. I think he's an eccentric who met a sort of Ed Wood/Trump/David Brent type of character who possibly thinks what he produces is world class (the weird guy with the sunglasses who introduces the videos is the guy who directs the videos). Either that or it's a superb parody. I really hope it's real. The world needs people like that.
  10. By all accounts he was in the Marine Corps and when stationed in Scotland in the 70's decided to get some demos cut with the hope of landing a recording contract. These are the songs he recorded that were later broadcast on a local cable channel and videos were recorded for them. Im guessing lots of mushrooms were involved in the post-production but actually I think some of the songs aren't far off from being really good, given proper production etc.
  11. YouTube is your friend for Mr Gormley's back catalogue. There's a lot more of this quality and some even poorer. seriously. Here's one for you. Again, it's a treat for the eyes, ears and soul: it's not often you get to look in to the eyes of a genuine mad man....
  12. I see your Sound and raise you Visuals too...the one and only Mark Gormley:
  13. For sale are two Boss AB-2 2-way Selector Pedals, allowing you to swap between instruments, or amps etc. Both are in excellent condition. One is boxed and one is unboxed. Yours for £28 each inc. postage
  14. I remember seeing Graham Gouldman on Songwriters Circle saying he was obsessed with the chord progression of House of the Rising Sun and decided he would be "heavily influenced" by it when he wrote For Your Love that was recorded by The Yardbirds! RIP Hilton
  15. I've had several 70's P Basses and the best one I had was a feather-light natural one from 76. It still didn't feel as good as my current P Bass to me. I've been in to 80's-90's Jackson's/Charvels for a few years now. I've got three more at my mate's but due to lockdown I haven't been able to retrieve them. In terms of build quality and playability they're unbelievable and are a really good price for what you get. I don't even mind the pointy headstock either!
  16. Hi Matt That P Bass was a cracker. It's was a 2007 I think (the same as my main bass). Had my roving eye not caught something else I'd have kept hold of it! I hope you're all keeping well.
  17. And here it is, along with my other Fenders and then a full family shot which is rather eclectic. Funnily enough, the JMJ Mustang was an impulse buy that I decided to get rid of as soon as it arrived. Well that never happened. I'd describe it as the equivalent of my office dog: it sits in a stand right next to my desk at home and when the teleconferences are a bit long it sits in my lap
  18. Spot on Lozz. My main bass is a 2007 US P Bass with the custom shop pickups. Build-wise it's probably inferior to the new US Fenders but I don't even have to think about playing it and when I let other people play it, they're usually very impressed with how it feels and sounds. Horses for courses I guess but it's the only instrument apart from my Baritone sax that I'd never get rid of.
  19. Oh and to finish the anecdote, I ended up with a Firemist Silver 60th Anniversary road worn Jazz. As soon as I picked it up it just felt "right" to me 😀
  20. While I agree on the whole, Chris, I've always found that if a bass doesn't feel right to me, I'm likely to be driving at 50 miles an hour in the middle lane (to continue the analogy). It's just one of those things: some instruments inspire me to push myself while others (such as the newer Fenders) just don't. It's probably just me, but there you go.
