So sadly my used P Bass hunt proved a bit of a dead end and as a result, I thought I'd cast the net a bit wider and landed on a Jazz Bass! Specifically a 2017 Fender American Professional Series Jazz in sunburst. I am a Fender fan through and through, but when I opened the case to reveal a gorgeous coloured Jazz bass I must admit, I felt a bit....meh. When I plugged it in, it sounded great but again I felt like I was driving a good quality hire car: there was no emotional attachment at all. This is a feeling that has been creeping up on me for a while now and I generally get the same feeling of ambivalence when I see new Fender Americans on hangers in guitar shops (remember them?) Conversely, when I look at and play one of the Mexican Vintera or road worns , it's a totally different kettle of fish. They just seem to have more character and feel more alive in the hand. Years ago though, I'd have run a mile of anyone has suggested a Mexican Fender, label snob that I am. All a bit strange really

Hmmm, don't know about that. We're forecast snow this weekend and I'll need to clear the paths somehow...

Question about set up of a PBass
Old Horse Murphy replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks. I'll try and get some photos of it. The problem is, the truss rod won't turn any further and of you drop the saddles it chokes out. -
I've just taken delivery of a Fender Japan P Bass and the action is very high, especially from the 12th fret onwards. It's higher than I find comfortable on the lower frets too. The bridge saddles are high and any lowering of them causes choking and fret buzz after the 12th fret. The Truss Rod appears to be maxed out also. I've changed the strings that were on it as they were very high tension to something with less tension but it's not made any difference. I've contacted the seller to see if there were any issues they had experienced with the action but haven't had a reply as yet. I'd really like to be able to drop the action as at the moment, the strings are very "springy" if you try to play them above the 12th fret: in all honesty I'm stumped. Does anyone have any ideas at all? Thanks!

***SOLD*** - Mike Lull M4V - Jazz Bass - Super Light
Old Horse Murphy replied to Chiliwailer's topic in Basses For Sale
I had one of these for a while a few years ago but sold it to Pete Gales. It was a cracking instrument and played beautifully. It took me a while to realise that it actually had a passive mode (d'oh!) but once I found it I used it all the time. The smaller bodies are incredibly comfortable too. Don suppose you fancy a Candy Apple Red Fender American Original Jaguar do you?! 😉 -
Martin recently bought a Mark Bass amp I had for sale and as usual, the deal was faultless as you'd expect from a member Basschat Royalty A great guy and someone I'd highly recommend if you're buying or selling

Does anyone have any suggestions for a set of roundwound strings for a string through body 30" scale bass? I am really not a fan of D'Addario as such as I generally find them quite high tension (my preferred round wounds are Ernie Ball 45-100's) but will be grateful for any other suggestions.

I had a very apologetic email from Music Square today and all is good. By all accounts they've been impacted by the Brexit "deal" and the general impact it's had on logistics (amongst other things) which I had suspected and a few BC'ers had also confirmed. What a mess all round. Still, at least we get to have blue passports again. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, it's been much appreciated

Do you know, I hadn't thought of that

Thanks Steve, that's as I suspected. I wouldn't mind if I had a reply saying as much and asking me to be patient a little while longer. Radio silence always makes me feel a bit suspicious, especially when they reply so quickly if they think a sale is in the pipeline

I'm looking for a bit of advice from the Basschat community and also an opinion as to whether I am being unreasonable and/or unrealistic. Before Christmas I purchased a Gibson SG for a very good price from Music Square who are based in Poland. The whole experience was very easy and very quick and the guitar arrived in good order. Unfortunately, it wasn't really what I was looking for as the neck was quite clubby, so I contacted Music Square and asked if I could return it for a refund. They kindly agreed and I sent to guitar back to the UK address they supplied and it was received and signed for in the 29th December. On the 5th Jan I thought I'd drop them a line to see if everything was okay and asked whether I needed to do anything else. I didn't receive a reply, so sent a follow up the following day and then another email the following day. As yet, I've received nothing back which is unusual as when I was looking to buy something they were very quick at replying. I appreciate there's been a New Year and a Brexit "deal" which has caused all sorts of issues with exports etc. In addition Music Square's website now says they won't be supplying anything to the UK until further notice. Even so, I feel I should have received a reply by now, even out of courtesy. Am I being a bit unfair and impatient and has anyone else had any experience with Music Square?
