Instruments you'd buy, but wouldn't...
Old Horse Murphy replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
One of those Lakland Sharon Osbornes . I love Laklands but can't stand that woman. -
I've always done set lists in Excel and being an accountant by training, assumed everyone did the same. It's the right way: it's God's way I'm led to believe The band leader and lead guitarist in one of my bands are both lawyers and insist on sending set lists out in Word. That just perverted and makes me feel quite violent towards them in a passive-aggressive way. (I tut, loudly).
-
I'm thinking of moving away from having paper set lists and song crib sheets on the floor because a) I can't always see them and b) I generally screw them up with my foot or with cables. Does anyone use an iPad at all and if so, what apps do you use? I'm not massively interested in the dots, more for set lists and my scrawled notes.

I was recruited to join a well-established 80's covers band based in the South West. It had a number of things that appealed to me: I love a lot of 80's music, some fun bass lines, shoulder pads, playing festivals and I get to play sax on a number of tracks. The only downside is that since joining, all this sh*t happened and we've not been able to gig yet. We just had our 31st July gig cancelled so the first one is September Still, at least I have more time to refine the mullet.

I had similar with a sax clip on Condenser Mic. The guy bought it, couldn't get it to work and tried to return it as faulty. I actually found the manual of the unit he was trying to connect it to and actually had to almost talk him through it step by step. About two weeks later he contacted me again and said it clearly wasn't working. It was. I then got a return request raised as a faulty item, so I sent him a clip of it actually in use. The return request was cancelled shortly afterwards and I've heard nothing since. Funny that

Well, I offered £20 as a contribution and she accepted. I still feel rather aggrieved and I probably didn’t need to do it but for the peace of mind it brings, it was worth it...the cow 😂

I think if she contacts me again I will report her. Saxes are funny things and if there are keys misaligned, you know all about it when you play it and you certainly wouldn't wait 4 weeks to send it to a repairer or indeed not bother to contact the seller to report an issue.

So here's one for you: 7th Feb- Sold a Sax on EBay to a lovely lady on a Best Offer 13th Feb- Sax received by lovely lady 14th Feb- feedback left for me "great item, fantastic communication. A pleasure to deal with." Bless. All good. Two happy campers. Until today...basically I had an email from the lovely lady saying (paraphrasing) "you sold me a Sax described as perfect condition. Due to COVID lockdown I have only just had it set up and was told that the Sax had taken a bump at some stage and some of the keys needed realigning. You sold the item as being perfect. It cost me £50 to get it sorted. Are you willing to contribute to the work?" By my calculations, there were 33 working days including Saturdays from receipt of the Sax, to Boris' announcement re lockdown. That, and a glowing piece of feedback straight after delivery. I've chosen not to respond. The brass neck of some people staggers me. Is this some sort of record?

This seems to be a new feature of the bridge on the Stingray Specials. I found the same thing too and I know a number of owners have also.

No wonder he never got anywhere

I think that's the much-missed Bob Birch who played Bass with Elton John for many years. Definitely a better bass player than Presenter (his style reminds me of a nice version of Beavis and Butthead). He had a terribly tragic end after many years of living in excruciating pain following a hit and run. I saw him live a few times: phenomenal player. -
I recently sold Sid and wireless pouch it what was the last of a few deals I've done with him. Perfect as always and a lovely guy too. Highly recommended 😀

Really not sure about this but necessary work to my Tenor Sax means that I need to raise funds. As there's no movement on my Jazz Bass, this one is up This is an immaculate 2019 Fender American Original 50's P Bass in Aztec Gold. It comes with all the case candy and a black Fender G&G Case. It should have come with a tweed case but it was badly scratched so was replaced with a black Fender G&G tolex case as they didn't have any tweed ones. It's in equally as good condition. Its been strung with a set of Ernie Ball Slinky Nickels with a lovely low action. It's a lovely weight too and plays beautifully. Yours for £1,400 plus shipping. No trades thank you.

With his Farmer's hands I think he could use his thumb to push down all four strings at once. You'd definitely have wanted him playing Wicket Keeper in your Cricket team: Chris Squire + -

When will you start gigging again?
Old Horse Murphy replied to julietgreen's topic in General Discussion
I think we have gigs booked in at the end of July which I am rather hoping are cancelled. It's a new band to me and despite all the time at home, my job has been manic fortunately, so I'm woefully underprepared. I have a feeling that the band leader (drummer) who's retired and the keyboard player who's also retired may push for rehearsals soon, depending on social distancing rules. The female singer works in a school and the new male singer gigs as his main source of income, but has a very young son. I'd really rather not rehearse until the easing of lockdown has had a few weeks to bed in as at the moment I have a feeling we may be locked down again short-term given the way some of the idiots have behaved over the last few weekends. I think I won't say anything too much at this stage and go along with the flow. I'm hoping one of the others will looks to defer and say so before I do. That way I can look perhaps a bit more keen than I am: it's happened that way so far, so fingers crossed. -
Well, I tried but I just can't get on with Jazzes. For sale is a 2019 spotless Fender American Original Series Jazz in a gorgeous nitro Candy Apple Red. It comes with the case, candy, the original tortoiseshell pickguard, metalwork and original electrics. Weight-wise it's around 9lbs +/- a couple of oz either way. It also comes with a beautiful nitro mint pickguard and a Kiogon solderless stacked Knobs set of electrics (currently fitted). It's strung with a set of TI Flats. The extra pickguard and electrics would cost you near enough £200. I've has this a matter of weeks and it's the best Jazz I've played but just not for me. It really is in super condition and (unsurprisingly) never gigged. Why do I do these things? Yours for £1,350 plus shipping.

For sale is a mint condition Badass II Bridge with factory slotted saddles, 5 mounting screws and Allen key. It's chrome with the heel of bridge string mounting. These are getting rare now, especially wit the factory slotted multi spacing saddles and I bought this for a project which didn't materialise. I paid £100 posted and would like that back.

@onehandclapping (Terry) saw my wanted ad for a Fender Jazz pickguard and got in touch all the way from Australia. We landed on a very novel way of doing the deal, which included me sourcing and sending a care package for an elderly relative of his in England in exchange for him sending the pickguard to me. All good fun and it was great to be able to help spread some much- needed love at this time. The pickguard arrived in record time and was even better than described. All in all a very pleasant deal. Highly recommended and absolutely no issues at all with the geographical distance.

A final NBD?- Stingray Fretless
Old Horse Murphy replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
Hmmm, after listening to all the sage advice I've received on this thread, I clearly have been delusional for which I blame lockdown. Looks like I have some way to go before I can declare a full house. My wife will be delighted...
