A final NBD?- Stingray Fretless
Old Horse Murphy replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
Not listening. Not listening. 🙉 -
Well, I started the year with seven and am now down to five. That's good, right? Today I received a beautiful Stingray Fretless via a lovely chap on EBay. He ordered it from Music Man in 2015 and described it as being in very good condition. He undersold it: it's spotless and plays beautifully. So that leaves me with a P with rounds, a P with flats, a Jazz, a Stingray Special and a Fretless Stingray. I'm really not a 5 string player, so that's a full house isn't it? Surely that means I never need to buy another bass. Surely?

I've got a guitar with it. I wouldn't use anything else now

Just ordered an Alder bodied Fretless P7 Series for a decent price from Andertons. It'll hopefully arrive Tuesday and I'm really looking forward to trying it out (yep, bought blin, again). I'll post a review if anyone is interested.

Such an engaging and humble bloke too. He comes across as a guy you'd happily have a pint with. God I miss pints... -
NBD: Fender American Original 60's Jazz Bass
Old Horse Murphy replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
My wife says I'm a latter-day Robin Hood, Lozz. -
This was unexpected indeed, but hey ho; it sort of gives me the full set now (one P Bass with flats, One with Rounds, a Stingray and a Jazz Bass). I don't think I'll need a fiver (I've managed so far for 30-odd years) and I have a fretless I can borrow as and when. A friend if mine bought this new thinking that it was a 70's Jazz as he wanted the 70's pickup spacing (don't hear much difference myself) and after carefully installing the bridge cover etc. realised he'd made a mistake. Coincidentally, I'd always fancied a CAR Jazz and so a deal was done, just to help him out you understand. Having sold an Alto Sax and a few Basses recently I was in a position to do so. I've fit it with a set of TI Flats, just to mellow it down a bit and go the action nice and low for me (took a while with the 9.5" radius, but nowhere near as painful a process as a 7.5" radius) and it plays beautifully. It's very well built and put together nicely, but you don't half notice the difference when compared to a Music Man which is on a whole other level of quality to my eyes at least. I'm usually a fan of tortoiseshell pickguards but I really fancy a white one on this. Strange times...

I just sold Ovi a Bass and the deal was as good as it gets. Great communications and a lovely guy too. Highly recommended

I sold Dean some pickguards and it was a very easy and pleasant transaction. Highly recommended

NBD: Stingray Special in Burnt Apple
Old Horse Murphy replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks chaps. This was definitely a case of money to burn and not being able to sleep, so I did my usual prowl of the guitar shops I always check out for secondhand/ex demo bargains. This one was tucked quite a way down the list and I was really surprised that nobody had taken it. Maybe a sign of the times or maybe not the best pictures or advert, who knows? -
Well, three out one in. That's acceptable, right? I was down to two P Basses (one with rounds and one with flats) and was on the lookout for a Stingray. I found this one on Guitar Guitar's website advertised as used. Further investigation revealed that it still had the plastic on the pickguard and the stickers on the back of the body, so if it was used, it wasn't used much. After lots of research about these new Specials (18v electrics, roasted maple neck, very lightweight) I decided to take the plunge and am glad I did. It's a beauty and the Burnt Apple finish is amazing. The electrics to me, sound a lot warmer than previous Rays and with the treble rolled pretty much all the way down, no boost in the mids and bass pretty-much all the way up, it sounds like a modern P bass. It's effortless to play too.

Here's mine: a 25 year old Taylor 510. It's just about wearing in now.

For sale is a gorgeous 2015 Ibanez SRFF805 Fanned Fret 5 String bass with an Ibanez shaped ABS Case. It is a super bit of kit but just not being used and isn't likely to be used for the foreseeable. The "fanning" isn't as severe as say, a Dingwall and goes for 35.5" on the B string to 34" on the G. It's supremely comfortable with a super-low action and the B is (as they say) piano-like and very defined. The 3 band Eq is wonderful too, as are the Bart pickups. It really delivers a great range of sounds. It's super light too at under 9lbs. This took me approximately 2 minutes to adapt to and it is easily the best 5 stringer I've played. Overall condition is excellent but it does have a few marks that I've photographed and the most noticeable are above the neck pickup where someone has anchored their thumb. I say noticeable, although I didn't notice it until I'd taken the photos. I'm looking for £680. Specs: SRFF5 for Fanned 5pc Jatoba/Bubinga neck 901.7mm/35.5" scale at 5th string, 64.0mm/34.0" scale at 1st string Ash body Rosewood fretboard Medium frets Mono-rail V bridge Bartolini® BH1 pickups Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band eq, w/Eq bypass switch (passive tone control on treble pot), & Mid frequency switch BKS Cosmo black hardware Part of the limited Bass Workshop.

Help for more information please......
Old Horse Murphy replied to mikebass456's topic in Bass Guitars
I think you're right. I definitely recall him putting one together and selling it on here. @molan is your man to confirm though. Barrie was part owner of the much missed Bass Gear -
@PainyI've just realised from the video link in your signature that your guitarist doesn't have a stadium-sized amp stack behind him. It is in fact, the door to the Gents' toilet. And there was me thinking "bloody guitarists...."
