1. If a punter tries to talk to you mid-song, lick their face.
2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F4qzPbcFiA
3.
I can't thank you enough for this!
+1
4. He's rather good isn't he. What album(s) would you recommend?
5. I remember this place, and also had the t-shirt! I recall also having another one that said 'Bass Players Do It Deeper'. There were quite a few good music shops in that area at the time. Those were the days etc.
6. Either Burn or Highway Star for me.
7. When I first started playing we could get a four piece band and all our gear in a Fiesta. Wasn't comfy, though. I loved my C-Max, and could get my gear and a full drum kit in the back with the seats down. My Allegro estate was also awesome.
8. Just bought a TC Cab from Pat. Great guy, and a pleasure to deal with. Many thanks Pat
9. I also noticed that bit of unfortunate editing! I personally get round this problem by always playing really badly. This ensures that I am left alone.
10. Very good, but still prefer the original by Fleur East
11. Will also miss the website and radio station. This seems like bad news for the genre as a whole.
12. Very impressive. I like it. Are you the lovechild of Cliff Burton and Stuart Hamm?
13.
you shouldn't have to adjust the EQ to make it sound the way you want it? I've heard people moaning about playing the Jazz bass on two pickups full and getting lost in the mix... no surprise if you essentially have a very scooped sound and the rest of the band is prominent on lows/highs so you're directly competing rather than fitting in. That gets solved by changing the sound... different pickup balance (adjusting heights slightly differently also has a big effect on how scooped the sound is to start with), different EQ. I don't think the Stingray is that different a case.
The point I was trying to make was that to make the G string more prominent I had to dial in a tone I didn't really want! I also don't think that it was my amp/speaker as I had used various basses with the same set up for 25 years. I'm not slagging of Stingrays, though. In every other respect I really miss mine.
14. I parted company with my Stingray for this reason. I read that it's an issue with the electronics - I would definitely agree with this as acoustically it was fine. Adjusting pick up height didn't appear to help me. Adjusting the EQ helped a bit - but you shouldn't have to do that. Playing with a pick helped a bit - so possibly a technique issue, but again a compromise you shouldn't have to make. In the end I lost patience and went back to Fenders. A great bass in all other respects though.
15. Chris recently bought a speaker cabinet from me. I can echo the above comments about him being a great guy, making the whole transaction simple by coming to collect, and the impressive facial hair! Cheers Chis - hope you have fun with Amanda!
16. Attic storage never harmed mine - and they were up there for years. Maybe I was lucky though.
17. Thanks for the Heads Up. The BoG album always made me feel that Jimi had so much more to give. The only other artist I feel like that about is Jeff Buckley (Hmm this could turn into a whole separate thread...)
18. Once a punter was screaming right in my face, so I gave him a friendly 'tap' with my bass (a Kubicki Ex Factor). He loved it.
19.
Like the guy that wants to talk to you while your playing, I have a rule. No eye contact and ignore him. Blue
This is a pet hate of mine, particularly as I can't hear them, so I tend to mouth "I can't *effing* hear you". Things took a turn for the worse at a recent gig, when the punter responded by typing his request onto his phone. I then said "I can't read that - I'm 47". The next time someone does this to me I'm going to lick their face. I'll let you know how this pans out.
