1. It's no more barmy than Ibanez putting a handle on the Jem guitars. I personally prefer a strap as I only have two hands.
2. A fascinating read. Thanks for posting.
3. That's hilarious - but at the same time quite a good idea. Where's my drill...
4. After reading some of the other threads about the John East J-Retro I decided to get one for my Jazz bass. The results are amazing. It even sounds significantly better than it did before in passive mode! I now have everything I could possibly need in one bass. I'm a very happy boy.
5. Maybe they did Ashes to Ashes straight after Under Pressure and she is having a little rest. She is amazing, though. And so is this guy - guitarists who play bass, eh!
6. What's going on here? Gail Ann Dorsey (regular bass player at that time) is playing rhythm guitar.

Yamaha BBs
they only do them with rosewood boards,
I had this done to my BB1100S: Possibly featuring in the for sale section shortly.
8. I generally find myself stage left, but it can be a pain in more complicated numbers as you are looking away from the rest of the band. I am currently in a band with a left handed drummer, so may make an appeal for stage right.
9. I totally agree. Have seen far too many bands end their main set without doing their big hit. Pulp and Common People springs immediately to mind. Also I don't think that Eddie comes out until Maiden's encore now either. I wasn't implying that Eddie was gay BTW.
10. I like the way they put the Ricky at No.1 and then have an interview with Geddy Lee in which he basically says that the Jazz is much better.
11. Mark King or Flea?
12. Thanks for the replies guys. I'll probably go for the pickups first as I want to try them with the S-1 switch on the bass. Less outlay as well. However, as I'm also thinking about rationalising down to one bass the John East may soon follow to provide more versatility. Cheers
13. I have recently read other posts about the John East retro Jazz pre-amp and different replacement pickups (SD quarter pounders appear to be about the most popular). I am considering some mods to my Jazz bass and was wondering whether the pickups would still be required if I went for the pre amp. What do you think?
14. You either wrote the music you play or you didn't. It's as simple as that. I have played in numerous originals and covers bands and am now rehearsing for a Bowie tribute. I didn't write any of the songs, so its all the same to me.
15. The tort goes well with the carpet. I also think white pearl.
16. Cheers Muzz Enjoy the bass.
17. Just finished reading the book. Loved it. Seems like a top bloke.
18. I am looking to sell my USA Standard Jazz Bass, bought new from the Bass Centre in 2004 as a back-up bass. As a result it has only been gigged twice, but I use it regularly for practicing at home. It is all original apart from a Hipshot D-tuner, is in excellent condition, and has the S-1 switch. It comes complete with the original moulded case and unused accessory pack. I am looking for £500. I would prefer not to post it, but would be happy to meet you half way if Essex is a bit of a trek. Here are some photos:
19. Thanks. TIM? now I'm really confused. Who's going to spill the beans?
20. Apologies in advance if I'm being a bit dense here. I'm intending on putting one of my Jazz basses up for sale on the marketplace, but I have one question that the guidance notes don't really help with. What does BUMP mean? Is there anything else I should know before I proceed? Thanks
21. Started a band at school without any musical knowledge. Eventually got a bass to prevent myself from being kicked out.
22.
Ooo, I like the look of that, very nice, here's mine with the same strap locks,
That picture brings back some memories! How old is that one? The body shape looks a bit more rounded off than mine.
23. Just wanted to share this. Apologies for the grainy photos. I bought 'Be Be' in 1987 because it looked a bit like the pink one that Billy Sheehan had. Over the next few years it underwent various mods, including: - brass/bone nut - OBL pickups - Schaller bridge - D-tuner - Pickup selector replaced with pan switch After buying a Kubicki bass in 1992, I had the frets taken out of this one, realised I couldn't play fretless and put it in the loft. Fast forward to the present day. Mike Walsh has put a new maple fretboard on it and given it a general spruce up. I am chuffed to bits.
24.
More than anything, I find Wolstenholme's material very fun to play. He's no bass god or virtuoso, but he knows how to write strong, inventive and very energetic parts which compliment the band really well. Top notch player in my opinion.
I agree that he's top notch, but would say that he is also a bass god. He may not be a Victor Wooten* but has definitely sold more records, played to more people and probably inspired many more to start playing. I have gigged Hysteria and New Born. Great fun but totally relentless and hurt like hell. *or insert the virtuoso player of your choice
25. After playing bass for a few months, I decided to play something to my mum that I thought was impressive. Afterwards all she said was "try playing with your mouth closed".
