1. Finally - Here's a picture: It has had the following modifications: OBL pickups, pickup selector replaced with pan switch, schaller bridge, brass and bone nut, hipshot d-tuner, and a de-fret.
2.
You used to be able to get stuff from Halfords for polishing car bumpers ( chrome ones) called Autosol? or am I thinking of anusol? PS I 've just checked with google, it is Autosol it's £5.99
I'll be especially careful that I don't get the two confused. Many thanks
3. I have an old Yamaha BB1100s that I bought in 1986, which has been in it's case for about 15 years. I had the frets taken out in the early 90s, and soon realised that I was no Jaco! Anyway I have now decided to sell it. It still plays well and is still in tune(!), but some of the chrome hardware has lost its shine. Can this be restored (if so what products do you recommend), or has the shine gone for good? Also, are there any other maintenance tips you could pass on before I put this on e-bay? Cheers (and apologies to those of you who thought this thread was going to be about something else)
4. RIP As part of the Kinks he had a massive influence on rock music as we know it. I didn't realise just how much they had done until I got the Kinks best of CD.
5. Works for me. Popped in there on Saturday. I'm now feeling very GASsy.
6. I always really liked the bass sound on Superman by Black Lace... ...I'll get me coat.
7. +1 for Victor as Yoda. Guitarists would be Stormtroopers, because they're all the same.
8. After reading an earlier thread I turned the smile upside down on my SWR and really enjoyed 'the mids'. After reading this thread I put everything flat for last Saturday's gig. Really liked that too. I still sound like me, though.
9. I have been misinformed by BGM! If Mike is still doing repairs, I'll definitely want him to give my second Jazz Bass a Bad Ass! Cheers
10. I'm after one as well. They are shown on the Bass Centre website, but they seem to be permanently out of stock. Mike at Zoot bored some holes into a badass II for me a few years back, which works a treat. I don't think he does repairs any more though.
11. I would agree with Flea, although it's not as clear-cut as the other categories which were all no-brainers IMO. Glad Peter Hook didn't get it - his playing makes my skin crawl.
12. I occasionally used to break an E when I played a Kubicki. Luckily I always had a set of 'boilys' in the gig bag. The Kubicki was a fine instrument but changing the strings was a real pain.
13. I have had my EQ in a big smile for years. At last night's rehearsal I turned it upside down. I'm really loving my sound now, and what's more the rest of the band love it too!
14. An octaver and bass big muff works for me
15. From my experience I would say to just keep going & play every day. Also, if you gig standing up, rehearse standing up. When I started playing with my current band it felt like I had been hitting my hands with a hammer by the end of a gig. I realised just the other week that it doesn't hurt anymore.
16. My black jazz came with a black pickguard. The sunburst one came with white parchment. Couldn't be happier with both of them. I'm occasionally tempted by a Phil Lynott style mirror, but then remind myself that I don't have a roadie to polish it.
17. Hi all I have been playing bass for 25 years, mostly in rock covers bands, and currently with this one: www.therubb.co.uk I have two USA Standard Jazz Basses, an SWR rig and a handfull of effects. There's lots more in the loft, but more about that later. I have been browsing Basschat for the last few months and thought it was about time I got more involved. I look forward to chatting with you all. Heathy
