Completely disagree. He was great with AC/DC at the Olympic Stadium a few years back. Aside from nailing the songs, he looked like he was living the dream. I guess this post is about replacement singers, because (like it or not) the singer is almost always the focal point for an audience and everyone else is essentially a backing musician. A change in a high profile frontman can be hard for some fans to take, but - so what. And just for the record, I think that Adam Lambert is awesome with Queen.

Sounds to me like he might be doing you a favour. Part of the challenge of that solo for me is coming back in with the low F on time.

This song is an ongoing challenge for me. The latest change I am making is to stop slapping it altogether (after 30+ years, I've finally accepted that slapping is not for me). There are two bass lines in many of the verses so this allows me to take more of a best of both worlds approach. But if I fall flat on my @rse at the next gig I'll probably change my mind again.

I think the open notes are there (apart from the open E). I thought they were ghost notes until I slowed the track down to 50% on You Tube. I really like the cross string approach - so thanks for posting this. Always reassuring to me that Paul Simon's bass player messes it up live. I think it's important to remain loyal to that!

I'm afraid not. That is just as much hard work.

No need to hide that new purchase anymore

In the 90s a friend of mine had over £10ks worth of 'borrowed' gear. He and his partner split up soon afterwards. -
Looks like the musicman now has a tone knob.

Another one! While I was waiting to go in to a job interview, a couple of guys who worked there recognised me from a gig I had played in that town. When the interviewer turned up, she saw me in conversation and getting on really well with a couple of current employees. Maybe it made a difference - I got the job!

I was once in a department store and a guy came up to me saying he recognised me from a gig that was around 15 years prior. He went on to say how much he enjoyed it, and listed off several of the songs we did. It did feel good.

It used to go down well, even without the right effects (I think I just used a big muff). Need to watch the tempo though. I also played it depping with another band, far too fast and although I could keep up it sounded terrible! I spent a lot of practice time playing the Hysteria riff with a metronome to build up right hand stamina. We also did New Born, which took even more work. Knights is another stamina song - we never did it live though because the singer could never find the first note... Good luck!

Fixed.

What about 'The Bubinga Five'? If the other band members are not on BC, then they'll never know!

Rock is finished - it has nothing more to say!

It's only dead in terms of providing an income to Bobby Gillespie! Similar to why Gene Simmons says the same thing. The 'industry' as he knew it is over. The music, not so much. -
What is your favourite Bond theme?
Heathy replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
Nobody Does it better This was the first Bond film I saw in the Cinema - at Great Yarmouth. Afterwards we went into a local department store, which had the Lotus Esprit, and some other models from the film on display. I have always thought that there is a high correlation between the quality of Bond theme songs and the quality of the film. Anyone else? -
Slap Happy Chappy? No, Cos I'm Crappy :(

I have recently made the decision to give up playing slap altogether. It has taken up an inordinate amount of practice time over the years, so I suppose it's just not for me. Added to that, I struggle to actually hear myself live when slapping. The chorus to Peg is really hard to play fingerstyle though, so I may change my mind again before my next gig! -
I had some problems in the early 90s. Went to a chiropractor who sorted me out - apparently some of the smaller bones in my wrist were out of alignment. I believe the problems were a combination of 100 press ups a day, 'upside-down' writing style, and poor bass technique. I wore a wrist support for a while, which was mainly as a reminder that I needed to address these issues. I did and 25+ years later I'm still fine. So - not nearly as serious as CTS, but I hope the above is of some use.

I feel I should point out that this rule only applies to cats, so don't try this in your local music shop. I learned this lesson the hard way.
-
Really enjoying this. Do you incorporate runs like this into your playing? One more thing - What's the chord on the backing track?
-
The down side of playing stage right is that one drummer I played with used to really whack a china cymbal he had on that side of his kit. I'm still hearing it 25 years later!
-
In recent years I have always ended up on stage left. Although I think stage right would be better as I would be able to see the neck of my bass and the drummer at the same time.

Fender Precision American Deluxe – Natural/Maple - **SOLD**
Heathy posted a topic in Basses For Sale
For sale - my American Deluxe Precision in natural finish with maple fingerboard. P/J pickup configuration. 21 Fret. 3 band active EQ with Active/Passive switch. Weighing in at 9lbs. The bass dates to 2011 (based on the serial number), and is still in excellent condition with all original parts. There is one ding on the top edge of the body, which I only recently discovered by feel, and couldn't capture in a photograph. Looking for £950 £850! Price includes spare tort pickguard, original Fender hard case +candy, and two planet waves straps with strap locks (if you want them!). Inspired by a thread on this forum I recently considered converting this bass to passive, so will also throw in the custom pickguard I bought for this project. Both additional pickguards are from WD Music. Collection preferred, or buyer to arrange shipping (I am based in North Essex). What famous musicians death most shocked you
Heathy replied to dmccombe7's topic in General Discussion
For me, the most shocking was Zappa, Bowie, and more recently Keith Flint. I also always feel a sense of loss when listening to Hendrix and Jeff Buckley, even though they both passed way before I was aware of their music. A kind of 'what might have been' kind of thing...
