I think the guitarist's brother Martin has taken over on bass now- I played a couple of gigs with him in my mid-90's covers band days.

interesting- it looks a lot like the Fender precision deluxe Dave Ellefson used! (pickguard, maple board) but with 2 P pickups like the Warwick Buzzard.

Rondo do a few SX/Brice short-scale P, J and Jazzmaster types- [url="http://www.rondomusic.com/bassguitars4.html"]http://www.rondomusic.com/bassguitars4.html[/url] the Dean EvoXM bass is 24 fret 30in scale. I've got the guitar version and it has excellent access at the top of the neck because of the angled neck joint.

Dave Ellefson was saying something along those lines in a Peavey youtube clip I saw the other day- that you get a kind of delay to the attack of the note- not good for speed metal playing.. also John Paul Jones preferred solid state amps too.

I've never understood the logic behind Ashdown putting eq sliders and rotary knobs together- ie. a rotary knob for the lowest frequency, then 2 sliders, then a mid knob, then 2 sliders, then a highs knob. it just makes it a drag to find a workable sound in a rehearsal studio. dunno what the fuss about Darkstar pickups was either. I suppose they look quite cool.

actually on my Warmoth the body came with the bridge holes pre-drilled- but the body wood was so tough, and the screws supplied with the Badass so soft that 2 of them sheared off (one came out with pliers, the other I had to drill out), with not that much force applied- I then sourced decent screws which went in okay.

I broke a couple of Badass bridge screws when I was putting together my Warmoth P - hard ash is tough stuff.

on these "who's the best at X" blogs you always get "I can't believe no one has mentioned Y- are you all deaf, dumb, blind and idiotic?" comments. bleh.

funny how they chose not to put a dot marker at the 19th fret. Eko also used the wheel trussrod adjuster in the 70's. ironically EB Musicman and Peavey use it now on much more expensive instruments.

I think the RB5 neck is wider than any Fender-style 5string neck Warmoth currently offer, so custom building's probably the way to go.

that neck's interesting- looks strangely un-aged- yet it's very 70's copy-style in construction- 3 piece, with a gibson-style nut, and a wheel trussrod adjuster at the body end. you wouldn't find a new replacement neck like that. maybe the machineheads have been replaced at some point.

anyone remember that band World of Leather which had 15 or something guitarists? a blatant gimmick to get them press attention, which worked, for a while. can't remember any music they made. I think the singer became a tv presenter.

on disc 2 of SKOM there's a spiel by one of Metallica's management (Cliff Bernstein?) which basically says it all- they've got millions in the bank, they've got their wives & kids to spend time with and beautiful homes to live in, car/art collections etc. - what motivates them anymore to go out and make angry thrash metal? Dave Mustaine's still bitter about getting fired from Metallica, and Megadeth being no.2, so that motivates him, like a hare he can never catch, but Hetfield and Ulrich haven't got any incentive. they've done it all. I just watched on youtube Dave Navarro interviewing Mustaine recently (Navarro comes across as a lousy guitarist), where Mustaine says of Phil Towel- "they referred to him as "The Connector"- I saw him more as "the account drainer"

yep, the Attitude is passive. I've only tried the old 5string version, which was nice, but a couple of people here have the top of the range 4's.

you could say the Yamaha Attitude is a P clone too.

I've got a Dearmond Jetstar Special in bits, that I've hacked around as I could never get on with the unwieldy body shape- it never balanced the long-scale neck and made the first fret a long stretch to reach. I'd like to put the neck on a new body that looks retro but balances properly, but the problem is the narrow neck heel- more like a guitar neck width. I might have to build a new body from scratch.

keep one bass- you'll probably get a call out of the blue to fill in for another band's bassist. and you'll need it if you ever do demoing at home.
