This is his second helix. I think he really likes the idea of it but got on so well with his kemper that he struggles with anything different. He loves how easy it is to put patches in order on tye helix for every gig. He's an absolute nightmare with gear though. I've never known anyone turn over so much stuff. He had two St Vincents until the start of May. He traded a black stealth one for a Tom Anderson but now he's traded that for a USA custom schecter and I reckon that'll be gone soon because he doesn't like the single coil pickups. The St Vincent suits him tho cos it was designed for a girls body and to be fair it sounds great. I'm a massive Musicman fan tho so am pretty biased.

Been gigging with a helix and IEM's for 2 years now. I love it for bass and, although I initially thought it was overkill, it has more than paid for itself. If i change basses mid set then I just hit the patch for that bass. I can change rig completely with the touch of a footswitch. The routing options are the best bit for me with the ability to split signals and run them in parallel applying effects only where needed. I use far more mild overdrive now by splitting at 800hz and only adding grit to the higher frequency. Makes for such a great fat but detailed sound out front. Myself and both guitarists are all on helix now (yes EBS_freak even Jamie the gear tart has come around now). Worth every penny imo.

I have a helix where you have a di. Essentially the same thing tho and love the simplicity.

Another very happy UE6 user here. The other guys in my band all use universals and you'll regularly see them with one in and one out. I use a decent wireless system and have never once felt the urge to remove a monitor mid gig. I had UE900s to start with but custom moulds are a massive step up. I also would recommend using the custom iem company. Paul will make sure everything is just right for you.

I'm turning into an insomniac after band rehearsals!!

I don't listen to music on the way home from gigs prefering radio 5 or something. If i wake up thinking about stuff I need to do next day then I write it down on a pad I have next to the bed. Makes me feel like it's already partly sorted. Usually when I read it in the morning I laugh at how trivial and insignificant it is. It's crazy how important silly stuff seems at 3am. -
Herco flex 50s for me. I find really rigid picks harder to play with. Horses for courses tho so go try a few

How are you cutting? 2 sheets will probably be enough for 4/5 1x10 cabs if they're full 8ft by 4t panels.
-
This was my understanding too. I also think that reverse engineering a box to try and find driver specs could be a lot of work only to find that there is no readily available driver with those exact specs. That said, I'm more than happy to spend a few evenings trawling the Web to see if anything turns up.
-
Thanks Phil that's really helpful advice. I think what I'll do first is get the measurements of the inside of the cab and the details of the port along with a picture of the driver and report back here. If anyone is able to help me work out which drivers work then I'll start looking. If not I might consider asking for help designing a lightweight 210 based around a pair of nice lightweight drivers (maybe faital pros) and see if I can maybe utilise the parts (grill, handles, crossover etc) because I also love the look of the powerhouse cabs. We'll see. Ots not mega urgent as I use in ears gigging but it would be nice to maybe do something that complements the 1x12 build thread. Essentially I want a cab wide enough for a valve head. I would have built a fearful 15/6 but am absolutely stumped for the crossover components in the UK.
-
Yeah it's a tough one now. I paid £225 for the cab but only played it at low volume at the sellers house. I know he is a genuine guy and hasn't used the cab muxh so im certain he was unaware. Obviously I have no way to prove to him that it wasn't me that damaged it so I'm kinda stuck with it. I bought it because I have had one of these before and I love the sound. I'd love to be able to get hold of the specs of the driver to try and get a matched pair of new drivers but all I know is that they are 16ohm 300w units. I have the building chops (Im a trained cabinet maker and was a bfm builder for a while) but I've not designed a cab before. In reality I should probably just write it off. Whatever I do I'll have spent more than its worth.

Thanks agedhorse. Oreste just came back to me but they want £216 + vat for a single 10 inch driver. Going to rip cab apart for parts and build my own cab based around specs of better drivers. That's crazy money for a fairly low quality single 10.

No response from Oreste, the westside distribution main phone number / email or Mesa Boogie themselves. Is there any way I can find the driver specs?
-
Absolute star - thank you Beedster, very much appreciated.

Anyone know who to contact in the UK to get a replacement driver for a mesa boogie powerhouse 2x10. I picked up a fairly old used cab yesterday and on further inspection it turns out one of the drivers has seized. Is there a UK distributor? Cheers

This. The XR18 is a cracking little mixer only let down by the WiFi. A cheap dual band router not only solves connection issues it also allows you to secure your connection with a password.

We've had to pull all of the R-Kelly and Rolf Harris songs from our set.

I recently joined a fairly busy band doing weddings and private events. They're great guys and so far it's been a lot of fun. All the work is divided pretty fairly amongst the four members. We also run a little rehearsal studio in Rushden, Northamptonshire. As I live the furthest away I don't get asked to do much with day to day running of the studio and that suits me fine. I have however been given the job of producing a weekly vlog that shows what we do. My only qualification for the role is that I own a decent camera and a couple of gopros bit I'm definitely up for the learning process that will be involved. What I'm after is any advice and feedback. The aim more than anything is to share the interesting parts of what we do, allow people who have / might book us get to know us and how it works and really just make something interesting. We have agreed that we should try and find a different theme each week so we aren't making essentially the same thing over and over and we need to keep it simple enough that it doesn't affect performances. If you want to see what we've done so far then this is my latest effort. I already learnt I'm going to need to use a high pass filter when using footage taken whilst driving lol.

A drummer friend of mine is going to order some new iems with Lugs. He's based in Northampton and is looking for a place to get his impressions done. Any recommendations as to where he can get them done properly?

Anxieties with joining a ready made band - just me?
mrtcat replied to bigsmokebass's topic in General Discussion
Been through this recently. In Jan I joined a really established band with a LOT of gigs booked which will essentially allow me to gig for a living. They gave me a list of 70 songs but broke it down into three sections (1.Always Play, 2.Often play, 3.Rarely play.) so I worked on everything in order of priority. Yeah it was daunting but turns out that the set list rarely changes that much and we are only now starting to add new songs now we have half a dozen gigs together under the belt. I found the learning less daunting than the whole "being the new kid" thing and actually used it to take my mind off the fact that I was about to embark on a whole load of work with guys that were essentially complete strangers. One month in and all is going well and I certainly don't feel like an outsider anymore. -
Some music just sounds best in the car!

I visit the Pro-Ac production facility every six weeks with my day job and have spent plenty of time in their demo room. Absolutely glorious speakers and without doubt way better than anything you could recreate in a car. Top class gear. -
Yep we use click for a small selection of songs every gig where we use backing track. All of us on in ears and it's so easy. Drummer absolutely needs to be able to hear both the click and the track and it really helps if everyone can. If a drummer can't work with a click he or she simply needs to practice more. I always practice bass parts either to a click or a backing track so I'd definitely expect a drummer to be doing similar. Musicians who can't keep time don't belong in bands imo.

Only on the day I auditioned thankfully. My PSM300 is now in the Fraudio rack and I have a stereo feed which makes me very happy. They're really great guys who are fully on board with IEM's so I'll be slowly selling them the idea of custom moulds and ditching the PSM200s 😉

Looks killer. Sadly wouldn't work for me because: 1. I'd need about a dozen of them because we're all on wireless and swap places / run around on stage regularly. 2. I'm already about 12 inches taller than Jamie and Liam so they won't thank me for standing on a raised platform lol. That said I'd still be tempted because it looks so cool.
