Just arrived and i've had a go with them. They definitely make a difference to the isolation and there is a noticeable improvement in the low end. They're a little uncomfortable when you first put them in but that soon goes. I'll be interested to see how they fare for a 2 hr gig. My wife suggested building up a layer of clear acrylic nail polish around the same part of the iems that you wrap the comply wraps around as a more permanent solution. Not sure I have the bottle to do something like that tho.

I dropped in on my way up the M40 last week. I needed strings but also had £2k in my bass fund pot so thought I'd check out what toys they had. They had the strings I wanted but seemed so keen to usher me out of the door that I didn't even look at basses. Instead I've spent most of it on here lol. I love the idea of the shop and have had great experiences there before but it just mystifies me how the service can be so up and down. 21 pages of divided opinion and still going says it all really for me.

I'm on it! Will report back after trying the wraps.

That's really helpful info thank you. I might give custom iems a shout and see what they think. I'm sitting at my desk now and just put my iems in. If I click my fingers gently I can hear it pretty clearly at probably 50% of the volume I'd hear without them in. Maybe I just need to stop cleaning my ears and let the wax build up lol.

Pushing them slightly does definitely make a difference. I had the impressions done at the custom iem company so am a bit disappointed that the fit isn't perfect.

@EBS_freak have you any thoughts on silicone custom moulds (like ACS) over regular solid plastic ones in terms of isolation? I am relatively happy with what I have but there is definitely still noticeable bleed of noise in, especially when drummer goes off on one on a smaller stage.

J&D 1975 Jazz bass for sale in sea foam green. Bought as a low value bass to see me through 5 gigs in Italy last summer as I didn't want to ship anything too expensive. I changed the headstock decal to make it look like a fender at the request of the producer of the shows I was in. Upgrades are: Entwhistle JBX pickups Black Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles Black Wilkinson tuners Black bell plate Kiogon wiring loom The tuners needed to be trimmed a little to fit but other than that it's a great bass. It sounds great with a really meaty growl and if you like sea foam green with black hardware you'll love the look. This would make a brilliant first bass for someone learning and I'll include shipping inside mainland UK for £100 or you can collect for £90. I'm in South Northants nr Silverstone so 10 mins from J15a of M1 and 20 mins from J10 of M40. You're welcome to come and try it here.

I run my own pest control business. I spend half the week out on customers' premises and the rest in my office. This is the wall in said office and what you can't see is the drum kit and piano.

A used yamaha bb1024 would be my first choice.

Are they a pub band or a function band? Can you see from their website / Facebook whether they're booked up with gigs in the near future? If they are a function band or really busy then it's possibly a bit more understandable that they need someone who can cope with learning lots of stuff quickly. If they're a pub band and don't have many gigs booked then they're just being daft.

Yep, he posted pics of the rehearsal on his facebook page last week so was definitely him.

I've been really very impressed with the kz iems but wouldn't take them over my UE900s. The custom moulds make them so much more comfortable and far better at isolation. I'd be reluctant to get kz's reshelled for the obvious reason that it's a lot of money to have potentially cheap parts put into a custom she'll. Bet they'd sound great tho.

Really enjoyed Beck's set. Great band and they look like they're having fun.

Tips for taming volume of acoustic drums?
mrtcat replied to Gottastopbuyinggear's topic in General Discussion
Sounds sensible. If the whole idea of having a hybrid kit is to use it when volume control is an issue then you're not going to be pushing huge volumes at the gigs where you use it. The 735s are really very good and will comfortably cope with a full band, including hybrid kit at reasonable levels. -
I'd tell them to get a dep and hire a PA. I founded our band but would have no issue with them gigging without me with a suitable dep. I use deps to cover others when gigs come in that someone can't make. That said we run the band as a business and we all depend on the income to a certain extent. For that very reason I wouldn't allow them to go out with a botched lineup (ie keys player playing bass) and I would be offended if they simply expected to use my PA without offering an equal share of the gig money to me and guaranteeing to pay for any breakages - and that's with guys I really trust already.

Tips for taming volume of acoustic drums?

I essentially picked up a yamaha gigmaster kit for about £60 (gumtree - parents desperate to sell a poorly thought out xmas gift lol) and a yamaha electronic kick, hihat and ride cymbal from ebay for £55. The module I use is a Megadrum which I use to trigger Superior Drummer on a laptop. To convert the toms I used some cone triggers i picked up from ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-pak-drum-trigger-replacement-DIY-foam-cone-Convertible-Percussions-/152148530322 They're nothing more complex than a piezo and a little foam cone but thery're really very good. I followed this technique The cymbals are pretty simple with two piezos on each, some thick clear 3m sticky back plastic (the stuff some people put on their cars to prevent stone chips) and a little plastic box inside which I wire the piezos to a jack. There are some far more advanced ways of doing this to allow cymbal choking etc. Try this for an idea (sorry the guy is pretty annoying but its a good demo) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npnuaguzq6Y Any questions just ask. I'm really looking into a 2box drummit 5 module so we can work live without the laptop but it might mean a bit of work needed on the cymbal set up and a better hihat system. More often than not, if we have to use it for gigs we use a real hihat and ride cymbal as they are so much better than any of the edrum conversions I've been able to sort. -

If he's not prepared to learn how to control his volume then you could get hold of a cheap kit and convert it to electronic. Total spend was about £250 for mine and it looks great and works well. All from eBay except the silent stroke skins. Even the brass cymbals are electronic. -
This is common here too (Northamptonshire) and imo is actually a sign of more sensible landlords. Too many pubs either just can't afford a full band or they're not big enough to cope with the volume. Some pub bands are great at getting the volume right but most are really way too loud with people still insistent on loud guitar amps and bass amps to get their sound. If you want to play these places as a bass player then either get involved with a band who are happy to work with electric drums and no backline or alternatively work on your bvs and sing a few lead parts so you become an indispensable member of the team. Of course there are exceptions. Two pubs round our way have stopped having full bands because they and their punters are sick of hearing the same old classic rock songs every week lol.
