Don't think it's a negative stance at all but yes it's definitely my opinion. I love Chic but it just seems crass and needless to me for him to stand there telling everyone how successful he is. I'd put him in the same ballpark as Stevie Wonder in terms of brilliance but Stevie Wonder doesn't seem to feel the need to big himself up.

I love Chic and Jerry Barnes is absolutely top drawer. I just can't stand it when Nile Rodgers starts banging on about just how wonderful and successful he is. We all know that he is but its pretty cringeworthy watching him sing his own praises.

As a drummer you won't need to be too far off your best before it genuinely affects your performance. As a bass player it's easier to step back and just hold it down. Drumming requires far more physical input.

This is why a contract is a good idea. Most solo artists will have them because they don't have the luxury of spreading the cost in such a situation. We always use them and I'm sitting on my sofa with the wife this evening having been paid £380 for a gig that was cancelled by the venue tonight. They had a small fire this morning which has left them without power tonight. They have honoured the contract that says they pay the full fee for a cancellation within 48hrs. They'll claim on insurance and we still get paid. Our agreement says that we will either find a dep if we have a member sick or try to find a replacement band. If we can't do either we will provide a DJ for 50% of agreed fee (there's four of us that can do this) or find a dj and cover the fee (will never happen as we can pretty much all dj). Contracts can save all manor of issues because everyone knows where they stand.

Guitarists (or any other musician), no matter how talented, who can't see the value of volume control on stage are lacking the professionalism required for a serious working band. The band leader needs to do his / her job and deal with it. Sadly it's occasionally the band leader that's the main offender which makes it difficult to address. If i was in your situation I'd be thinking about how much better and more saleable the band would be if they could grow up and control their volume.

This is exactly how I see it too. Especially in a Classic Rock covers band where the average punter is expecting the usual suspects. Like ive said previously, I've heard lots of bands say we're going to do some of the less frequently covered classic rock songs but ultimately they have to concede and fill tye set list with the same songs everyone else does. Sadly that's what people want.
-
Isn't that the point of a classic rock covers band - to play the usual suspects? I've seen soooo many "Classic Rock" bands say "we're not going to do the same old covers every other CR cover band does" who ultimately end up doing all the usual suspects because they eventually realise that that's all that punters who go to see CR bands really want.

5 weeks into the wait for this. Carbon rods in neck, Aguilar 60s j pickups, swamp ash body, passive electronics (I have an easy j retro sitting here waiting to go in) , luminlays. Looking forward to it.

Make sure you have the latest firmware upgrade installed. Then think about what you want from it (outputs to pa or amp or both etc). Then you can start building from there.
-
You can request features like that and if there's enough interest they'll make it happen. Most of the recent new amps that were added at the last firmware upgrade were as a result of being requested.

Doesn't sound digital to me. I've always steered well away from multi effects units because I always found the basic sounds poor. The Helix just sounds great and completely realistic. I wouldn't use it in conjunction with an amp but with an FRFR speaker it floors anything I've previously owned. That includes some of the most sought after rigs out there.

Skin Tyson. He looked like he was using it with all his guitars and his banjo.

I saw Robert Plant at Symphony Hall Birmingham last night and the first thing I noticed was his guitarist's helix on the stage.
-
I've got a fusion bag. It was originally designed for a Dj controller but fits the helix like a glove. Its got so many cool extras like a zip in/out laptop bag, headphones bag, endless pockets etc. Build quality is exceptional too. Doesn't have a lift off lid but there's a few dj controller cases out there that do.
-
I have used it with both an Rcf745a and Barefaced FR800s. Both are a brilliant partner for a helix. Our guitarist has also used both with a helix and prefers the FR800 for aesthetic reasons and also thought it was a bit crisper.

Ah now you see that's more like it. There's no need to not have all your fx from pedals etc going to the sound guy (in fact it would be daft not to) I was referring more to the eq from the amp head which is what the bass player will use to make it sound pleasing to his or her ears. If you send pre eq then you can adjust to your hearts content on stage without affecting the mix out front significantly. Yes digital desks have made it way easier for engineers to cope with whatever is thrown at them but if its too wooly or there's crazy boost somewhere then you're simply fighting the tone not tweaking it. When engineering i'm always happy to see a sans amp (or many of the other di pedals).

What if your sound isn't right for the venue? The room has an enormous effect on the sound of the bass and by going post EQ you are tying the sound guys hands behind his back. I've run sound for years and quite often in this situation you are left with little option other than to apply heaps of eq or drop the bass to a level so low it's barely audible just to save it from killing the mix. You can't compare it to guitar as that works in a much narrower sonic space so you have far more leeway.

Yeah I'd be bailing straight away. Too many issue too early on for me.
