1.
Gee man, that second statement is strong. I'm married, but if I made the same statement, I would certainly be alone 😢😢😢
You see, I'm with Blue on this one. My wife is absolutely fine with it and we have small children. If i commit to a band then I take that seriously. If we have a night out planned and a gig offer comes in then the night out gets moved. If i don't take the gig or at least get a dep to cover it it means that 5 other people can't earn. My wife knows that the money I earn from gigging pays for holidays, her car and other family expenses.
2.
As he was the main founder of the band and probably the leader when i joined i didn't see the point in continuing without him
The guy that started our band who led us to our first gig quit after 6 weeks. We've been together 12 yrs and have done over 900 gigs. Don't quit yet.
3. I have no time for band members who don't update their availability. I insist that all the guys in our band update the Google calendar every time they find out that they're not available for any date / dates. I do all the bookings pretty much, although everyone in the band is perfectly able to book gigs, and I always use the calendar as the guide to our availability. If someone doesn't keep it up to date and I take a booking then they either have to cancel their other plans, arrange a dep or contact the client and explain why we can't do it. If I'm going to bust my hump keeping us busy then I'm not having them mess me about. If i was in the OPs position I would be mighty hacked off but experience has taught me to sleep on things first. You also have to assess the individual member's worth to the band. If the drummer is a great player and a real asset to the band then I'd have to bite my lip but if he's nothing overly special and a serial offender I'd be inclined to give it to him straight.
4. Both Fearful and BFM designs are great. I've had both designs but currently run a fearful cab that I built myself and it's absolutely exceptional. Super light, very handsome and sounds killer.
5. Good to hear, although I was really disappointed to have bought some plectrums from SD last week, paid £2.99 for postage and it took 5 days to receive them. If they had put them in a normal envelope, bought a single first class stamp and put them in the post that day I'd have had them in less than 24hrs.
6.
Many years ago i used to play in a band with Chas's daughter Juliet on keyboards. We rehearsed in the barn/studio at his house weekly - every now and then Chas, Dave and Mickey would turn up late at night with a box of cigars, a few bottles of brandy and a pack of cards (for the ongoing poker tournament) and kick us out saying they were just going to write and record the next album. I used to hang about a bit after and watch and they were all stunning players. They would literally just lock themselves in until they were finished. We used to pile in the house after rehearsals and scoff toast and tea with the family (his wife Jo was an ex Playboy bunny girl i think) - and i remember they had a big open fireplace with a really old Precision stuffed in the corner of it right next to the flames. A lovely group of people - very grounded and unaffected by it all but fantastic company
Did they have a nice sideboard?
7.
There was a 750 going recently in the FS section which I was very tempted by, but couldn't really justify the spend, but some lucky chap snapped up a (relative) bargain. Do you still own one?
Funnily enough, that's mine in the FS section. I've had to hold it for now as there's a big delay on my Barefaced FR800s due to the drivers not being made yet so I need an amp to see me through a load of gigs in October. Really considering keeping it tho if I can raise funds elsewhere.
8. Best is an aguilar DB750, worst was an ampeg svt6 pro and most disappointing was a hartke Kilo which sounded awesome in the brief periods where it worked. Sadly a flawed design coupled with the single worst customer service I've ever experienced (and I've had a few bad experiences) left me £800 out of pocket just four months after buying it brand new.
9. The excellent MXR bass preamp and the soulfood still remain available.
10. Wow, that's a beauty and what an array of tones on tap. If I had the cash i'd seriously be considering this one.
11. I played a friend's lull precision a couple of years ago. After two minutes I handed it back and made him promise to never let me play it again. It was pretty much perfect in every way and I just haven't got the money to buy one.
12. Depends on the tops. The RCF 322s don't have an HPF option so they would be running as full range. You could then feed the power amp from the "through" output from the tops. Alternatively you could run the subs from an aux send on the desk and the tops from the main l/r out. If it were me I'd be inclined to go either all active or all passive. If you want to mix active and passive then using a basic crossover (the behringer ones mentioned above would work fine) would take the pressure off the tops.
13. At the risk of getting in trouble (although I've paid my £20 again recently) for advertising, I've got a pair of RCF art 322a tops for sale.
14. The two pros I play with are two of the nicest, most supportive and positive people I have the pleasure to know. In particular our guitarist who also does some really big gigs for some fairly big names is so humble and pure class even when we're playing those tough gigs in pokey venues with indifferent audiences.
15. Late to the party but 1 set ordered. Thanks for the heads up.
16. My Maruszyck Elwood L 5 weighs just 3.4kg (7.5lbs) and is really versatile That said, i genuinely think core strengthening and fitness could be well worth looking at first as that can improve life in general as well as your playing experience.
17.
FR800s for visual aspect?
Pretty much. And to double as pa in another project I do.
18. Agree 100%. I have been blown away by the helix and it's interface is really user friendly. I have used a POD XT before and was totally underwhelmed. I now can have a punchy gk rig for chilli Peppers songs, a fat SVT rig for rock and any combos of overdrives, distortions or other fx and even have the drive control of an amp routed to the expression pedal so I have infinite drive control under foot for when guitarist is soloing etc. It's insane and through a single RCF 745 it not only sounds really realistic it has heft that shakes the building if necessary. I've got a pair of FR800s on order for use with my rock trio now too. I think more than anything tho the cab emulation has made iems even better for bass.
19. Because old amps are seen as heavy, inefficient and electrical goods aren't generally known for getting better with age. For that reason (and quite rightly imo) old amps aren't seen as being cool or better. It is however widely accepted that some guitars sound and feel better and look cooler with a degree of "mojo" and history.
20. Having just moved to a Helix, I'm moving on some lovely pedals all of which are in great nick and come with their original boxes. 1. SOLD Future Impact 1. Approx 6 months old only used lightly in studio. Insane array of sounds, brilliant tracking (easily does low and infinite tweakability. The best synth still in production IME but not a huge amount of use to me in a 90s grunge covers band. £260 including postage. 2. SOLD EHX Bass SoulFood. Wouldn't be selling this if the helix didn't have a decent overdrive. Extremely useable in live situations and less than 6 months old. It was a definite set and forget for me. £60 including postage. 3. SOLD MXR Bass Octave Deluxe. Great octave pedal that is very well regarded. A few surface scratches but works perfectly. £90 including postage. 4. SOLD MXR Bass Preamp. Immaculate condition and a really great warm, clean and solid preamp. Used only lightly but a real get out of jail free card if amp dies and you need to go through PA. I used it when I started using in ears and stopped using backline. £110 including postage. 21. Great great cab but definitely not a lightweight. Older US version (jacks not speakons) but in good nick and works perfectly. Sounds huge and is clean, punchy, articulate and handsome. Collection only from South Northants (nr J15a M1 or J10 M40). Trial is welcome of course.
