Never ever dreamed I'd be selling this but a total change in direction with music projects has seen me move to a Helix / Barefaced setup so here we go. Best amp ever in my humble opinion. Yes its heavy but my god it can move walls and shake floors. This is in great condition and has had the once over from my local amp tech who says I'm mad for selling it. I agree but I can't afford this and the helix and BF stuff that I just splashed out on. Looking for £900 firm which includes the Aguilar Rack Bag (seen in pics) and an official Aguilar DB750 tolex covered head sleeve. I absolutely will not courier it so please don't ask. Trial is very welcome here (south Northants nr J15a of M1 and J10 of M40). Will deliver within 50 miles for free.

I use a TC spectracomp as a clean boost which subtly fattens and smoothes out the sound.
mrtcat - how you getting on since getting your ue900s into customs?
Absolutely love them. The difference that stands out the most, following their conversion to custom moulds, is the noise isolation. It makes such a huge difference to their effectiveness and now I have perfect balance in my ears and can hear all of my bandmates and my bass with absolute clarity. The service from the custom iem company was excellent and I'm now a full iem convert. So much so that I just picked up a helix and my aguilar db750 is going up for sale.

Well let's hope so. Picked up the full fat floor unit today. Already impressed through a pa cab. My aguilar DB750, Eden cab and entire pedal board will be up for sale before the end of the weekend. Looking for a pair of Barefaced FR800s now.

Is there a decent compressor for bass on the helix? I'm really tempted but I'd have to be sure that I could ditch all other pedals completely before I'd feel it would be right for me.
I love loud kick and bass... it tells you that you are at a gig... and feeling the gig through your body is something that you generally don't get at home. There is a caveat though... it has to be tight bass, not mushy bass. I'm talking about pinning the fundamental of the kick and not boosting all the mush frequencies around it.
Absolutely bang on. A bit of kick through the pa with a boost at 60hz really hits you in the chest and mixing that with the bass gives you the basis of a great gig. After all its live music and should be something you can feel as well as hear. Problem is many people don't know where to boost and cut. -
Audio interface for recording band live

Behringer X air XR18 used here: https://youtu.be/1c7haVAqMrw and here: https://youtu.be/bXwjJ_isqng And in lots of other vids we have. I think it has a really nice inherent warmth to the sound and have been really pleased with it. -
Permanently on. Fuller, fatter and more even tone without being noticeable to anyone that anything is affecting the sound.

I love depping. Keeps you sharp, plenty of networking and if a band is really good it's a buzz. If a band aren't so great it's only a short term thing. I'd be perfectly happy for a dep to cover me in my absence as long as they have a professional approach. It's very rare that a band uses a dep that they have absolutely no knowledge of IME but it can happen and can be a worry. That said most deps I know are very good at what they do and put the homework in.

99% of the time I blame the sound guy but it often depends where you are in the room. What sounds tight and punchy where the engineer is standing may be boomy mush 40 yds away from him / her. 60-65hz is where the punch is so why they seem keen to boost 30/40/50hz to stoopid levels is beyond me. -
BASS PLAYER NEEDED - Empyre, established originals rock band
mrtcat replied to Empyre's topic in Bassists Wanted
I ticked all the boxes and applied. Sadly they didn't have the decency to reply. -
I'm (not) the non tattoo'd one.

Not sure if it helps but I have a friend who is moving abroad and selling a heap of studio and pa stuff. He's open to offers on any of it and it includes a mackie pa with subs and tops. He's a top musician and a nice chap so I don't doubt the gear will be in good nick. I can easily pm you his list of gear up you want to take a look.

Funkee! - video playing basses worth from $100 to $10000
mrtcat replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
I used a J&D Jazz that i paid £65 for at a wedding in Italy on Friday. Didn't want to take anything valuable for obvious reasons but was blown away by how good it sounded in the recorded audio. Sadly my playing is nowhere near the standard of the chap in the OP's video. -
Many congratulations! Lovely pics too.

It's a lovely bass part. Did some work with a BB tribute act a few years back and she caught the Katy and who's making love were the two standout songs for me although there's not really a bad song in a BB set.

I always want to know the following: What's in your set? Who's responsible for what? What is your marketing strategy? What's in the diary already? What is the availability of other members like? How often do you rehearse? How often do you gig / want to gig? How much per gig? What type of venue do you play? Any band that rehearses more often than it gigs is a no go. Bands that do social clubs week in week out are binned. The other points are all considered in context with the overall feeling and picture. I've done full time gigging for a living but am now self employed as gigging doesn't give enough mental stimulation for it to be my only work.

I was kitesurfing in Greece last summer and there was a greek guy who was clearly a really talented rider. One of the days was really light wind and I was about the only guy to be able to ride because a had a second kite with me that was 17m2. The Greek guy asked if he could borrow it for half an hour to teach his friend to ride. I was happy to let him as it was an old kite and I was done for the day. Unfortunately his mate crashed the kite onto the beach and tore a huge hole in it. They were really upset that they'd damaged my kite but I was easy as I was already looking for new kites in end of season sales. He asked my name and where I was staying but I thought nothing more of it. Next morning there was a big box in hotel reception for me and inside were three brand new kites (3 sizes) from a Greek company called core. Turns out the guy was top pro and core were his sponsors. He'd left them for me before heading back to Athens that day. I am now friends with him on fb and will be hooking up with him in September in kos for a few days. Total rrp of the three kites was just over £3K.

Fender Rumble 60 at a rehearsal studio..... really??
mrtcat replied to markdavid's topic in General Discussion
I have walked away from bands that insist on rehearsing at full volume. It's what kids would do. -
Haha yes by all means. I'm not the best at describing. You really don't need to do it in such a complex way but it is worth finding a way to make sure all the tracks are of a similar volume. Some are much louder than others and all I'm really doing is trying to make them consistent
-
Not my cup of tea either. Chops yes, fun to listen to nope.
If you are playing a load of covers in your set that prominently feature a horn section, get a horn section, I know keyboards can try and emulate this but they never sound right to me.
What if you're not playing a load of covers that require horns but you have a small number of songs that do? You're right, keyboards struggle to emulate horns hence the use of tracks. We're booked solid and all of our clients appreciate that they aren't paying the extra £600 a night for us to include three horn players. Luckily, you're opinion is just that and isn't shared by the people booking us.

I picked up a cheap ukulele bass in a funny little shop in Totnes last October. It's at the top of the high St on the left. Sells lots of folky type stuff.
