1. My Limelight p is hands down the best p I've ever played. This will be a beaut and the light relic is really nicely done.
2. I've had flats on a Jazz before and really liked the fatness of the sound. Definitely not taboo, it certainly works and makes sense to me. It may will undoubtedly tame the burpy bridge pickup sound a bit but to my ears that was on improvement.
3. Wow, Darkheart that's an amazing offer and really kind, Thank you. I think we have decided that both guitarist and I ate going to order Harley Bentons from Thomann and have them delivered to the villa were going to be staying at (I know the owner pretty well) and take a few tools so we can set them up. After the gig we can either mail them back to ourselves or donate them to a local school. Thanks so much to all who have advised it's definitely much appreciated.
4. Thanks all. An extra seat would be £170 so not an option. Whatever I go for needs to be headless as a headed neck won't fit in the case I'm afraid.
5. I have a gig in Italy this summer. Flying Ryanair so I don't want to take anything valuable and don't want to pay the £100 to take a guitar only to have it destroyed by baggage handlers. Thought about getting one of these kits http://www.guitar-warehouse.ie/product_detail.asp?ProductID=725&CategoryID=43 and removing neck so it packs into a suitcase. I have one of those old hard shell cases so no problem to fit it in what with it being a headless neck. Not expecting great things but with a bit of setting up etc could it be good enough for a gig?
6.
Have a look at http://websynths.com/ Bass preset 004: Far Bass without the reverb sounds like a similar sound, maybe you could use those settings as a jumping off point?
Thank you so much Gareth, that's awesome and much appreciated.
7. I need to get something that approximates the bass synth sound from "Material Girl" by madonna from my Future Impact pedal. Does anyone have any settings suggestions? I'm really new to synth sounds and it's blowing my mind with all the different possibilities but I'm yet to get close to what I want. Something like this: https://soundcloud.com/tom-caswell-3/material-synth Any help massively appreciated.
8. Happy to rehearse if there's something that needs sorting. In that situation I want to see a proper plan for the session and it needs to be focused and productive. Rehearsal on a weekly basis is, in my experience, rarely beneficial. If drummer and bass player are good then being tight should be possible after very limited time together. If you have to rehearse week in week out to get tight then there's a limiting factor at play somewhere.
9. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make this. Will bring a nice limelight P and Maruszycyk Elwood L. Can also bring an Aguilar DB750 plus TKS cabs if there's not too many amps already. What's the etiquette with cake? Should I get MrsTcat to knock something up?
10. If I had a chance of getting to Liverpool to collect I'd take this. Don't suppose you travel south at all?
11. Goes to show that a tone that sounds amazing in the mix isn't necessarily that pleasant isolated. Fantastic playing and RHCP at their peak for me.
12. Now you might get 200 watts in that little elf but there's no way in a million years you'll get 200 "trace elliot watts" into a box that small.
13.
Buy a bass with something else on the headstock.
+1. I love fenders but there's just so many other great bass makers out there now and with limited colour options and Fender QC being somewhat "inconsistent" at times then maybe it's time to look elsewhere.
14. I'd guess at 70% classic rock.
15. Thumpinators are about as good as it gets. Not cheap but worth it.
16. Wedding band varies completely depending on what we've been asked and what the room of people look like. Usually go for classic (beatles / stevie wonder / something disco) over current pop but really depends on the people. Hair Metal band starts with Hot For Teacher most times to warm drummer up.
17.
That would always be the preference of course, but for a turn-up-at-the-gig-at-8:30-and-plonk-the-camera-down-and-off-you-go solution, it's pretty hard to beat.
Agreed 100%.
18. Not my cup of tea. I loved Emergency On Planet Earth, Space Cowboy, Travelling Without Moving and bits of subsequent albums but the more records he produces the more I find myself liking each one less and less. Guess I'm getting old.
19.
Strange.. my Q4n doesn't sound like that at all (see previous clips), but then again I wasn't in the room. The SX40 clip is clipping. Honest.
That's the main reason I would prefer to take a laptop and use a feed from the desk. There's so many variables in a room that you can't be sure to get a clean recording with balance using the mic on a camera. I'd happily put a couple of mics into the room to supplement the instrument mics then tidy things up a DAW.
20. That's really cool, very glad its working well for you. If we can get hold of a really good electric kit we'll be doing the same although volume has never been an issue with our set up. Guitarist rarely uses amp for gigs or rehearsals and whole band loves in ears.
21. Posted this elsewhere but we found these very useable for video: https://www.amazon.c...s=action+camera Unfortunately not so great for audio so we usually take a feed from the desk into reaper on a laptop We used a few to do this (in two takes) and this in one take at a gig
22. I can 100% vouch for how lovely this bass is and what a great seller Lee is. Someone is going to be very very happy with this SR5.
23. BTW (I might get shot for this but lets see - please remove if not allowed) I'm currently selling a tidy and reliable 2004 Citroen Berlingo Van which runs great, has in last year had new clutch, battery, radiator and starter motor. 96K on the clock and will take £1k for it.
24. Another v70 here. Totally flat floor when seats folded down, self levelling suspension and enough room for my amp, basses, 2x pa tops, 2x pa subs, mixer, cable flight trunk, stands, 2x equinox megabar light sets and still a seat for the singer too. I've now got a brand new transit connect lwb that would carry that lot 3x over and insurance is only £232 a year fully comp on that (I'm 40 and have clean licence).
25. When we play it I just use an envelope filter (discumbobulator) on the low setting.
