Had a quick look at this and did a quick double take when I saw Chris on drums. He's been my regular dep over the last year or so. Great bloke n great drummer! Ooh and nice vid!
Yeah he's a class player and a great guy. I've done a couple of projects with him and he is really easy to play with.

Made this little video using nothing but 4 really cheap (£25 each) fake go pro cameras at soundcheck at a wedding on 17th Dec. Far from perfect but we basically just played a medley through 3 times whilst guests were outside having drinks and photos done in a separate building. Between takes we moved the cameras to new spots or on guitars. Audio was recorded from a single take on the mixer (behringer XR18) and we edited it together using free video software (lightworks). Anyone else got any super low budget videos out there?

Hartke are a disgrace in my opinion. I had so much trouble with a Kilo that I ended up £800 out of pocket when they refused to admit that it was a flawed product. I had it repaired by the UK distributor and a guy called Gareth from hartke even got involved on here. He made big public gestures saying he'd help if I ever had another problem. Funnily enough when it broke again just two hours after I got it back (complete with a damaged front panel caused by their tech) he washed his hands of all involvement and I ended up taking it to the tip. After that I would never trust hartke and their crap service ever again.

We have the le maitre MVS and it's a really really good bit of kit. Not cheap by any means but gives a very even classy effect. We use it set to very low density as we're after fine atmospheric haze like you'd expect in a theatre not a really heavy swirly effect like you'd expect in a pub. Can definitely recommend, Le maitre stuff is quality.

Saw them in Birmingham last Sunday. Really enjoyed it and thought that the energy was great. Felt like a fairly short gig and as someone who still feels they were at their best up to (and including) Blood Sugar Sex Magic I'd have liked to hear more early stuff but was definitely really happy to have seen them at the end of the night. On a side note, as it was the first big gig I've been to in years, I thought the venue was excellent (really quick bar queues, super clean loos) and the sound was great. BabyMetal were equal parts scary, tight, cute and bizarre. Actually quite enjoyed them.

HD350s used to suffer from a background distortion caused by an earth problem (something to do with the control knobs) that was only noticeable at low volume. It was still there at gig volume but was masked by the main clean sound as it got louder.

We don't usually play pubs and generally stick to function work. We have an agent that occasionally contacts us to see if we are available for the odd short notice pub gig. They know that, if we do it, we will only be the 4 core members and that £400 is minimum fee. We replace keys with backing tracks on some songs and we all sing. So far we've had 26 of these gigs this year. Most are Thursday or the odd Friday nights and are just at regular pubs. We get £400 - £500 a time. There's no way the pub covers costs but they just keep coming. Whenever we've asked the landlords how they make it pay they just say that the brewery subsidises. Can't understand the business logic myself but is nice to have these little low pressure bookings to supplement our other work.

Maruszczyk Elwood L 5 is my 5 of choice at the moment. Light, comfortable, beautiful sound and really versatile.

Electric kit and IEM's. We can rehearse anywhere where un amplified singing is acceptable and none of us ever go home with ringing ears. If guitarist or anyone wants to turn up that's absolutely no issue as he just turns up in his own mix. Also means we never pay for rehearsal space.

Sansamp bass driver Di in very good nick. Only things missing are the little rubber feet off the bottom which were removed so it could be velcro'd to the board where it has lived all its life. Completely unmarked and comes with the tin (not quite so unmarked after a year floating around in my odds and sods drawer). Full working order. £100 posted or £95 collected. If pa is up to it I rarely take an amp. We're all on in ears now so a bass, an EBS microbass 2 and my iems and I'm golden. Guitarist doesn't use an amp either.
How old are you ? That really needs to be taken into account, especially if you have relatives coming along. They may never talk to you again 😊.
Good point. I'm 40 but pretty slim and fit. It does put me in "dad dancing" territory I guess but Im a reasonably young looking 40. We're a function band and will be playing a medley of pop/disco/motown so defo no mick jagger strutting.

Got a band video shoot on Sunday which has got me looking at my stage moves whilst playing. I'm reasonably good at not standing like a statue and I'm no shoe gazer. I find getting the shoulders moving is the way to go but does anyone have any good tips for moving whilst playing and is anyone particularly adept at this. If you have video evidence it may help inspire me further.
I've decided to sell my SRFF806 as the neck is just a little bit slim for me (I have some hand issues). As new, freshly set up and listed in the Classifieds.
Dave Swift loves his srff806. Loads of quality bass for the money.

I had a 5 string once. It was excellent.
We played at The Red Lion in Brackley last night, just down the road so nice and easy. Good venue, decent crowd, went down well. We played well apart from a couple of drummer-getting-lost incidents. Horrible tone from me though, wooden floor making the amp boomy and hard to control. I eventually got it sounding about right after a few songs following lots of between song tweaking. Really feeling it this morning, I'm the oldest (47) in a band full of 30-somethings and I'm finding gigs harder and harder to get over the next day. Does there come a time when the negatives of being in a band outweigh the positives?
I've played there a heap of times and it's one of the few places I've played where a gramma pad or similar makes a huge difference. The lady that used to book bands would insist on hosting a table of her mates because she thought of herself as a bit special at the front which used to reduce playing space a bit. Thankfully her and her husband aren't there anymore.

Well done that man. Absolutely brilliant basses. Sterling work....
MRTCAT: Was it the singer and bass players night off, or do the drummer and guitarist usually go out with backing tracks and a singer, no bassist? Sounds good though - I used to do something similar - a duo with me on guitar and vox, backing tracks for bass keys etc and my drummer on electric kit. He was great - no click track and we nailed it all the time. Sadly I dont even have audio of it, let alone video.
They usually have a girl singing and her fella on bass. They were away that weekend so we stepped in. The guitarist deps for us a lot as our man is pretty busy with his main band so it was a returning of favours type thing.
when are you getting them? Tempted to wait till I hear your review!
Hopefully early Jan at the latest. Will post my thoughts then.
Listen to the live version of Hotel California from The Eagles Hell Freezes Over album and tell me you can't hear a difference!
Will do, I'm confident I'll be really impressed but trying not to over hype in my head just in case lol.
hmmm they are the budget IEM my friend the pro tech guy suggested as a cheap option - for what I do trying work out if worth dropping the cash on the ue900s ones
I've been very pleased with them but have nothing to benchmark them against. I'm sure I won't be but, if the UE900s aren't a big step up from what I already find very acceptable, i'd be really disappointed.

How about a cheap in ear monitor set up. I just posted up my sub £100 in ear set up in the thread in this forum. Has worked a treat for me. I can hear everything including my own vocals beautifully and the whole little rig fits in the front pocket of my bass gig bag.
