Oh dear, Ive had a bollocking on here for something similar! Everything from the desk, don't connect any speaker to another if they're active. ie. use the 2 main outs from the desk to each top and then 2 aux outs to each sub, at least thats what I was told.
Entirely depends on which subs and tops you have. Our subs have a high pass through and inbuilt xover so we run two xlrs from desk main outs (one to each sub) and then an xlr from each sub to the top above it. If you tell us which subs and tops you have we can tell you best way to wire them. Alternatively just download the manual from the Web and follow the instructions.
What's going down then? The case that it sound so different to what you are used to hearing coming out of your amp? Your setup should sound huge (which is a good thing)
Yeah I just never feel that it sounds as tight as I'd like it. It's really hard to explain and is probably more of a problem that as the guy who ends up engineering as well as playing I never have the time to work on how it sounds. I should probably rig the PA up somewhere and spend a few hours tinkering until I'm happy.
-
I'd be running nothing more than a 1x12, 2x10 or in ears with that PA, honestly you would need a very serious bass amp to compete with that out front, I'm talking like Flea's 7 cabs serious!
Don't get me wrong, size of sound and volume isn't an issue at all.
-
I'm very, very surprised you can't make that setup work. You're the guy with four 905s aren't you?
Yep we have four but rarely use them all unless its a big venue. I think it's more about my ability as an engineer than anything else or maybe I'm so used to hearing the bass through an amp that when its through the PA it just sounds so big that it throws me a little.
-
So tone shaping shouldn't be a problem. What about PA cabs?
RCF 745s and RCF905s. The gear is more capable than me for sure when it comes to good tone.

The thing that makes this whole thing more annoying is that this venue is less than 2 miles from Silverstone race circuit. This weekend is the Silverstone Classic so at the same time we are trying really hard to control the volume in a marquee on a remote farm, Live Wire, Reef and The Stranglers will be tearing it up on a stage nearby equipped with a 40KW sound system. We will probably be able to hear them as we play lol

I'm really into the idea of going IEM and no amp but as the person who does our engineering on gigs I never seem to be able to get a bass sound through foh that sounds as nice and tight as through my amp. I really really wish I could.

Haha just had an email from the venue saying: "In order to maintain the aesthetic charm of our facility and to be as professional as possible we require bands and DJs to have all equipment on site and vehicles parked in our car park away from the marquee by 10.30am. All sound checks must be completed by midday". Well as our contract with the client states 6pm arrival for the band I have firmly but politely told him we are unavailable earlier (we genuinely are unavailable earlier)and to contact the bride's mother (who booked us) if he has a problem with that. Definitely will be quoting a whole lot more to clients in future if they want us at this venue.
Are you not meant to plug instruments into the other inputs? The only other instrument that gets plugged in is a keyboard, but it doesn't go in 1 or 2
I don't think you'll have a major headache plugging a keyboard in elsewhere. Our keyboard player plugs all three of his keyboards into his Roland monitor and then gives us a single DI out from there into the Behringer.
-
Speaking to EBS_Freak on here has also opened my eyes to the possibility of just using the onboard pre amp on the Behringer X-18, which would mean no need for any gear other than a bass and lead?!?! Definitely going to give it a try
This was going to be my suggestion. The Behringer really is a very capable piece of kit.
Cool venue. The Brooklyn Bowl Blue
Agreed but sadly this is not THE brooklyn bowl. Its a bowling alley / music venue at the O2 arena in London. Should still be a great gig all the same :-)

There's a berg nv412 for sale in the classifieds here and I can tell you from experience that it will give you that 8x10 punch and more. It's sealed, smaller and lighter than an 8x10 but in every other way it wins hands down.
This is the bit I don't like... '● We also monitor the noise from a number of other locations outside the marquee on an hourly basis to determine if the level of noise is too much (ie. is traveling to our neighbours). While using the decibel monitor is useful some music or vocals travel more than others so please bear with us if we ask you to turn down certain aspects.' Bass frequencies travel. There's nothing you we can do about that. This means that 200m from the venue, all you can probably hear is bass. If you turn down only the bass, in reaction to this, then within the performance area the band mix will be altered and the bass will probably just disappear. What needs to happen, in these circumstances, is that the whole band needs to turn down, not just the bass. Then the band mix in the venue may be quieter but at least it will be balanced.

^^^ Yup, this is back to what I said about this stuff needing professional input. Had a pub once where the music levels were set inside the main music bar, not outside where the neighbours were - madness - but this is what happens when the local authority thinks they know what they are doing..........
This is entirely the case here. The venue is a farm and theyve only done weddings for a few years. They've clearly had a noise complaint and gone to someone claiming to be an "acoustic specialist" who has simply sold them some expensive gear and filled their heads with guff. End result is a venue that basically isn't fit for purpose now.

This will be my scaled down rig for it I'll use the lid of my pedal board to tilt it back so I can hear better without cranking like in the pic. Should do the trick

I used to have two AE112's with a TC Classic head. Although I was pretty underwhelmed with the TC head it certainly wasn't wooly. I'd be inclined to say that any of the above suggestions would yield good results and that in particular the tecamp suggestion would be great. The thunderfunks are sublime if you're not looking for a micro head.
I use http://www.karaoke-version.co.uk/ Not sure if it is exactly what you are after. They are decent covers, when you buy a track you can download it as much as you want and can keep or leave out any of the instruments each time.
We use these too. On some tracks we import the individual tracks into a DAW and add a little eq /reverb etc here and there to really bring them to life. That said they're definitely pretty good straight out of the box.
