1. Help the guy out. Just make sure every third cable is rolled badly and catch his cabs on every door frame you carry them through.
2. They're all classic rock. If that's what you market your band as playing and you don't do at least a handful of those tunes there's going to be a few disappointed punters. Play them well and they're all perfectly decent songs.
3. Absolutely nothing wrong with xr gear. We have the xr x-air 18 and have done 80+ shows with it. Behringer have really upped their game in recent years with their mixers and are a brand I'd trust without reservation in that field.
4. How much for the head and case? May be able to collect from purpolaris as he's half way between us.
5. I'm going to be 40 later this year. I really fancied a yob precision but decided instead to get a 76 copy made by limelight. Gets me a kind of yob bass but made to my preferred spec. May be worth considering something like that?
6. Get the pics up on the courier's Facebook page and twitter feed. Publicly shaming them in front of their customers often prompts a more "favourable" response.
7. That's bloody lovely! Keep us posted how it goes when you get to use it with your band.
8. So for the first time in my 27 year playing career I just ordered my first custom built bass Nothing fancy by most people's standards but I can't wait. I'm turning 40 in October and I've been really gassing for a nice 70s Precision for some time. I can't afford the real deal and if I could I'd be unlikely to take it out the house anyway. I've therefore just given Mark at Classic And Cool Guitars the nod to make me a Limelight replica 1976 (yob) precision with white body, maple neck and black scratchplate. I've specified a light relic with only a bit of smooth wear where the forearm rubs (I checked first and my forearm does actually rub there when I play) and just a few chips elsewhere. It could be ready in 12 weeks but I've decided to be strong and hold out until October when I'm going to be in Devon with family for a 40th bday holiday week. I'm going to pick it up from Mark then. If nothing else it'll make it feel like a really long summer this year
9. "It's a deal, it's a steal, it's the sale of the friggin century my son. In fact f**k it Nick, I think I'll keep it" WITHDRAWN
10. These are great basses. I have a 5 string version up for sale although I think I'm going to take it down and keep it. I played it alongside a euro Lx this weekend and there's a clear difference with my NS5 Crfm being better quality imo. GLWTS
11. Would consider a nice precision type bass as a trade with cash either way.
12. Hey Lee, yeah I really really want to love it because it's just such a good looking and well made bass. I am going to hold out for my asking price and keep playing it at home to see if I can't get used to it. With the east pre I really should be able to get the sound I'm after.
13. I don't at the moment but could probably do something over the weekend.
14.
The NSCRFMs are prett much a direct copy of the US NSXLs including full maple quilted wings. Great basses, still sometimes miss mine even having owned USA ones too.
Yes, this is much closer to a US version than the Euro Lx as the pickups and bridge are also the same as the US one.
15. Here for sale is a very recently aquired Spector NSCRFM5 in natural oil quilted maple. I took this in a trade just over a week ago from a great BC'er. I did a 9 hour round trip to get it and it's absolutely brilliant but sadly just not my thing. I've used the previous owner's description as he had it for a good few years and gigged it plenty so he is better informed than me. I have also used his pics as theyre really very good. It seems that I'm a wooly old vintage sound lover and this is just too modern for my luddite taste. The action is low and fast and everything works exactly as it should. This is essentially an early version of the Euro Lx. It has a John East u retro deluxe preamp that seems to smooth out the Spector aggressive treble and has a much more refined high end than the normal Euros. It has an inbuilt EQ curve that adds low end, also parametric mids and a high treble boost (which adds a lot of bite and is great for adding a bit of aggression for slap). It has as a passive tone, however it does not work with the EMGS, i emailed John East about it and he advised that the retro system was designed for passive pickups and a change of pot value would correct this, I have, however never needed the facility). The bass is an older model and from my my research is one of the early 35" scale models before it was changed to the LX, it has the full quilted maple wings, brass bridge and EMG DC pickups as featured on the USA versions. The core sound is completely Spector it has that very articulate growl and Hi FI high end, but the East adds a bit more tight bottom end and warmth giving a very clear fat and balanced sound (it does a great stanley Clarke impression when you dig in high up the board). It's sound is very very close to the USA versions ( the Euro LX has alder and maple as well as the ceramic/steel pickups which gives a more traditional sound) the east preamp is a lot more versatile than the Haz labs or tone pump pres, as you have complete control of the mid range (I must admit though I actually don't use the mids unless I'm in an awful room, so I tend to just boost the bass a little and increase/decrease treble to taste). The all maple construction gives it a very clear treble anyway, it also has an oil finish which I use a very high quality carnauba wax. Bass comes with a Hiscox hard case and a tub of carnuba wax. Collection is from Silverstone Northants (Nr J15a M1) or I will courier at buyers expense within the UK. You are more than welcome to come and try the bass here where I have a small studio with a decent amp and I make good tea.
16. I think the only way to know if a bfm 2x12 cab is right for you is to hear one paired with your amp. Unfortunately they're a little thin on the ground but having built multiple bfm 1x12s and having gigged a pair for a while I found them very good all round. They're pretty flat and have good response across the frequency range. I used 3012ho drivers but they can be built with 3012lf if you want bigger low end. The build is straightforward and the plans are easy to follow if you take your time. The end result is lightweight, sturdy and attractive to look at. I say do it.
17. I'm a firm believer in a good diet, regular exercise and good quality sleep. I know that time is at a premium for many of us (myself included with a young family and running my own business) but just 30mins every day of any activity that raises your heart rate (yes sex counts) and quality sleep can make huge difference. That said, long nights with 1am finishes are tough no matter who you are. I'm no puritan mind, I love a few beers or rums the same as the next man.
18. No problem at all, if you decide you need some it's not going anywhere and I'm happy to donate it to a fun project.
19. I have zero tolerance for this. I sacked a brilliant pro drummer last year because he repeatedly did this. I would just be totally straight with the guitarist and tell him if that's the way he wants to work your going to have to line up another guitarist and give him priority if he plays by the rules. Guitarists are easy to find but be aware that really good team players are harder to come across.
20. How much do you need? I have a few off cuts of proper grill cloth you could have if they're big enough.
21. I recently replied to an ad on join my band. The response said "you sound like everything we are looking for but as the ad has only been up one day we'd like to see who applies. Please approach us again in two weeks". I can happily appreciate the first bit but why can't they just contact me when they're happy they've had as many applicants as they want. I think it's perfectly sensible to wait to see who approaches them and then make a short list for auditions but how hard is it to add my contact details and come back to me when they're ready?
22.
Snap I bought a Hartke Kilo last year, that failed twice in quick succession, the second time leaving without an amp for an upcoming gig. I too emailed Larry Hartke three times,he never replied. Fortunately GAK were brilliant & allowed me the full price I paid in exchange for something else. I went for a Galien Krueger MB800 Fusion & couldn't be happier with it,superb amp. I'll never ever buy any Hartke gear ever again.
Haha I now have an MB 800 Fusion too and love it. Credit to GAK though as that's exactly what the retailer I used should have done, you're not the first to mention how good they are to deal with either.
23. Just had the pleasure of trading my SR5 for his Spector. A top fella to deal with and really nice chap to chat with. A very worthwhile 9hr round trip lol. Cheers Lee!
