I think the only way to know if a bfm 2x12 cab is right for you is to hear one paired with your amp. Unfortunately they're a little thin on the ground but having built multiple bfm 1x12s and having gigged a pair for a while I found them very good all round. They're pretty flat and have good response across the frequency range. I used 3012ho drivers but they can be built with 3012lf if you want bigger low end. The build is straightforward and the plans are easy to follow if you take your time. The end result is lightweight, sturdy and attractive to look at. I say do it.

I'm a firm believer in a good diet, regular exercise and good quality sleep. I know that time is at a premium for many of us (myself included with a young family and running my own business) but just 30mins every day of any activity that raises your heart rate (yes sex counts) and quality sleep can make huge difference. That said, long nights with 1am finishes are tough no matter who you are. I'm no puritan mind, I love a few beers or rums the same as the next man.

No problem at all, if you decide you need some it's not going anywhere and I'm happy to donate it to a fun project.

I have zero tolerance for this. I sacked a brilliant pro drummer last year because he repeatedly did this. I would just be totally straight with the guitarist and tell him if that's the way he wants to work your going to have to line up another guitarist and give him priority if he plays by the rules. Guitarists are easy to find but be aware that really good team players are harder to come across.

How much do you need? I have a few off cuts of proper grill cloth you could have if they're big enough.

I recently replied to an ad on join my band. The response said "you sound like everything we are looking for but as the ad has only been up one day we'd like to see who applies. Please approach us again in two weeks". I can happily appreciate the first bit but why can't they just contact me when they're happy they've had as many applicants as they want. I think it's perfectly sensible to wait to see who approaches them and then make a short list for auditions but how hard is it to add my contact details and come back to me when they're ready?
Snap I bought a Hartke Kilo last year, that failed twice in quick succession, the second time leaving without an amp for an upcoming gig. I too emailed Larry Hartke three times,he never replied. Fortunately GAK were brilliant & allowed me the full price I paid in exchange for something else. I went for a Galien Krueger MB800 Fusion & couldn't be happier with it,superb amp. I'll never ever buy any Hartke gear ever again.
Haha I now have an MB 800 Fusion too and love it. Credit to GAK though as that's exactly what the retailer I used should have done, you're not the first to mention how good they are to deal with either.

Just had the pleasure of trading my SR5 for his Spector. A top fella to deal with and really nice chap to chat with. A very worthwhile 9hr round trip lol. Cheers Lee!
Doesn't Mr Hartke pop on here from time to time? IIRC, about a year ago, a BCer had an issue with his Hartke amp & the dealer wasn't being helpful, Mr H stepped in & got things resolved. I myself was impressed by the customer service. But like he above says, I'd try as many rigs out as you can.
That was me with a faulty Hartke kilo. The UK Hartke representative got involved when it went wrong 1St time and arranged a repair. Unfortunately it almost immediately went wrong again and he just didn't return any calls or emails. It was a known fault with the amp and Hartke just washed their hands of it so I ended up £750 out of pocket with an amp that never worked again. I'd never buy anything from Hartke in a million years now. I even emailed Larry Hartke and he didn't respond.

Japanese 75 Jazz with east J-retro. Bought late last year from here. Best neck for my hands, super versatile, creamy white with black plate, bound maple neck with pearl blocks. Looks, sounds and feels like perfection to me.
Dave Swift???
Yep. His work with Jools Holland sees him playing half a dozen different styles every week. Not to mention all the other stuff he does.

Would be handy to know your budget and if there's any transport issues. Ashdown stuff is OK also old trace elliot gear is good value and rarely struggles to keep up with even the loudest drummers.

Absolutely awesome cabs. This will be a joy at gigs. Great choice.
-
Material costs are soaring too though. Neo drivers have gone up by almost 70% in four years and wood prices continue to go up. That said £743 for a 1x12 is just too much.

Can't fault my XR18.
I can see I'll have to do a note-for-note demonstration! Although when I've played it in the last 15 years, I've tried to stick to the recorded version, when I recorded the song the fills were just improvised, so on another take they would have been different. If it's played too fast, which is often the case, some of the fills become impossible to play properly, which is frustrating. Although I am not an expert jazz, blues or funk player, I had enough of those influences to bring some of that to my rock playing, particularly in 1978-82 Whitesnake, as the songs allowed for interesting bass parts. When the songs don't permit that style of playing, which is mostly the case, I have to be more straight-ahead. Neil
Man, this is one helluva great forum. One of my absolute bass heroes just chips in and offers help to us mere mortals.

Bumping this up. It is now no longer an urgent sale as I have rounded up enough cash to buy what I wanted from Karlfer. I have therefore adjusted the price to something a little more sensible and added possible trade options. I'm not even remotely desperate to sell and will happily keep but may be tempted to part with it for the right deal. Looking for an offer over £900 or trades as listed in 1st post. Thanks to everyone above for the really nice comments. -
Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. My studio is in a log cabin type building which has a slate roof, double glazing etc and the door is a huge heavy, solid thing. The guy clearly really wanted in because in order to break the frame he actually bent the blade on the pick axe. He (assuming it was a he based on size of footprints in frosty lawn) got into one other house's outbuilding on the street before he got to mine. It looks like it was a planned and targeted thing because both myself and the guy at the other house are pest controllers. At the other place he ignored the guy's expensive gardening tools and took some pretty specialist pest control gear. I have a brick built chemical store with a heavy steel fireproof door but he didn't get even close to that. I've ordered a couple of steel door bars that have fixings that bolt through the wall, a 4 camera cctv recorder and have spent the day putting up three new security lights. Access is via the side of the house and I will now park the van so tight that the only way in is to climb over the roof. I take it as a very good lesson learned and I'm really pleased that we have the burglar alarm. We live in a quiet village with a ridiculously low crime rate but it's near the M1 and M40 so it gives would be thieves easy get away. Spikey bushes are difficult because we have a 1yr old.

Well it's 4.30 am and I'm sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea shaking with rage. We were woken by the sound of the burglar alarm on my studio. Some theiving sod has broken into my neighbours shed, stolen his pickaxe and used it to prize open the door to my studio which is in an outbuilding at the end of my garden. Thankfully it seems that the burglar alarm did it's job and scared them off before they have managed to get hold of anything of value. I was up, out of bed and down the garden in a flash but clearly not quickly enough as there was no sign of anyone other than the security lights being on, the alarm ringing, a random pick axe and gardening fork on the ground and my studio door ajar. A good check through and I can't see anything missing. I've spoken to police but there's nothing they can do now. Today is going to be spent improving security around the studio and house. Feels like a very lucky escape but God I'm angry.

I swore blind that I wouldn't sell this but I'm trying to raise funds to save my Stingray 5 being sold. If this goes quickly I'll withdraw the SR5 but if it doesn't go in time the SR5 will be off to a new home on Tuesday. It's an absolute beast of a cab that will do pretty much everything you could ever want a bass cab to do. It's loud, authoritative, punchy, clear and has incredible dispersion and is in really good condition. This is smaller and lighter than a 410 with a smaller footprint. It will absolutely fill a room with bass and has awesome dispersion and off axis sensitivity. Unlike many Schroeders this doesn't have a big mid hump so sounds very full and natural. Comes with a fitted Roqsolid cover which is well used but thick and strong and does the job just great.

2 X 10" Neo Drivers
1 X 12" Neo Driver mounted on angled baffle
200W Tweeter with adjustable Attenuator
1 X Speakon and 1 X 6.3mm Jack Inputs
1000W RMS @ 4ohms
49lb (22kg)
23.5 X 23.5 X 16" (60 X 60 X 40 cm)
I'm near Towcester in Northamptonshire if you want to come and try it out. I am happy to do plenty of driving to deliver (poss 100 mile radius) or you are welcome to collect.
