1.
Doesn't Mr Hartke pop on here from time to time? IIRC, about a year ago, a BCer had an issue with his Hartke amp & the dealer wasn't being helpful, Mr H stepped in & got things resolved. I myself was impressed by the customer service. But like he above says, I'd try as many rigs out as you can.
That was me with a faulty Hartke kilo. The UK Hartke representative got involved when it went wrong 1St time and arranged a repair. Unfortunately it almost immediately went wrong again and he just didn't return any calls or emails. It was a known fault with the amp and Hartke just washed their hands of it so I ended up £750 out of pocket with an amp that never worked again. I'd never buy anything from Hartke in a million years now. I even emailed Larry Hartke and he didn't respond.
  2. Japanese 75 Jazz with east J-retro. Bought late last year from here. Best neck for my hands, super versatile, creamy white with black plate, bound maple neck with pearl blocks. Looks, sounds and feels like perfection to me.
  3. That's a great price for a brilliant bass. SR5s are really top notch basses. GLWTS
  4.
Dave Swift???
Yep. His work with Jools Holland sees him playing half a dozen different styles every week. Not to mention all the other stuff he does.
  5. Would be handy to know your budget and if there's any transport issues. Ashdown stuff is OK also old trace elliot gear is good value and rarely struggles to keep up with even the loudest drummers.
  6. Absolutely awesome cabs. This will be a joy at gigs. Great choice.
  7. Material costs are soaring too though. Neo drivers have gone up by almost 70% in four years and wood prices continue to go up. That said £743 for a 1x12 is just too much.
  8.
I can see I'll have to do a note-for-note demonstration! Although when I've played it in the last 15 years, I've tried to stick to the recorded version, when I recorded the song the fills were just improvised, so on another take they would have been different. If it's played too fast, which is often the case, some of the fills become impossible to play properly, which is frustrating. Although I am not an expert jazz, blues or funk player, I had enough of those influences to bring some of that to my rock playing, particularly in 1978-82 Whitesnake, as the songs allowed for interesting bass parts. When the songs don't permit that style of playing, which is mostly the case, I have to be more straight-ahead. Neil
Man, this is one helluva great forum. One of my absolute bass heroes just chips in and offers help to us mere mortals.
  9. Bumping this up. It is now no longer an urgent sale as I have rounded up enough cash to buy what I wanted from Karlfer. I have therefore adjusted the price to something a little more sensible and added possible trade options. I'm not even remotely desperate to sell and will happily keep but may be tempted to part with it for the right deal. Looking for an offer over £900 or trades as listed in 1st post. Thanks to everyone above for the really nice comments.
  10. Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. My studio is in a log cabin type building which has a slate roof, double glazing etc and the door is a huge heavy, solid thing. The guy clearly really wanted in because in order to break the frame he actually bent the blade on the pick axe. He (assuming it was a he based on size of footprints in frosty lawn) got into one other house's outbuilding on the street before he got to mine. It looks like it was a planned and targeted thing because both myself and the guy at the other house are pest controllers. At the other place he ignored the guy's expensive gardening tools and took some pretty specialist pest control gear. I have a brick built chemical store with a heavy steel fireproof door but he didn't get even close to that. I've ordered a couple of steel door bars that have fixings that bolt through the wall, a 4 camera cctv recorder and have spent the day putting up three new security lights. Access is via the side of the house and I will now park the van so tight that the only way in is to climb over the roof. I take it as a very good lesson learned and I'm really pleased that we have the burglar alarm. We live in a quiet village with a ridiculously low crime rate but it's near the M1 and M40 so it gives would be thieves easy get away. Spikey bushes are difficult because we have a 1yr old.
  11. Well it's 4.30 am and I'm sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea shaking with rage. We were woken by the sound of the burglar alarm on my studio. Some theiving sod has broken into my neighbours shed, stolen his pickaxe and used it to prize open the door to my studio which is in an outbuilding at the end of my garden. Thankfully it seems that the burglar alarm did it's job and scared them off before they have managed to get hold of anything of value. I was up, out of bed and down the garden in a flash but clearly not quickly enough as there was no sign of anyone other than the security lights being on, the alarm ringing, a random pick axe and gardening fork on the ground and my studio door ajar. A good check through and I can't see anything missing. I've spoken to police but there's nothing they can do now. Today is going to be spent improving security around the studio and house. Feels like a very lucky escape but God I'm angry.
  12. I've been organising a purchase with Karl and he's been absolutely the most helpful seller I've ever come across. Really really appreciate it and it's what makes BC a great place to buy and sell. Cab is now sold pending the usual too :-)
  13. I swore blind that I wouldn't sell this but I'm trying to raise funds to save my Stingray 5 being sold. If this goes quickly I'll withdraw the SR5 but if it doesn't go in time the SR5 will be off to a new home on Tuesday. It's an absolute beast of a cab that will do pretty much everything you could ever want a bass cab to do. It's loud, authoritative, punchy, clear and has incredible dispersion and is in really good condition. This is smaller and lighter than a 410 with a smaller footprint. It will absolutely fill a room with bass and has awesome dispersion and off axis sensitivity. Unlike many Schroeders this doesn't have a big mid hump so sounds very full and natural. Comes with a fitted Roqsolid cover which is well used but thick and strong and does the job just great.

2 X 10" Neo Drivers
1 X 12" Neo Driver mounted on angled baffle
200W Tweeter with adjustable Attenuator
1 X Speakon and 1 X 6.3mm Jack Inputs
1000W RMS @ 4ohms
49lb (22kg)
23.5 X 23.5 X 16" (60 X 60 X 40 cm)
I'm near Towcester in Northamptonshire if you want to come and try it out. I am happy to do plenty of driving to deliver (poss 100 mile radius) or you are welcome to collect.
  14. I have one of these and it's ridiculously good. Smaller and lighter than a 4x10 but loud (I mean REALLY LOUD) and great dispersion. GLWTS
  15. Thanks Karl, People I'm after something of karl's so will reduce this to £850 for a super quick sale which I think is a silly price for such a great bass.
  16. Reverend and the makers - heavyweight champion of the world.
  17.
I suppose a courier is out of the question?
I could probably courier them but it would possibly be quite expensive. Where are you? I may be able to arrange something.
  18.
I can personally vouch for the quality of mrtcat's cabinet building - they are superbly put together. He's also a very nice chap to boot
Thanks so much did you get the fearful cab up and running in the end? I got to play with one of the fearless 212's not so long ago and it's definitely on my want list now.
  19.
No worries, all sorted.
Much appreciated thank you
Very nice indeed! Great colour.. GLWTS
Thanks silverfoxnik, I love the colour but if it's not to someone's liking I think I also have some black tuff cab in the stores that I can throw in.
  20. Musicman Stingray 5HH in honeyburst with rosewood fretboard. A total joy to play and beautiful to look at. I took this in a trade from a really nice BCer and I'd love to keep it but I I'm just not using it as much as I'd hoped I would. It weights 4.9kg / 10.8lbs. It's set up really nicely with a low action and being the HH model it's ridiculously versatile. There is a small chip in the rear by the strap pin, other than that it's in really really good condition. I requested the details of manufacture from the Ernie Ball forum and here's the brief details they sent: This StingRay 5 HH was completed on March 28th, 2006. The color is honey burst with the rosewood fretboard and shell pickguard. It was originally shipped to Guitar Center. That sounds spot on as the previous owner bought it in the states during a trip there. This is no longer an urgent sale so I have removed the ridiculously low price that I was offering for it last week and am looking for offers over £900. I'm really happy for potential buyers to come and play. I have a studio with nice amps where you can make as much noise as you want for as long as you want and I'll keep the tea / coffee and biscuits coming. If a buyer wants this sent via courier I will happily package it up ready for collection but the buyer must arrange the courier themselves as I'd be terrified taking responsibility for this in the hands of UPS / Parcelforce etc. I can however deliver within 100 miles of Silverstone Northants for free and can discuss further afield for fuel money. Price is £1000 ovno. TRADES I will only consider the following and may be able to add a little cash for the right thing: Aguilar DB 750 / 751 Warwick Streamer Stage 1 5 string A really nice P bass (doesn't have to be fender but does have to be lovely) Please feel free to ask any questions!
  21. Such a doofus - wrong for sale forum. Sorry mods but can you move for me.
  22. For sale are my two Bill Fitzmaurice designed Simplex 1 x 12 cabs finished in "Funky Purple". Both contain pretty much brand new Eminence Kappalite 3012HO drivers which currently retail at £195 each. One cab is fitted with the Eminence APT80 tweeter. Both cabs are 8ohm and have 400w power handling. Both cabs weigh 16.4kg each. I built these myself as my final BFM build when I stopped being an authorised BFM builder two years ago. Since then they have been used for probably 20 gigs but since I bought a bigger van I've been using a schroeder cab so these have only been used in my home studio recently. The wood is proper 12mm baltic birch ply with 11 very even plys and absolutely no voids. They are built to last and all components used are premium. I can also throw in the remainder of the tuff cab paint used so you can make them look like new over and over again if you wish. They sound great. They go seriously loud if that's your thing and they have a pretty flat response and a tight authoritive bottom end. They have sprung handles and feet on bottom and sides so they can be stacked tall on smaller stages. Both have double speakon inputs at the back. They come with both steel grills and vintage style cloth grills (shown in 1st pic) and are easy to swap. I'm only asking £190 each or £350 for the pair. That's less than the price of the drivers so a total steal. I'm not desperate to sell them so the price is firm. I can deliver withing 50 miles of Silverstone northants for free. If you want to come and try them I have a studio where you can give them a good run at gig volume. 23. Jobeky standard kit with the new td-25 brain. £1800 but looks like a real kit and sounds epic. We use one for function work and its beyond brilliant.
  24.
The one thing that I find common in the type of ad your posting. It sounds like a band that rehearses more than they gig.
This. It would put me off. Also the fact that it's only a temporary position.
