1. Worth considering selling the one10 and just getting a 4ohm two10? It's £100 less than two one10s. If it were me I'd be more tempted to do that I think as the two10 isn't that big either and you'd possibly get £250 for a one10 on here.
2. I've only got positive things to say about our behringer x-air xr18 set up. Easy to use, massive array of processing if you want it and saves masses of space in the van. No way in a million years that Id go back to a mixing desk now. We do weddings, corporate and private functions. If the gig is a big one that requires pa we use a local hire company who use a behringer x32 desk which allows wifi mixing too. With our set up we do foh mix from laptop then singer uses iPad air for his monitor mix. Drummer uses a galaxy tab something and guitarist uses his phone. Never had any problems.
3. Yep, set list flow is very important and makes the difference between a band and a show. Our MD is great at this and we regularly do 10 song medleys etc that keep a dance floor rammed.
4. Ive been off today and have set up PA system just so I can play about getting a nice bass sound through it. Will be totally irrelevant when I have to completely re eq it at the next gig to suit the room but it killed a few hours lol.
5. Guitarist in my function band tours with Tony Hadley and also plays in the house band for the rewind festivals. He never ever takes an amp as it's always hired in. When he joined us he had to buy an amp as he didn't actually own one so spent £80 on ebay for a fender combo with not a valve in sight. He has a Line 6 multi effects unit and that's what travels with him and he sounds great.
6. Seems your leap of faith with the drummer really paid off, he sounds great. Seriously good work though, it takes someone properly dedicated to drag a band to life. I really hope it works out for you.
7.
I don't think that can be right, surely. £30K maybe?
Yep I'm informed that total cost was £272k all in. The venue was a stately home in Oxfordshire so they brought everything including the stage, lighting, crew etc. Apparently only possible because they were touring but it was more expensive than previous private gigs as they had to bring the whole lot back from Europe just for the gig.
8. 1st world problems.... See how the new rig fares in a band situation and if it's good there too then you can alternate?
9. Was lucky enough to see them last February at a private 70th birthday party as a surprise for a friend of my Dad's. Apparently the birthday boy's wife paid just short of £300k for 45 mins. Worth every penny though. Bloody brilliant
10. One of those cocktail drum kits would be cool where the kick beater strikes the underside of a floor tom.
11. I've had an Ashdown ABM 410 before and it didn't last long as I thought it sounded really dull and the tolex was terribly soft so damaged really easily. I also had an ampeg 410hlf which again I really didn't like. Does it have to be one of the old school 410 style cabs? There are so many great 212's now that have much better dispersion of sound and bigger displacement. If you went with something like just a single BF Super 12 you would have a great rig which would slay 2 x ABM410s. I'm guessing it's as much to do with aesthetics if its a tribute act?
12.
I use a protection racket 7051 for my MB500. As an added bonus my bass fits in it as well!
I have a Fusion "Funksion" gig bag and the front pocket is a funny shape but also has a fairly thin outer so i'd worry about the sharp edges of the GK splitting it. Think I may go for a bag that also fits my laptop as I use it to run the mixer we have. I thought something like http://www.over-board.co.uk/adventure-messenger-bag.html could be good as it would fair well in bad weather. I have one of their backpacks for snowboarding and its as tough as anything.
13.
Usually only takes a few months for the smell of p!ss to wear off.
Haha that's providng that I don't make it worse in the meantime.
14. I just picked up an MB500 fusion for a run of rock gigs I'm doing but I didn't buy a gig bag for it. I've seen the GK one and it looks like something my Grandma would carry so does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative? I don't like the look of the Gator one for the same reason. I used to have a great Gigskinz bag for my old TC RH450 but I cant seem to find anything similar. Looking for something with a shoulder strap in case I want to do the whole public transport thing.....................pah who am I kidding - way too lazy for that.
15. If they sound good then that's a fabulous price for really light kit and will undoubtedly be popular. I really like the look of the rootmaster evo head too - just a pity that the demo vid in the OP's link is just awful with slap from start to finish.
16.
You are right - I made this point earlier. Nobody seems to want to invest or have ownership of a PA!
I invested a huge amount (to me) in pa and we have a great system for what we do. What I wouldn't invest in is the monitors unless it was one just for me. If the guys in the band want a monitor then they can pull their wallets out and buy their own and I'll give them whatever mix they want. I'm very tempted to go in ear monitor though for my hearing's sake.

Stack help!

Barefaced big twin 2 and a GK mb800 fusion. You'll demolish the pub before you run out of volume.
18.
I'll call them as the venue will likely have booked the P.A but we will have supplied a basic spec and stage plan. This is just basics. If outdoor we will want to know about power runs as well. Depends who is running the gig...they may not know about all this stuff so we've got involved. Any wedding in the garden with catering supplied will probably involve a genie.. So yes, after the power and stage etc etc ... you'll want to know what P.A is supplied and how many people are expected. Do you want the P.A to hit the back of the tent for a 1000 people etc.. It is no good booking a 16k P.A if it flattens the power...and the hire company might send that as it was already loaded back from another gig So after all that... asking about the monitoring is pretty small detail. It is all very well accepting a P.A is supplied but what P.A. If it is less than 6k..we could cobble together that anyway... but you still have to 'charge' £250 for that to the gig.. as that will involve a van etc etc .. Any for that, I know the bass isn't going anywhere near monitors...
Do you have a band website or fb page. We are growing as a band but still clearly a way behind you judging by the gigs you are doing. It be great to see more about your band.
19. Internet use is restricted in prison. If I'm absent from here for long periods you know I've been naughty.
20.
Yes! Great demo, although I nearly spat my tea out when he described what the second control knob (after the volume, active/passive switching control knob) did!
Imagine if you could buy a bass that had a knob that controlled all the "balance" in you band and audience.
21.
Most bass player obsess over their £500 bass cabs yet the wedge infront of them is often far superior, a di box is all that is needed if there is a proper pa!
IF there's a decent monitor available that's occasionally true but it's also dependent on the engineer knowing how to or caring enough to get you a sound that works on stage. Very few bass players can guarantee what monitor will be at the next gig. I'd rather own a decent amp so I know there will always be decent bass that drummer and I can both hear and it be overkill than not owning a decent amp and struggling when the monitors or engineer aren't up to par. In ears are all well and good if the whole band subscribes but I do heaps of depping and sometimes it's in ear but more often than not it's a mix of backline and wedges.
22. Aren't GK speakon cables 4 pin because of their bi amp setup?
23. Lovely to hear about such great service. I will certainly be in contact with Alex this year as my 40th approaches and I get to treat myself. It's this kind of service that creates real and justified brand loyalty. I recently had great support from John East after buying a bass on here with a J-retro fitted. Previous owner had wired it up wrong and battery was draining quickly. John sorted it very quickly and without charge. I'll definitely be using and recommending his products again.
24. Thanks king prawn. Now accepting £350 including delivery or £320 collected.
25. Now there's a bargain if ever I saw one. Don't imagine this will be around long. GLWTS
