1. One of those cocktail drum kits would be cool where the kick beater strikes the underside of a floor tom.
2. I've had an Ashdown ABM 410 before and it didn't last long as I thought it sounded really dull and the tolex was terribly soft so damaged really easily. I also had an ampeg 410hlf which again I really didn't like. Does it have to be one of the old school 410 style cabs? There are so many great 212's now that have much better dispersion of sound and bigger displacement. If you went with something like just a single BF Super 12 you would have a great rig which would slay 2 x ABM410s. I'm guessing it's as much to do with aesthetics if its a tribute act?
3.
I use a protection racket 7051 for my MB500. As an added bonus my bass fits in it as well!
I have a Fusion "Funksion" gig bag and the front pocket is a funny shape but also has a fairly thin outer so i'd worry about the sharp edges of the GK splitting it. Think I may go for a bag that also fits my laptop as I use it to run the mixer we have. I thought something like http://www.over-board.co.uk/adventure-messenger-bag.html could be good as it would fair well in bad weather. I have one of their backpacks for snowboarding and its as tough as anything.
4.
Usually only takes a few months for the smell of p!ss to wear off.
Haha that's providng that I don't make it worse in the meantime.
5. I just picked up an MB500 fusion for a run of rock gigs I'm doing but I didn't buy a gig bag for it. I've seen the GK one and it looks like something my Grandma would carry so does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative? I don't like the look of the Gator one for the same reason. I used to have a great Gigskinz bag for my old TC RH450 but I cant seem to find anything similar. Looking for something with a shoulder strap in case I want to do the whole public transport thing.....................pah who am I kidding - way too lazy for that.
6. If they sound good then that's a fabulous price for really light kit and will undoubtedly be popular. I really like the look of the rootmaster evo head too - just a pity that the demo vid in the OP's link is just awful with slap from start to finish.
7.
You are right - I made this point earlier. Nobody seems to want to invest or have ownership of a PA!
I invested a huge amount (to me) in pa and we have a great system for what we do. What I wouldn't invest in is the monitors unless it was one just for me. If the guys in the band want a monitor then they can pull their wallets out and buy their own and I'll give them whatever mix they want. I'm very tempted to go in ear monitor though for my hearing's sake.

Stack help!

Barefaced big twin 2 and a GK mb800 fusion. You'll demolish the pub before you run out of volume.
9.
I'll call them as the venue will likely have booked the P.A but we will have supplied a basic spec and stage plan. This is just basics. If outdoor we will want to know about power runs as well. Depends who is running the gig...they may not know about all this stuff so we've got involved. Any wedding in the garden with catering supplied will probably involve a genie.. So yes, after the power and stage etc etc ... you'll want to know what P.A is supplied and how many people are expected. Do you want the P.A to hit the back of the tent for a 1000 people etc.. It is no good booking a 16k P.A if it flattens the power...and the hire company might send that as it was already loaded back from another gig So after all that... asking about the monitoring is pretty small detail. It is all very well accepting a P.A is supplied but what P.A. If it is less than 6k..we could cobble together that anyway... but you still have to 'charge' £250 for that to the gig.. as that will involve a van etc etc .. Any for that, I know the bass isn't going anywhere near monitors...
Do you have a band website or fb page. We are growing as a band but still clearly a way behind you judging by the gigs you are doing. It be great to see more about your band.
10. Internet use is restricted in prison. If I'm absent from here for long periods you know I've been naughty.
11.
Yes! Great demo, although I nearly spat my tea out when he described what the second control knob (after the volume, active/passive switching control knob) did!
Imagine if you could buy a bass that had a knob that controlled all the "balance" in you band and audience.
12.
Most bass player obsess over their £500 bass cabs yet the wedge infront of them is often far superior, a di box is all that is needed if there is a proper pa!
IF there's a decent monitor available that's occasionally true but it's also dependent on the engineer knowing how to or caring enough to get you a sound that works on stage. Very few bass players can guarantee what monitor will be at the next gig. I'd rather own a decent amp so I know there will always be decent bass that drummer and I can both hear and it be overkill than not owning a decent amp and struggling when the monitors or engineer aren't up to par. In ears are all well and good if the whole band subscribes but I do heaps of depping and sometimes it's in ear but more often than not it's a mix of backline and wedges.
13. Aren't GK speakon cables 4 pin because of their bi amp setup?
14. Lovely to hear about such great service. I will certainly be in contact with Alex this year as my 40th approaches and I get to treat myself. It's this kind of service that creates real and justified brand loyalty. I recently had great support from John East after buying a bass on here with a J-retro fitted. Previous owner had wired it up wrong and battery was draining quickly. John sorted it very quickly and without charge. I'll definitely be using and recommending his products again.
15. Thanks king prawn. Now accepting £350 including delivery or £320 collected.
16. Now there's a bargain if ever I saw one. Don't imagine this will be around long. GLWTS
17. Bump for a great head. I'll listen to all sensible offers and can courier at buyers expense.
18. From the other side of the fence, if you are a band and you are auditioning players you are usually grateful if: 1. Auditionee is on time. 2. Auditionee is prepared. 3. Auditionee has described themselves and their ability honestly in their advert. 4. Auditionee doesn't smell bad and generally is pleasant. Beyond that it's great when you find the right person but you certainly don't begrudge anyone who doesn't fit as long as they have adhered to points 1-4 so there's actually very little to be afraid of.
19.
Hi, I'm going to see Space Elevator tonight in High Wycombe! I played on their album, did a video with them and played at the 100 Club with them 18 months ago, but after that I bowed out and their bassist is now Chas Maguire, who plays on Don't Believe A Word. They are planning a second album with funding via Pledge Music. The fast and slow versions are similar to how Gary Moore did the track on his Back On The Streets album. Neil
Space Elevator are great. I did a function gig last year with Brian Greene on drums. Possibly the nicest drummer I've ever played with despite being a huge Wycombe Wanderers fan. GLWTS
20. Thanks Mark, that's really helpful. Totally agree with everything above as it has that real weight to the sound that I used to get with my old Berg NV412. If I could get away without selling this I would.
21. Here for sale only is my pristine EBS HD350 in a Gator soft rack case. NOW SOLD THANKS Amp is in excellent condition and sounds every bit as good as you would expect from an EBS head. It does super clean, punchy and full as well as having the option of adding a bit of drive. I bought the case just before Christmas from BassDirect and it is in perfect order as you'd expect with all zips fully working and no tears or anything. Collection is from South Northants and you are welcome to come and try it out at full volume in my studio here at home. Trade option added for a mexican or japanese P bass.
22. For sale only No Trades £350 Absolutely brilliant cab in really good condition. This is smaller and lighter than a 410 with a smaller footprint. It will absolutely fill a room with bass and has awesome dispersion and off axis sensitivity. Unlike many Schroeders this doesn't have a big mid hump so sounds very full and natural. Comes with a fitted Roqsolid cover which is well used but thick and strong and does the job just great. I'm after £350 collected from South Northants and you are welcome to come and try it out at full volume here in my home studio. I'm really sad to be letting this go but we are having a new kitchen etc so need the funds. Thanks for looking. NOW WITHDRAWN Having raised funds elsewhwere - phew!
23. Looking great. As someone who has already trodden this path I can tell you it's the best thing I ever built. You will get so much out of having recording, rehearsal and general quiet time space at the end of the garden. Do you have plans for insulation (heat and noise) and humidity control? I get stick from her indoors as I spent far more money on security and air conditioning in the shed than I did in the house. That said, she loves the fact that all my guitars and amps no longer live in the house.
24. The lovely Bonita Delaney who sings in our function band is currently live on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and well worth a listen!
25.
It's as irrelevant as what a pop band looks like - which is not very irrelevant at all!
Hence an 8x10 which is surely more about appearance than necessity for 99.9999% of the bass playing population.
