1. Bump for a great head. I'll listen to all sensible offers and can courier at buyers expense.
2. From the other side of the fence, if you are a band and you are auditioning players you are usually grateful if: 1. Auditionee is on time. 2. Auditionee is prepared. 3. Auditionee has described themselves and their ability honestly in their advert. 4. Auditionee doesn't smell bad and generally is pleasant. Beyond that it's great when you find the right person but you certainly don't begrudge anyone who doesn't fit as long as they have adhered to points 1-4 so there's actually very little to be afraid of.
3.
Hi, I'm going to see Space Elevator tonight in High Wycombe! I played on their album, did a video with them and played at the 100 Club with them 18 months ago, but after that I bowed out and their bassist is now Chas Maguire, who plays on Don't Believe A Word. They are planning a second album with funding via Pledge Music. The fast and slow versions are similar to how Gary Moore did the track on his Back On The Streets album. Neil
Space Elevator are great. I did a function gig last year with Brian Greene on drums. Possibly the nicest drummer I've ever played with despite being a huge Wycombe Wanderers fan. GLWTS
4. Thanks Mark, that's really helpful. Totally agree with everything above as it has that real weight to the sound that I used to get with my old Berg NV412. If I could get away without selling this I would.
5. Here for sale only is my pristine EBS HD350 in a Gator soft rack case. NOW SOLD THANKS Amp is in excellent condition and sounds every bit as good as you would expect from an EBS head. It does super clean, punchy and full as well as having the option of adding a bit of drive. I bought the case just before Christmas from BassDirect and it is in perfect order as you'd expect with all zips fully working and no tears or anything. Collection is from South Northants and you are welcome to come and try it out at full volume in my studio here at home. Trade option added for a mexican or japanese P bass.
6. For sale only No Trades £350 Absolutely brilliant cab in really good condition. This is smaller and lighter than a 410 with a smaller footprint. It will absolutely fill a room with bass and has awesome dispersion and off axis sensitivity. Unlike many Schroeders this doesn't have a big mid hump so sounds very full and natural. Comes with a fitted Roqsolid cover which is well used but thick and strong and does the job just great. I'm after £350 collected from South Northants and you are welcome to come and try it out at full volume here in my home studio. I'm really sad to be letting this go but we are having a new kitchen etc so need the funds. Thanks for looking. NOW WITHDRAWN Having raised funds elsewhwere - phew!
7. Looking great. As someone who has already trodden this path I can tell you it's the best thing I ever built. You will get so much out of having recording, rehearsal and general quiet time space at the end of the garden. Do you have plans for insulation (heat and noise) and humidity control? I get stick from her indoors as I spent far more money on security and air conditioning in the shed than I did in the house. That said, she loves the fact that all my guitars and amps no longer live in the house.
8. The lovely Bonita Delaney who sings in our function band is currently live on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and well worth a listen!
9.
It's as irrelevant as what a pop band looks like - which is not very irrelevant at all!
Hence an 8x10 which is surely more about appearance than necessity for 99.9999% of the bass playing population.
10. Our drumist uses an app on his tablet that silently indicates the beat by flashing a big red dot. It keeps him bang on....... Most of the time.
11. I find that raising the issue publicly on FB page and Twitter can be very good at either getting you what you want or getting a bit of compensation for your wasted time. I never would have condoned such behaviour a year or so ago but recent issues with UPS and Dell were both finally only resolved to my satisfaction after doing just that.
12. What sort of thing would interest you as a trade?
13.
Don't know what this would fetch in decent nick, but my AH-150 might be worth over £100. Big deal. Assuming your unit is worth c.£50 at best, and there'd be quite a buggeration factor in trying to realize that, why not give it to a local Secondary School Engineering Dept as a repair project which can then (is successful, obv) be used by their Music Dept?
I tried that at a local school two years ago. They told me that the students aren't allowed to repair electrical equipment that is to be used as its an insurance no no. They told me that if I had it repaired they would happily take it. In the end I gave it to the chap who was (at the time) giving me lessons and he donated it to one of his students.
14. If you want to try a different amp / cab / bass etc then I'm only 20mins from you and happy to have a listen and let you try any of my stuff.
15.
I'd say if you can go with IEM do it.... it's way better than floor monitors and a lot less to carry around. We spent a fair amount getting a decent set up though but it was worth it. Using a mix of wireless and hard wired (drums/Keys) kept the cost down a bit and we all run our own tablet with the mix app so we have control over individual mixes..... No feedback, no volume issues.
+1 In ears rule especially good ones and they definitely reduce the volume of gear you have to cart. If you can stretch to ACS in ears then isolation from cymbals etc is excellent.
16.
anyone had experience with John's guitar electronics?
Yep. I've had an East pre in a stingray which was awesome and now i have one in my Jazz and that too is absolutely brilliant. John is a really nice chap so why not give him a call, tell him your end goal and he'll tell you if he can help you achieve it (I'd be amazed if he couldn't).
17. I do about 100 gigs a year. I have 2 basses (Jap 75RI Jazz with J-retro + MM SR5 HH) one 4 string one 5 string. Both go to every gig but I mainly use the SR5 now (only had it a couple months). I'm not overly precious with either but both are in really good condition, I have no idea what people do to get their basses so mojo'd.
18.
You could also consider the Soundcraft Ui 16 http://www.soundcraf...m/products/ui16
I looked at one at the time as the price is good but it only has 12 inputs and 4 aux sends. The behringer XR18 has 16 mic inputs, 2 line inputs and 6 aux sends. What sold it (and what convinces me we made the right choice) is that essentially it has the same brain and wifi as the X32 and that's been a huge hit with engineers.
19.
My Latest offerings.... Reccorded live in Brighton https://www.youtube....h?v=lkJMaST0PiA https://www.youtube....h?v=lLPU95h_j5Y https://www.youtube....h?v=gaPGaqpHgtI More Bass!!!
Really nice. enjoyed that a lot.
20. 100% agree. Finding a brilliant drummer that you really click with just transforms everything and I think as much as anything for me it's the confidence that they will deliver the swing and be n the money that allows me to relax more. We don't have that at the moment so current guy is on borrowed time sadly but we do have some great players interested.
21. Can thoroughly recommend the behringer X air / XR stuff. We use an XR 18 and it's genius. Has it's own wifi router built in so doesn't rely on you having an additional external router and it just sounds great. All the guys can control their own monitor mixes using their phones or ipads. We used it a few weeks back to record a gig and it was so simple. We just plugged in a laptop running reaper, hit record at the start and spent no more than 10mins per track remixing at home afterwards. With less than 1 hour's work we have 5 demo tracks and no studio cost. Best £500 we ever spent as a band. 22. We all wear quality plugs in our band (functions) and we don't have issues. We have a great pa so use that to get correct foh level and our onstage level is generally very low. Imo not wearing plugs is pretty daft.Occasionally at larger shows we use in ears where it's not an issue. anyone who plays for us and then turns up his / her volume throughout the gig to the point that they start to blow the mix gets one warning. If they continue to do it they're out. Luckily we don't have any morons in the band so it's not a common issue. Very rarely do we play pubs but if we do will usually have some mics on the kit. Our regular drummer is more than happy to play quietly whilst still maintaining great energy and dynamics. Mics on drums is fine anywhere if done to get a full sound. Using mics and making the kit too loud for the venue is no different to having your amp too loud.
23. Royal British Legion in the Challows south Oxon. Really nice place with a big stage decked in fairy lights and lots of real fir trees. Big range of ages (14-90) but a very enthusiastic crowd of over 250 and a packed dancefloor. 3x40 min sets and a couple £k made it not only fun but a very tidy earner. Calendar for 2016 already pretty much full - happy days.
