1. Speechless that this is still here. If I had the money I'd have it in a heartbeat. GLWTS
2. I have one of these and the neck is absolutely gorgeous. GLWTS
3. Maybe somebody returned one so they had one in stock again. Either that or they did a stock take and found one they didn't realise they had. Either way you win.
4. Total respect for a great artist. I would love to see her broaden her horizons now though as I don't doubt she would be utterly brilliant at whatever she does and I can't listen to sad songs endlessly. Genuine talent though and a great grounded person.
5. I've played bass for 24yrs and drums for less than 2. I'm a far better drummer than bass player and have already done functions, festivals and a corporate show on drums but I just have no urge to play anything but bass. I think it's the pulava of transporting and setting them up. I'm not a bad bass player and have done some great (for me) gigs but naturally drums come more easily. I almost have to be talked into playing them. I also have issues with depression.
6. We're booked for a good payer at a social club. Email from guitarist today saying he won't be available so if anyone knows a good dep in Oxon area who wants to earn on NYE give me a pm.
7.
we've grabbed a second hand pair of RCF 325's
Really really good choice. They'll sound lovely and do the job for years.
8. Enjoy the breathing space and the fact you can have a fuller bass sound that doesn't clash with a rhythm player.
9. It always really makes me nervous when a drummer leaves as for me they are the most important member of the band. Good drummers are worth their weight in gold. All I'll advise is that you try a few as well as your mate and go for the one that puts a smile on your face when you play together. Good luck.
10. Johnny B Goode is a great tune with great energy and folk love it so why shouldn't it be played? People sometimes forget that playing live is for the enjoyment of the people listening and the players. If the open mic night is in a place with a mixed audience and the people playing enjoy it then it's going to be a winner. Glad you enjoyed your night
11. +1 for an active pa speaker or wedge monitor. It'll essentially just put out what you put in but louder.
12. I have used pmt Oxford, Northampton and Birmingham regularly. Oxford is a friendly shop although the smallest of the three. The other two are good also. I had to look after my nephew who lives in Birmingham for a day a few weeks back so we popped into pmt brum for a nose about. They let him play drums without batting an eyelid even when he wanted to try a £5k electric kit. I rarely buy basses or amps new so usually only pop in for smaller bits. Oxford and Northampton don't carry a wide selection of strings which is probably my only disappointment but it's hardly the end of the world.
13. Got a faith no more t shirt from the real thing tour in 1990. I was only 14 at that gig and shouldn't have been allowed in but my sister's mates boxed around me as we went in. I regularly gig in the suit my dad got married in back in 1968 if that counts.
14. If money was no object I'd pay for private tuition from that Marta lady on YouTube.
15. I have an HD350 and love it. It's so clean and articulate. Just like ebs Freak I don't like tubes in my signal path and that's why I went 350 not 650. I use a schroeder 21012 4ohm cab which has a good tweeter and the sound is just what I look for in a bass. Can't see where you are as I'm on mobile but if you're local you're welcome to come try mine.
16. Hey Jim, if you have a Talkbass account you can message Agedhorse (andy) and he'll be able to help you out if you ask nicely. He's sent me two sets now (the latest set are on their way as we speak). Don't throw the old ones away as it'll only be one that is faulty so if you keep them you'll have two spares.
17. I'm a young looking 38 so may get away with looking like an older brother :-D
18. We always choose the engineer first and the studio becomes secondary. In recent years we've used a chap called Matt Hyde based in Wimbledon a few times and he's been great to work with. Once we have his time booked we just hire a convenient and well equiped studio to track stuff in and then everything else is done at his home. He's worked for a lot of metal bands like Slipknott, Bullet For My Valentine and Funeral For A Friend but he's also done albums for Rodrigo Y Gabriella and others. I personally prefer this approach as it feels less compromised. You may like a particular studio for atmosphere and feel but their engineers may not be the right fit or vice versa.
19. Shame about the age restriction. I like what you do.
20. I think that on BC some people over price items, some people under price items and some get it spot on. It's when I find someone with good positive feedback, selling what I want at a price I find acceptable that I buy it. I'm happy for anyone, regardless of location, with whatever feedback, to advertise at whatever price they see fit. I will only pull the trigger when all my previously mentioned boxes are ticked. I really enjoy buying and selling on here as it's very rare that I come across anyone that isn't a pleasure to deal with.
21. Hmm my amp will run at 2 ohms. I could add this to my current 21012 and move planets.... Great cabs these, I bought mine following Mark's recommendation and am so happy that I did. GLWTS
22.
I've been looking after it for you, Tom. It's as good as the day I bought it from you. It's just that Old Father Time is hard on my heels!
I'm so tempted and am genuinely considering it. It is hands down the best cab I've ever used. My only problem is that I transport the band pa and I don't think I'd have room to get it in the car.
23. Eric Clapton at the Albert Hall on the "From The Cradle" tour. Refused to play any real classics and droned on with a load of self indulgent dull blues crap that made me want to top myself. Since then I can't stand the guy and every time he turns up at someone else's gig to do a "guest turn" I head for the bar.
