Whoop whoop. Thanks to Interparcel and UPS I've managed to transform my Saturday this weekend from having a mind numbingly tedious "lie in" followed by a hideous "easy day" in order to have a thrilling drive to South West London and deliver the bass I sold to a fellow BCer which was meant to be collected today by UPS...........but wasn't!

Exactly what it says on the tin. A 25m 16 in 4 out stage snake made by studiospares which has been barely used. All ins and outs working perfectly. Comes with cover for the stage box to keep dust etc out during transit. Collection prefered from south Northants. Can courier at buyers cost (about £20 as it's a little heavy). For sale is my Mackie ONYX 1640i firewire mixer - £400 A fabulous mixer for live bands and recording which has been meticulously looked after and lived its whole life in a flightcase I made for it on the day it arrived. Perfect for any medium sized gigging band with 16 XLR mic preamps. This is the firewire version so can be hooked up to a laptop or PC to become a 16 channel interface. We have used this feature to record countless live shows and then after remixing and mastering we send the bride / groom a little surprise with a copy of their wedding gig on CD. We have also used it for studio recording at home. Please note however that this version is not compatible with Windows 8 or Windows 10. We have used both Windows 7 and Windows Vista with it without issue but I know that Mackie made a newer version of it which was for current Windows operating systems. We simply installed Windows 7 on our recently aquired laptop to run it. It's in A1 condition with not a single crackly pot or noisy channel, absolutely everything works as it should and it's clearly been built to last. I have the original box too! I also have a pristine 25m Studiospares 16/4 stage snake for sale for £100 but will include it with this mixer for an extra £50 if buyer wants it. Prefer collection from South Northants due to size and weight but if buyer wants to organise a courier then I will happily seek a box big enough, provide dimensions and weight and be available for courier collection.
RCF are ok...the benchmark is QSC in this mid level market, IMO.
You see this is where it's subjective. We had QSC KW122s and got shot of them in favour of RCF722s because we found the RCF's sounded so much more natural and the throw on them was noticeably better.

Don't worry about the power rating. Look at SPL for a better idea of how loud they are. 1000 watts through naff drivers in a poorly designed box may give an SPL of 120db at 1m but 200 watts through quality drivers in a well designed enclosure may give 130db at 1m which is a whole lot more volume. Have a good listen to any speakers you are considering buying. Some sound boxy, some sound harsh and some sing beautifully. Personally I'm not convinced by Mackie SRM 450's because they get very harsh as the volume goes up if you're putting guitars and drums through them. If you can afford it look for tops with a 2inch tweeter as they tend to be a bit smoother at high volume. Subs are a good way of taking some pressure off the tops but unless the sub can put the signal to the tops with the lows removed or the tops have a way of filtering out the lows you may still end up driving the tops hard.
Does anyone use ear plugs on stage? Any you'd recommend?
If you're prepared to spend the moolah - and really you should because it's your hearing and you'll never get it back if you lose it - then you're perfectly located for a trip to ACS who are based in your very town: Units 22-23 Beaumont Close Banbury Oxfordshire OX16 1TG United Kingdom They're really friendly and their ear plugs are as good as you'll find anywhere. Good luck at The Bell on Friday - used to play there all the time till I quit the pub band scene. Fun pub to play for sure.

This is still for sale as I've had no further comms from Brother Jones. Happy to post within the UK at buyers expense - there's no case but I do have a proper bass shaped cardboard box and a huge amount of really good bubble wrap. Postage outside UK possible but buyer will need to arrange the courier. Collection from South Northants also possible and I have a rehearsal space at home where you can plug into a decent amp or feel free to bring your own.

For sale is my lovely Yamaha TRB 5 II from 1998. I believe the colour is called Sunburst but it's a very gentle fade over really nicely grained wood. It is a brilliant bass that is super versatile and for a 17yr old instrument it is in fantastic condition. 100% original. The build quality is as good as you'll find and the neck is a beauty. It has two Yamaha soapbar pickups and an active 3 band eq. Weight is 4.6 kg Nut width is 43mm String spacing at the bridge is 18mm There are three dings. 1st is on the front just below the pickup blend knob (to the right of the knob in the 2nd pic as the bass is upright). This is the largest (about 13mm long and 1.5mm wide) but is quite hard to see as it is in the clear lacquer not the wood. The 2nd is tiny (3mm x 1.5mm) also on the front above the pickups but is only really noticeable to touch unless you are really (and I mean really) looking for it. The last is on the top edge (4mm x 2mm) and barely noticeable. All are pictured as best I can manage. The gold hardware has signs of ageing (lost a little shine in places) but its 17 yrs old. What more can I say. It's basically a really high class 5 string that sounds beautiful, plays great (the action goes really low if you want) and looks the business. It has been well looked after from new and will hold it's own with basses 4 times the price. Got one yesterday on a bass I bought from here. Initially I thought it was going to be unusable as it kept coming back up to E out of tune but a swift look at the hipshot video explaining how to tune it and now I can see it's going to be a real asset.

I played a short showcase set at the Freddie Gee drum academy in Winchester a couple of years ago. I used a GK MB200 into a 4 ohm berg 2 x 12. It was more than loud enough to keep up with Gregg Bisonette playing at full war volume with headroom to spare. Unless you want super super clean and have a feather light touch the only way 200watts isn't enough for a pub is if your cab isnt efficient enough. I see no problem with having 500-1000 watts though as the prices are reasonable and all of these amps have a volume knob so can be used at home too.
Our coated strings are called EXP, they last at least 4 times longer than our un-coated strings. To find the right set of EXP take the Item # of your regular un-coated set e.g. EXL170 and change out the L for a P i.e. EXP170.
Awesome - two sets ordered! Thank you.
