How is the cat? Why did it freak out?
The cat is ok. He's got an ongoing kidney issue but is over the worst. He freaks out at the vet because he's a shy type of cat and gets really scared. I don't blame him at all as it's totally not in his nature to scratch or bite he just doesn't like strangers and the vet has to examine him thoroughly (lots of squeezing of tummy and back legs) which really upsets him. I hadn't realised how dangerous animal bites are. The doctor was annoyed that i didn't go straight to hospital as pretty much 100% of cat bites that puncture skin get infected. When I told him I was a bass player he pointed out that infections in the hands can do permanent tendon damage if left untreated. On a plus I must say that the staff at Northampton General were great. It's a really well run hospital from what we saw and despite being there at 11pm on a sat night we were in and out in an hour and a half.

Had to cancel gig tonight thanks to our bloody cat. Took the little bugger to the vet this morning and he got so freaked out he bit me. Not just a nip either but right down to the bone in my right hand. Hand now swollen and painful as hell so the wife and I just endured a sat night sat in a&e. Turns out it's a good job we went as they were quick to put my arm in a high sling, administer strong antibiotics and a tetanus shot. Got to go back daily for the foreseeable. Gonna buy the little bugger a toothbrush tomorrow.

Thanks chaps, I've emailed Hartke returns with pics and copied in Gareth (Hartke Brand manager UK) and Larry Hartke himself. Ideally I just want my money back so I can move on and buy something reliable. Such a shame as the Kilo sounds great...............when it works.

Ask 500 people to put your songs in order and you'll get 500 different lists. Just worry about your set openers and last 4 in each set and you'll be golden. Nice songs btw........except the Coldplay - snore!

Well after my last saga with my Hartke Kilo and poor retailer service a month or so ago I'd really hoped my issues were over. Sadly just a couple of weeks after receiving the head back from korg, where it was repaired under warranty as it wouldn't work in bridge mono mode, it packed up mid gig at a wedding. I contacted Korg directly to get it looked at again as I live pretty close to their head office and I needed a speedy turnaround with lots of gigs in the calendar. Well I dropped it off last Tuesday and they looked at it this week. I got the call to say it was ready for collection today. So this afternoon I trundled over to Milton Keynes to pick it up. The repair note said "LH channel power amplifier had a high offset. Replaced LH channel assembly. Power, load and fan cycling tested. **Please note that especially in bridge mode the speaker impedance must not be lower than 4 ohms as this will cause the amplifier to go into protection mode after approx 20/30 minutes. Additionally there must be free ventilation around the unit." I have only ever run the head with my 4 ohm Berg NV412 and it always lived in a 6u rack case by itself so I'm happy I fulfilled the recommended criteria. So tonight I have unpacked the head, put it in a new case then my jaw dropped when I looked at the front and saw the 1K slider channel on the eq has been damaged. I could cry. It may not look like much but I look after my gear really well and I know this wasn't there before and if this is what I can see what have they damaged inside? I'm not sure what to do now. I'm absolutely sick of this amp now. It has spent a total of 8 weeks away from me in its 1st yr and I'm going to have to send it back again. It is marketed as being the amp that Geezer Butler uses but it overheats easily and is clearly fragile when putting out the 1000watts that is key to it's marketing strategy (Kilo = 1000 - it's in the name!). I've played for 25yrs, played over 1000 gigs and never encountered an amp I trust as little as this one. Add to that the fact that it's now visibly damaged (god knows what it's like inside). I am going to email Hartke tonight and spend the rest of the bank holiday weekend fuming about it.

Agree with the above. Self builds and builds by authorised builders are rarely a cheap option in the UK. The cost of drivers, wood and other parts is sky high here so you can quickly find yourself in Aguila / vanderkley / berg price range if you're not careful. That said I've built heaps of greenboy cabs and they do sound good. I do however think the new Bill Fitzmaurice simplexx cabs are a really strong contender now too.

Don't mention Hartke to me. My Kilo is a piece of dog crap and has spent more time being repaired than sitting on top of my cabs. Biggest waste of money I ever spent.

Can you Bi-Amp the Thomann amp to do something like 2 x 500w at 8 Ohm?

I need some covers for my new BFM cabs so will contact them tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up! -
Touch of delay and even lighter touch of reverb does it for us.

Our old drummer was a proper PITA and kept marking himself "unavailable" on our calendar. Refused to let us bring in a dep for ages until we threatened to kick him out. He reluctantly agreed that if he got to choose the dep we could use one. Stupid prat asked his mate who's twice the drummer he is. Funny thing is our old drummer one snogged his mate's girlfriend so when we jokingly asked the dep if he wanted to do it full time he laughed and said he'd love to. Rest is history lol.

Spent a large part of last year playing big hair metal with a deeply inappropriate "Steel Panther"esqe twist in a band called "Iron Pussy. We mixed covers with songs we wrote ourselves. It peaked in a gig which saw us play at a residential drum academy where we were joined on stage by Gregg Bisonette, Ian Matthews, Steve White and Craig Blundell. After that things lost momentum and died after our singer had to return to the states after his visa expired. The project was masterminded by my drummer friend who also plays in my main function band. Last night at our gig my drummer asked me if I'd want to give it a go again. He has found a new singer and a new guitarist, both of which are pros (this makes me the only amateur) who are really up for it. I knew he was looking and we have casually been writing together. The aim now is to focus on the original stuff whilst keeping covers in the locker. I agreed and now the work starts. Time to get the wig out lol

Request: Borrow a 1x12 Cab on Saturday?
mrtcat replied to Steve Woodcock's topic in General Discussion
I could lend one of my new BFM simplex 1x12 cabs in return for a frank and honest review on the BFM and BC forums. I'm not in London but can probably arrange to relay it up. -
I think as mentioned before that the demand may not be sufficiently high to bring prices down. However a decent small class d amp with minimal colouration in a tidy package would surely be popular enough with many people even if it's not much cheaper than a version with pre built in. I'd love to play with people who would embrace this approach but sadly every time I mention it to either of my bands I get derision and looks of disgust from all involved.

Will be gigging a pair of simplex 1x12s from next weekend onwards. Dates are here www.crudemeasure.co.uk Anyone who wants to drop by my place with their amp and have a play on the cabs is welcome to. I'm in Northants nr Towcester / Silverstone. I make decent tea :-)

I found tc lacked real weight. Just my opinion. -

I think a pair of simplex 15s or a single 15 and a simplex sub would give you a better result. They'd be heavier but still light compared to others. -

Hey Steve, it's 20"wide 17"high and 15" deep. It'll go pretty low if you use something like kappalite 3012lf but that'll need plenty of power to drive it as the tradeoff for big low end is the fact it's not the most efficient option. For dub reggae you would be better with the 15" version that is a little bigger. The 12" version weighs a touch under 16kg with the neo driver. Component costs will depend on the options you go for. With a kappalite 3012lf, ply, paint, corners handles etc you won't see much change from £350. I would offer to build you one but my local ply supplier no longer stocks decent stuff so I have to travel quite a distance to get it. Factor that in and after labour you'd be into bergantino price territory. This is why I'll be giving up building this yr. If you buy the plans from bill fitzmaurice website you'll see its a straightforward build so I'd recommend having a go yourself. -

Thanks Mark, it's a couple of inches smaller than the J12 in pretty much each direction which was the deciding factor for me as I'm looking at using the car for gigs instead of the van from here on in. It's light like a jack too especially with the neo driver. An easy enough build though.
