1. The TE stuff is nice if you don't have to move it lol. My was a 11 band EQ TE head and it is pretty good.
2. I find it without the sub the bass is have decent out front, but of course depend what type of tone you going for. I'm a mid heavy person so DI the bass via the PA with no sub sounded ok. Not ideal but it get the job done if anything happen.
3.
I hope you don't mind if I ask a potentially stupid question. Have you been able to tweak the MXR so that the sound that comes out via the DI is as exact as possible to mimic the sound of your amp coming through your speaker?
Depend what you trying to do, no the MXR does not replica the sound of my actual amp or speaker. To do that you probably need to mic your cab ...... My bass tone is pretty clean and the DI only provide more bass out front for me so I can get away not using big cabs ...... and also act is backup.
4. CTM100 is a good choice. The LB30 is suppose to be a studio amp just like many 30-50watt practice amp suppose to be practice amp. If some people can get away using a 50watt practice combo for gig then I can't see why the LB30 can't be use in those situation. Using a LB30 on a gig is a tricky one. First you need a decent sensitive cab to run it. I would suggest a good 2x12 for portability. Also if the bass will be DI then using LB30 is not really a problem consider your band don't play loud on stage. I have gig with a 50watt orange practice combo before (not my mine) but the bass was DI. I'm sure the LB30 will be way louder then the orange 50watt combo .....
5. Either a micro amp as backup or bring a DI with you. I use my MXR M80 bass preamp DI for backup. Actually since I have a monitor myself for gig I can gig with a smaller amp for stage monitor and DI my bass to the PA at the same time and pump some bass on the monitor. If my amp dies on a gig, I'm still ok.
6.
I play one through an Ampeg 4x10 and it is most definitely louder than my previous 250watt solid state ampeg (something? I cant remember the model! Something with rack ears...) I think the secret for getting a good sound is to hit the front of it with a clean boost (or play an active bass perhaps?) Not enough to get over drive, but just a good volume jump. I play in a wedding band and at church with mine and it never struggles against a loud drummer and 2 30 watt valve orange guitar amps! My only complaint is that carrying a 4x10 to gigs for £100 a night is a pain... Maybe I should bite the bullet and get a MarkBass combo.
How do you use yours LB30? I start using my on the high input to pad down the gain so when push high volume it won't overdrive too much. If I use the low input and push pass 12 o'clock it will start to get more distortion. What will a clean boost do?
7. I recently done a gig without an amp and only using my MXR M80 bass DI direct to the PA (without sub). The bass sounded pretty decent, I much prefer having an amp. I guess if I run my LB30 to a small 2x10 or 2x12 as stage monitor and DI the bass to the PA for some extra boost, I would be happy with the result. For some reasons apart from the drummer, the guitarist and keyboard player want to hear my bass, so having the bass via the monitor would do they good. I'm consider shifting my Trace GP11 amp.
8. If this amp still for sale next month, i will snatch it off you. I need an amp that can fit in a mini and this might be the one.
9. I prefer two 1153. Easy to move and can always use one for smaller gig where 2x15 is not needed. I gig with one 1153 atm, but looking to add another 1153 if their is one in the market
10. If I have the money the RS stacks will be my ideal solution. It keeps me happy and my wife happy since it won't take alot of space and it looks cool. She is complaining about my Trace rig at the moment saying how ugly it is ..... (wears and tears). I told her I sold all my good stuff which looks nice for something decent but cheap ....... she looked at me and felt guilty.
11. Is a shame I have to part way the BC212 i use to own. I own 2 and sold both at the end due to lack of space and financial problem. Due to financial problem I gone a step backward and use old trace elliot stuff. Wish i still got the two BC212 cabs.
12. I say add another 2x12 to make it 6x12. Louder then 8x10
13. 4x12 certainly will be louder then the 4x10 and size wise not much different on the TC BC cabs. The good thing about this is you can always use a single 2x12 for smaller gigs and use both on bigger ones
14. I personally would just leave it ........ I play and own 2 warwick before. They are both warwick corvette. 1 is 4 string and the other one is 5 string. Both were passive originally but I made change so they both become active. The 4 string was EMG active jazz and 2 band John East and the 5 string was Bartonlini jazz and 3 vand John East pre. Both sounding different but also can sound very deep on the low end which I can't replicate the same tone on a different bass. I personally think the wood on the warwick bass gives you the tone.
15. I take it you replace your 4x10 with the 4x12
16. Where about are you in Manchester?
17. I play in a church band on sunday as well and our church uses a Trace Elliot 1x15 combo (green carpet). I find it the Trace Elliot sound suits church music quite well actually.
18. I'm in Manchester and would be interesting. What are the weight on this? Fancy trade or cash only?
19. I've tried the LB30 on a gig last night when we did the sound check. We played in a bat which is a small venue in my eyes. I plugged my bass in the high input to lower the gain on the pre section. My bass was passive. I had the volume crack to 3 o'clock position and no sign of dirt on the tone, which is a good thing. Our band doesn't play too loud and the volume I get on the LB30 probably just be enough but any higher the LB30 will struggle. I played the amp via a Trace Elliot 1153 cab. I personally think if I run the LB30 on a 2x12 bareface or some kind of 4x10 cab it will be alright to gig. If the venue have PA to DI the bass, my LB30 will definite be enough to gig with.
20. Played a gig last night and I took the following amp equipment with me. 1x Ashdown LB30 1x Trace Elliot GP11 1x Trace Elliot 1153 cab We played in a small venue bar last night with the PA only for vocal and keys. Everything else is back line. I decided to try the LB30 first to see if I can get enough juice out. At the end although I can get away of using the LB30 when I crack the volume to near full and use high input to lower the gain, so the tone is pretty clean. I ended up not to use the LB30 and gone with the Trace Elliot instead. On the Trace Elliot I had the gain and volume at 12 o'clock postion. Is a 11 band EQ and I had the following settings. -3 db on 40hz +3 db on 100hz +6 db on 180hz +3 db on 340hz everything else is on 0 db. When I walked out to the front and do the sound check the bass sound lovely and cut in nicely but when I close to my amp and play the bass solo it sounded harsh like abit of distortion is added. At that point I decided to leave it as it is and play the gig since it sounded decent and no more time to mess around with EQ etc. It got wondering is the cab farting out or too much low mid to cause this?
21. I guess I will have to try one to decide.
22. Thats good to know, I intended to keep my LB30. I only gig with it once and the amp pretty stay at home for practice and recording. I tend to use my old trace for gig.
23. I wanted to buy one of the midi controller for home recording purpose. For my budget I came across to the 2 M-Audio midi controller below: Oxygen 25 and the Axiom mini 32. Was wondering whats the pros and cons on the two except one of the pitch bend dial and one have the pad thing.
24. I saw that deal as well. Good stuff ..... but can't they offer matching cab instead. Like get a 2x10 or 1x15 and get another 2x10 or 1x15 etc free instead of the 2x12. Get a 2x12 and get another 2x12 free kind of thing.
25. Can you actually hear different between the LB30 and the LB550? They both uses the same valve pre but one is a valve power output and the other is solid state 500 watt i guess.
