TE weight is heavy ..... i use a lighter cab like TE 1153 which is manageable. If I can source a second one it would be decent rig to use. Altho they are heavy, if you can lug a ampeg 8x10 around then moving the TE is not really a problem lol.
-
Remember the LB30 head wasn't design to be gig ...... is more like a studio amp. The amp can be gig just like some player gig with a 50watt practice amp ........
-
I actually got back using old trace rig ...... first I need to cash in on my modern stuff and second they are loud and sounded good when you know what you doing on the EQ. My GP11 and 1153 cab sounded good together. I sometimes use my Ashdown LB30 on the cab and it also sounded good as well. If you can put up with the weight, is a clear winner here.
-
The LB30 is all valve head so it will run full power whether you use 4ohm or 8ohm cab. By running it at 4ohm and connect 2x 8ohm cabs you can use more speakers to push more air. I heard from some BC memeber that BF cab works best with the LB30 because is a sensitive cab. I'm running mine on a old Trace Elliot 1153 atm and it sound pretty good actually.

Is louder then you expected ...... you probably will be ask to turn down depend on what cab you using ....

Works fine when the computer is turn off. Thanks for all the advice guys Learn something new every day lol.
-
Thats good to know, at least i know my amp don't have problem and it still working as I expected lol.
-
Try it in a different room and it works fine, probably the wall socket share the same with my computer wall socket which causes the problem. As long as I know it works fine then I'm all cool. I mainly practice using headphone at home most of the time anyway.

I recently moved house and took all my gear with me to the new house. After a few days of madness I have manage to setup my computer and all the bass gear in a room. First thing I do is to play some bass but when I turn my Trace Ellio GP11 on it have some static/popping noise constantly on (not high volume) but when I start plugging away you can't really hear it specially on high volume or away from the amp. This only happen after moved house. I thought is the power cable or speaker cable is causing the problem, so I try the same cables on my Ashdown LB30 and everything is fine going into the same cab (Trace 1153). So I thought is the extension cable is causing the problem so I plug the amp directly to the power socket but it still have the static/popping noise. It haven't done this before in the old house ....... not sure what is the problem. Only thing is different is the amp is now next to my pc and mac where as before it sits in a different room. Is the amp is broken or I should stop worrying about it and still use it on a gig because it doesn't effect the tone.

I have actually gig with one but it just have enough juice in my band to get away. My band is not loud and we play in a small venue at that time. If the bass is DI and stage volume is low and controllable then it will probably do the track. If is straightly backline with no PA support, you will struggle ...... unless you use something like a 8x10 then it might be ok ...... but that kinda defeat the purpose of using an small amp.
Yup but the thread is talking about bands using gear at the bigger festivals... We know affordable gear is important to people hence why we work hard to make the best amps at affordable price points for the weekend warriors as well as bonkers handbuilt amps like the BTA 400 etc
No prob with that. Just want to clarify, I like Ashdown product and I even own a LB30 from brand new myself. No way on earth I will sell that amp.
No disrespect badboy but you really think the following players use Ashdown because they found a good 2nd hand deal on Ebay? Guy Pratt Norman Watt Roy Jah Wobble Nate Mendel - Foo Fighters Nick O'Malley - Arctic Monkeys Pino Palladino Paul McCartney JJ Burnel James LoMenzo Bruce Foxten James Johnston - Biffy Clyro Adam Clayton - U2(Bought a CTM 300 to record their new album with) Jeremy Davis - Paramore Ross MacDonald - The 1975 Will Farquarson - Bastille Shavo - System of A Down Matt Barnes - You Me At Six Lenny Kravitz Arcade Fire Etc Etc All in need of cheap amps?
Ashdown, When I make that statement I was only stating on what I seen. I seen tons of Ashdown product floating around ebay, gumtree etc that sells for pretty cheap in my opinion. Not to mention some lower to mid range Ashdown product is well within affordable price as well. Artist and some other players may choose to use Ashdown because they like the tone and the quality they get but their are also some players looking for some decent quality piece of kit but only have limited budget, so therefore second hand amp is what they go for. I chosen to buy Ashdown myself because I like the tone and the product. No disrespect but I'm only stating the obvious.

I personally think the Ashdown ABM and the valve amp is lovely and not muddy at all. I do have problem with the MAG and Blueline series which tend to be very bass and doesn't sound well in the band.
-
I choose ashdown because of price and is decent product. I choose the LB30 because not much choice in the market apart from buying ampeg b15 but that will cost me alot more.
-
I think is a personal preference thing really ........ sometimes festival gigs band shared backline equipments. I can only think of why people use ashdown because they can be found fairly decent price second hand and even brand new it sell cheaper then most markbass stuff in my opinion.

Is 5 watt so I would imagine you need to crack fairly high to move the speaker. I don't think this is a valve amp so you don't need a load to turn it on.

Warwick Vampyre Bass LTD 4 2003/013 MINT... Value??? HELP!

Depend how long you stay in the UK till you go back to the US. Placing the bass in here on the sale forum will attract interest and you probably get a better sale price then taking it to a store or cash generator type of shops. Your other option is to stick it on ebay ....... Muy experience of buying and selling in this forum is always positive and alot of BC people can be trusted. -
Hmm, doesn't seem to bother me that much because I'm full on most of the time but sometimes I do use the tone to cut some treble on certain songs. It just interesting the guitar tech wire it this way and I might actually keep it like that.
-
My bass originally is a Precision bass with 1x volume and 1x tone. I have modded to make the bass become P/J bass with 2x volume (stacked) and 1x tone. Ideally I liked 2x stack pots for the bass so each stack control the volume and tone for that particular pickup so the p and j pickup will have individual volume and tone. After many weeks my guitar tech I always goes to finally source the correct part to make this work and the bass look and sounded fantastic. I realise one problem when I tried it out last night. First the volume for each pickup works correctly but the tone does not. For example if I solo the bridge pickup by turning the p volume down the p pickup tone still engage. So that means if I turn the p pickup tone down it cut the treble off when I solo the bridge pickup. What makes it interesting is the bridge pickup tone can also work at the same time to cut even more treble. This means I now have 2x master tone ...... I'm still wondering shall I take it back and get it fix or 2x master tone actually work better?

Warwick Vampyre Bass LTD 4 2003/013 MINT... Value??? HELP!

Like throwoff said, it would be hard to sell the bass within a week. I remember trying to sell my warwicks in the pass and it was pain unless you willing to trade or sell for very low price. -
Trace elliot cab is very loud in my experience. I own a 1153 myself and is loud for a single 15". Not sure is band gigging louder and louder these days or people just play too quiet in the old days. My trace 15" and a trace amp is loud enough, anything bigger then a small venue you probably DI to the desk ....
-
Altho in a ideal situation having a gain knob and volume knob separate is good thing, but the amp still rocks with me lol. Many have suggested using the -15db input to lower the gain and then crack the volume up to get more clean tone.
-
Is a Trace Elliot by the way lol.
-
I think they might be similar size to the Ashdown Little Bastard LB30. Might be slightly wider by a fraction.
As I said on your status thing the other day, I'm in the same boat as you, tonally it's an amazing bass but the weight is definitely a factor to consider when buying this!
I own 2 corvette in the past, 4 string and 5 string both sounded fantastic. The 4 string have EMG pickup and John East pre and the 5 string have bartolini pickup and John East pre. Both have a monster of tone but weight and kinda unbalance neck put me off. If those things doesn't bother you, then is a bargain of a bass to grab. I always think 5 string corvette sounded much better then a 4 string corvette.
