1. Do a John Myung on his bass ........ disable all the EQ knob on the bass and keep the volume knob active.
2. The LB30 is a great amp. Nice valve warm tone. I love my, with decent cab and not in a loud band, this amp can be gig in small venue.
3. I used to own a BH500 and 2x BC212. Like above said, the weight is nothing for the stack. I eventually sold the head and one of the cab because I need room in the house. Kinda regret actually because I'm planning to buy another BC212 again.
4. I was using the main bands bass amp on a gig once because the venue sound guy said it will be easier if everyone uses the same bass amp so less mess around for bass tone. During our set in my band the bass amp start to cut on and off occasionally and I was like, i wish i was using my own amp because I know it will be reliable .........
5. If gibson planning to make a 5 string or 6 string les paul bass i'm interest lol.
6. The reason they do that because they probably endorse artist so thats why they need the brand name on stage ....... I've seen Mr Big live performance on DVD and Billy Sheehan have like 4-6 Ampeg 8x10 on stage but they all have no bass head attach to it and Paul Gilbert have several marshall stack on stage but the amp head is not power on ......
7. The problem I find with passive bass is, the volume is either full or off ...... turning the volume down a little it seems to lose alot of volume and tone as well.
8.
If you have to, then why aren't we all using little combo's and letting the PA do the heavy work?
I don't even use an amp or cab in large venue. I Di straight to the desk lol.
9. My passive jazz bass with Dimarzio DP123 set have lower output then my passive P/J bass with Seymour Duncans.
10. Shame i have no money otherwise this would be perfect for me and I'm in Manchester too. I need to shift my BC212 in order to have enough for this lol.
11. Shame i have no money otherwise this would be perfect for me and I'm in Manchester too. I need to shift my BC212 in order to have enough for this lol.
12. I like one of those SWR 50watt combo. Only can find them in second hand these days ......
13.
Add £9 to your budget http://www.gak.co.uk...CFY_HtAodJhwAKw
Thats a good choice, i'm gonna throw the Ampeg BA110 in the mix as well.
14.
Don't forget to consider looks! If you have a rack-mount power amp, that will be 19in (48.3cm) wide. A cab that is much narrower than this may look a bit silly. Shallow I know, but I like a rig to look (as well as sound) bitchin'!
Don't we all, it bugs me when my Trace elliot head is wider then my TC BC212 cab standing vertically ...... another reason to buy another cab now so I can stack the cab horizontally so it look better when i put the head on the top .......
15. It depend what us your purpose for using separate preamp and power amp. I take it you got two 8ohms cab? If the power amp says it can go up to 2ohm then it will be perfectly fine running your cabs because two 8ohm = to 4ohm. With your poweramp can go to 2ohm that means you can drive two 4ohm cabs or four 8ohms cabs. If you intending to drive alot of cabinets then it make sense to use a separate poweramp for that power. If you ever planning to just use the 2 cabs you got, you personally would just stick with a bass head single unit. If I wanted to drive 2x 8x10 cabs then I definitely want a separate power amp.
16. In theory you are fine but will it sound good thats another question. Mixing speakers might not sound good.
17. Thats cool to know, my trace have a poweramp in a single case unit. Is one of those very early 80's one where Trace Elliot don't do specific amp head model, so lots of different poweramp were use with the GP11.
18. Do power amp colour your tone or does it only pump out power to drive your cabs?
19.
It's 450w (600 peak)
Is 450watt at 4ohm or 8ohm? If the amp pump out 450watt at 8ohm, this means the amp will pump out over 600watt at 4ohm i guess?
20. Cheers guys. Look like I will add another BC212 for extra volume, but I will try the Trace with the BC212 first. Like above mention the LB30 with 4x12 might be loud enough without getting dirty, something I would like to try lol.
21. I do stand the 2x12 vertically for hearing purpose and I tend to boost mid on live situation. The LB30 will start to get dirty if I match the volume with the band. I think I will give the Trace a try first before buying. Trace Elliot give me impression that they are very loud. Or Replace the 2x12 with the TC BC410 which is 4ohms so the Trace will dish out full power to the cab?
22. I've done gig in venue without an amp or cab. Just DI straight to the desk and use onstage monitor and it works quite well actually.
23. The Trace Elliot amp is with Roland Lumby for a full service atm but I got a feeling that it will be loud enough on its own. My LB30 is loud enough with the BC212 but is not clean tone. I will give it a try first, if is not enough i just add a second cab or just swape out for the 410.
24. For cost and budget the BC212 kinda make sense because I already have a BC212. I will be planning to use 2 cabs at once because I use 1 cab on my last gig and is not that loud but that could be because I'm using a 30watt head. With the Trace Elliot head I could drive 2 of these BC212 for a bigger sound. We all know Trace Elliot head is loud and using 4x12 would be good i imagine.
25.
That's more of an integrated amp than a power amp, no?
I think he means just buy the CTM300 and problem solve lol.
