G&L is good. The one you looking at is the Tribute series. Uses the same electronic that the made in US model uses. I use to own a Tribute 5 string but kinda regret of selling it, is a nice bass.
I actually play the jazz model in the shop and it sounded really good.
Those pickups on the G&L is very powerful!
I may need to revisit the cab, I'm looking for a new cab for my Ashdown LB30. Not too keen with the TC BC212, i want something more vintage tone like ashdown or ampeg.
If I'm looking for a precision right now I will probably grabbed that MIJ Fender P, but unfortunately I've assemble a P/J bass myself with all the requirement suit my needs already
Don't know what you think of warwick but this is a nice one but not sure do you like the neck profile etc. This one is made in Germany.

If you like stingray tone, you may want to consider this:

£399 for the musicman sub 4 string which is made in USA.
Ampeg cab is really nice, i really liked the tone out of the ampeg cabs, but is the weight that really kills me. Use to own a ampeg 410 and 115 but never really want to use it due to weight issue.
If weight is no issue i'm certainly happy to stay with ampeg cabs
String height, saddle etc is more for playing action. It doesn't affect tone, it only affect how comfortably i play the instrument. Pickup height will affect tone because the string and the pickup distance.
To me the best cab is the best cab that you can afford within your budget. We can recommend you to buy something really expensive and the quality and the tone is superb but not much point if you can't afford it.
With £400 budget we can only provide you what is value for money.
If weight an issue for you?
You can buy 2x used BC212 for that price. 4x12 is very very loud ........
I'm only stating TC stuff because it is cheap with decent quality, of course Berg, Markbass, Bareface is good but is pricy.
Depend on your budget. If you have a low budget i would say the BC series of the TC stuff. I use a TC BC212 and the tone is pretty good and is pretty light for a 212 as well. weight around 20kg
The thing is i've follow the rule when adjusting the truss rod but the string height can only adjust to a certain degree. I better get my trusted tech to have a look, he will answer me any question when i ask him. His a good chap.
I personally would go for the Ampeg BA110. I've got a BA108 but i should of bought the BA110 instead.
I mainly use headphone to practice these days so speaker size doesn't matter too much for me.
Apologies accepted and I agree with what you said. Some people do look down at other people because they have a more expensive guitar. Some times it could be they can't accept the fact that they paid so much money on a guitar but it only sound/feel slightly better.

No need to be offensive. I'm only stating my opinion.
