worst amp you have owned or had the luck to use
badboy1984 replied to stu_g's topic in Amps and Cabs
Worse amp i play is a stage bass combo and some very old peavey 1x15 combo. -
Is not possible for me to tried the Markbass CMD JB since the shop locally don't stock Markbass stuff. I use to own a LB250 so i know what to expect from the amp. Ampeg portaflex amp i'm kinda concern about the reliability compare to the markbass little 250. Ashdown VS112 i haven't try it yet, but 2 of them seem quite nice since is small and easy portable.

The thing is my budget is really really tight. Says i sell my TC rig privately (in here) i get around £500 if lucky otherwise trade in price it would be around £400. I can put extra £100-200 cash towards the new rig. Then only options i have are the following: - second hand PBJ Suitcase - Markbass CMD JB - Ashdown VS112 (possible 2x of these) and ampeg portflex head/little mark 250
-
i guess anything could goes down without warning but it also depend what the bass player was doing to the amp as well. Many says Ashdown fails on them but i never had a fail ashdown in the pass.

The whole was i not allow to have the stack in the house ...... otherwise i would just kept it and be happy with it. So i either use half stack or downsizing to something smaller either a combo or 1 cab and small amp. Thats why Phil Jones Bass Suitcase, Markbass CMD JB or Little Mark 250 with a small cab like ashdown VS112 etc. I'm interest in the idea of 2x ashdown VS112 and Little Mark 250 back line.

The whole combo is slightly heavy then my TC cab atm but weight less if cab and head together. The positive side is the combo is smaller then my TC cab which i'm sure my partner won't be complaining. Normally my bass amp will be DI in big gig so only use the amp as stage monitor. If the volume on stage is ok then thats fine by me. Like you said i can always add another cab to the PB combo.

The BH500 gives 500watt at 4ohm so running 1x 8ohm cab i would assume the wattage would be around 250-300watt. I never really need to crack too loud on my gig because i dial in more mid to cut into the mix rather then pumping out tons of low to mud everything up. I play new wave rock so lots of tons is kinda mid heavy rather then low end tone.

You kinda right about adding the extra cab would make it heavy and big. The whole point for me was to down size but still provide decent enough volume. I never needed my full 4x12 anyway, i always just use the 1 cab (2x12) and it provide me enough volume on small-med venue gigs. I would tend to go for 1 combo solution or 1 cab and 1 head (small ish) for portability and space at home. Really don't want to go back with 2 big cabs solution. Ashdown and Ampeg is way too heavy and big for my taste now. Use to love them but the size really make me not use them again. Still love the tone tho.

Maybe i should really drop in to the store and try the amp out and crack it loud as well to see how well it can handle. Alot of these reviews were mic so I will need to try them. The are smaller then my TC cabs which suits my need.

Have anyone have experience on one of these? http://www.philjones.../products/?id=9 I couldn't find some real user review on this product. I've saw this combo in a local store (second hand) for around £450-500. I could trade my TC rig for one of these for portability and downsize. Also their extension cab is not exactly expensive either. How loud can this combo gets? We talking about small-med venue? where sometimes we have PA support and sometimes is completely backline. We talking about down sizing from using a 4x12 to 4x5. Many reviews i read were praising how great the 5" speaker react and sound. So much praise to Phil Jones magic and i've not read any negative about that except looking at speaker size.

actually after looking at the rig, only the BH500 and BC212 doesn't look too big. Only look huge when stack both cab together. It kinda make me think i shall just sell 1 cab and use half stack instead. Since it still pump out decent wattage when running 1 cab. I would assume the amp pump out 300watt but the cab is only 250watt.

I've went into a local music shop today (PMT) and expected they don't have much decent amps in stock apart from standard stuff like ashdown and ampeg and few orange stuff (nothing small or light). So I search every corner they have in the bass department and i found a second hand Phil Jones Bass Suitcase that sell for around £450-500. I'm tempted becasue the shop offer my TC stack for around £350-400. Was wondering is the PB suitcase any good? and is it loud?

Please ignore trade price because it won't let me update ...... For sale is my TC Electronic BC212 cab. Collection would be prefer. Sale price for the cab would be £150 I'm no longer selling the whole rig because i'm down sizing to half stack so will only sell one 2x12 cab instead. Open to trade other non amp/cab items. i.e guitar, bass etc.

Our band been ask to play a charity gig in a local park, but the event organizer asked us what kind of PA system we require for the gig. Our band have no experience of doing park gig (open area) so we told him we will contact them soon about the arrangement. What sort of PA shall we ask for? (reasonable of course). i.e how many speakers, monitor, power of the PA etc? Our band consist of drumer, bass, guitar, keyboard and vocal. Shall we just run the vocal and keyboard to the PA only? or DI the guitar to the PA as well? and leave the bass and drummer backline sound only? Also haven't done a park gig so i not sure how much power do i need for my bass amp.

I was looking at the markbass mini CMD 121 like the one you have and I quite like it actually. Price wise it will cost abit even i sold my TC stack. I use to have a little mark 250 so thats why i was considering the Markbass CMD JB combo. For £400 it might do the trick since.
