New Rig

How happy am I???? Today I unexpectedly became the owner of a spanking new [s]BFM[/s] Barefaced Compact. A belated-birthday/thank you for helping build a log-cabin present from my MD at work. Happy-happy-joy-joy Just need to buy a head now
2. So may good ones already nominated - I'll put forward Clare Kenny
3. The opto-mod makes a huge difference to the standard pedal. The opto+ an improvement over that.
4.
That impedance you would be selecting is the the minimum impedance, so you could still use an 8 Ohm load, but only receive half the total wattage you would normally get.
WRONG! This rule is fine for most solid-state power amps. valve amps are a different bag all together. If anything you're better off going slightly lower rather than higher impedance
5. Update - just bought a used CS3 off the 'bay. Might have to order the ultra mod just to see what it's like with bass.
6. I've had the opto mod and upgraded to the opto-plus mod. At home the opto-plus was marginally better but in a band seting there wasn't a noticable difference. Out of those two, unless you love soldering, I'd go for the opto mod. I haven't tried the new ultra mod, but reading the description it might be more aimed at guitarists. Adds sparkle/jangle.
7.
Generally, shift work is a pain in the arse when the rest of the band work "standard" hours.
+1 The same situation meant I ended up being a "bedroom muso" for 7 years
8. Good one for <£100 to soften out the peaks. Boss LMB-3.
9. Casting my memory back, I remember these from about 20 years ago (?) Nice basses IIRC - japanese made in one of the well known factories. My memory of course could be completely wrong.
10. Sounds like a Graft could be just what I'm after - lightish, balanced and simple. For less than £1k
11. Cheers guys, good to hear it from the horses mouth too
12. That actually helps - when I was trying out Warwicks the bubinga ones were damn heavy whereas the ash ones were nice and light. Doesn't discourage me from thinking that the Grafts could be lightweightish?
13. I know there's a few ACG owners on here. I was wondering what they're like weight-wise. Particularly the Graft range as a full-on custom is beyond justification for me.

Bands Wanted

I've also emailed Epsom - our singer's old stomping ground
15. As a small child (6ish) I was started out on piano by my mum. As a family we used to go and see live music fairly frequently. I loved the instrument that made my chest chest - turned out it was bass guitar. Then my cousin got heavily into Kiss - being exposed to Gene Simmons at the age of 10 made me want to play bass even more, I thought he was so cool. A year or two of pestering at christmas and birthdays (and after being made to have guitar lessons for three months) I got my first bass. I still strum the 6 stringer (currently a 12-string), but bass is my instrument.
16.
I don't tend to mind kit share, I will happily loan the use of my head if it means I don't need to transport all 49kg of my cab to the gig. (was also an excuse to chat to the delicious female bass player of the headline band at my last show).
Agreed, kit share is great when you know about it and happy to lend out when someone else has a technical FUBAR. It's just finding out that (a) a promoter/venue owner has offered my kit without checking with me first.
17. "Where are you going with your amp? The promoter said I could use it." (Every time I've been asked this the promoter has not asked about kit-share)
18.
Ah, the neverending slap debate. The word is 'taste'.
Yep, if you do it, you haven't got it
19. As someone who has in the dim and distant past been on tour in a tech role with a few then up and coming pro bands, the joy of Fenders is that if something goes tits up you can beg/borrow/buy a cheap copy/get parts within a few miles of anywhere in the UK.
20. There's a Hagstrom shortscale too. It got an Okay review in BGM.
21.
We're there 1st October too.
I've just put that date in my diary - we're taking a couple of months break from September following our guitarist's missus having a baby( and she's not going to let him leave the house while on paternity leave) so it'll be nice to come and see someone else play there.
22. I think as well, for the speculator, there are more attractive propositions around right now in terms of potential return on your money. Fender prices are near to topping out I reckon.
23. I know a few of us play the Grey Horse in Kingston from time to time. Last week there were two basschatters on the same night
24. Lovely collection of basses, although the Ashdown Drophead is more my thing (not that I'm jealous at all.......oh no........not at alll )
25. Another waiting to scrape some funds here. Xmas then MOT and 8 family birthdays in the last four months haven't helped the bank balance.
