I had a Digitech Bad Monkey for a while. No noticable loss in the low end.

Sad news indeed.... My condolences to his family and friends. I remember him joining the board and him saying that he was from Guernsey and had trouble finding people to play with. My eldest stepson lives there and plays guitar and drums. I kept meaning to ask him if I could give Jimmy his email address or mobile number. Could've been something positive for both of them. I'm kicking myself for my procrastination now.

If you've got a valve power stage (which you have) you MUST match the impedance. If the 4X10 you have i mind has 8Ohm drivers they could be rewired from 2 parallel pairs of drivers in series (totaling 8 ohms) to all in parallel (totalling 2 ohms) Bob's your uncle!

Best for - Range of kit - GAK. Great range of basses and amps. Something for all tastes and budgets. Exotica - American Guitar Centre. Hidden away above a regular high street music shop. Biggest collection of Alembics I've ever seen under one roof. Some nice Overwaters too right now and an Enfield which is stunning. Trying stuff out - Andertons. Pretty poor selection of bass stuff compared to guitars and pro-audio, but they do have lovely soundproof audition booths so you can really try stuff out. Most missed - A tie between The Bass Centre circa 20 odd years ago and Southern Sounds of Brighton in the early eighties (if only for putting up with me and my mates hanging out there playing on everything on the shop all day every day during school hols ). Can't think of any really bad music shops but plenty with poor customer service, crap stock, overpriced etc etc.

Question ?? is Ashdown EB12 180 watt combo any good ??
clauster replied to geoff916's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've got one and I love it (it's taken me a while to come round to it though). Bloody loud for the size too. -

Another one here with an ash bodied 'vette (4 string) and its natural balance does make it want to hang level. It's not obtrusive when playing, but when tuning it tends to slowly creep downwards. The big plus for it is that it's the lightest bass I've ever had.
I'm genuinely suprised that the Maxon is still here. only a few places seem to sell them in the UK and new they're like £200, am I doing something wrong?
I'd have it if your timing wasn't so bad - still recovering from Christmas and need to get my car serviced, MOTed and taxed. Just can't justify the cost at the moment, even though its a bargain at the price.

I'd given up bass a few years before I met the current Mrs Clauster. I thought I'd had enough of being in bands. I had a guitar to pick up when I had the urge and a number of friends to have a jam with over a beer or two. Then, one day when we were out for lunch with friends, the soon-to-be-Mrs Clauster turns round and says, "Zillah manages a band and they're looking for a bassist and guitarist. You could do it!" My reply involved a lot reasons for not doing it - the commitment to rehearse, play gigs to nearly empty venues, evenings spent hanging around for ages for just a 45 minute set, spend on kit and transport and rehearsal facilities and recording and more kit and strings etc etc. Her response was, "Oh go on, it'll be cool if you're in a band". So itried out and got the gig. And am actually having more fun then I ever did in my teens and twenties. Every so often I get the "Do you have to go to rehearsal?" and "why do you spend so much time with the band". All I have to do is remind her that I pointed all this out before she talked me into doing it (smug)

I met him when I handed over a bass to him last year - thoroughly nice guy. RIP

Thinking laterally..... You could leave the scratch plate on and raise the height of the strings from the scartchplate by having the neck shimmed and raising the action at the bridge. Gotta be easier / cheaper than a refinish.

BD: All I'm saying is, it'd be better if you added another string, perhaps a low B LF: For crying out loud boy! I invented the bass guitar! Now lets count those strings again 1.... 2.... 3..... 4....... See the answer is 4!

Learning a different instrument.....

I've been looking in to learning trumpet for a while, and am another flat dweller. Practice mutes will quieten you down to a volume where you shouldn't disturb the neighbours and Yam's Silent Brass makes you even quieter. BUT, I've been told they affect your intonation and shouldn't be used for the majority of practice time. The other biggie is finding a teacher - the only one I can find locally MIGHT have a vacancy for a pupil in 9 months time. -
My band are playing Kingston again - next Thursday (21st January) at the Grey Horse. Headlining this time, so won't be on 'til later in the evening. what tune/band that got you into bass ?
clauster replied to phil.i.stein's topic in General Discussion
Kiss made me want to be in a band, but I think it was Paul Gardiner of Tubeway Army that made me want to be a bassist. -
Not really mate, I've kinda resigned myself to the fact that Jazzes are the bass for me. Cheers for the offer, I'm sure I'll be seeing you soon.
Didn't think you would Was looking forward to seeing you last Friday. Shame the Forum's closed for the snow.

It's a passive DI box. My understanding is that you need an active DI for passive basses. Either will work for active basses.
