1. Korg Pitchblack, Korg Pitchblack Portable, one in my Pod XT and another in my Korg Sound-on-Sound. I think there might be a Quiktune somewhere to or I might have left that with my ex.
2. I would've had it if it had been under£300, but that's too steep for me.
3. It's such a personal thing. Fuzzes are very popular but I much prefer distortions. The Fuzzrocious Cat Tail sounds huge. COG and Idiotbox also do Rat clones that work great for bass.
4. The LMB-3 is a good, cheap utility compressor for bass (manages the dynamics but doesn't really do much for the tone). The new BC1-X looks good but I haven't tried one yet.
5.
Correct use of Soap by Magazine.I cant believe its 35 years old!
Seconded
6. I wonder what the price is going to be?
7. Depends on how loud your drummer and the rest of the band are. I used to get away with about 120W through 12". Our new drummer is STOOPID loud and I struggle with a Barefaced Compact with a Harte LH500 (not a quiet amp)
8. I've got two basses (US Std Precision and an Epiphany Thunderbird Pro IV). I broke a string once 30+ years ago. Occasionally I'll take both to a gig so I have a backup but mostly it's one or the other depending on the gig and how I'm getting there.
9. Songs from 6 different decades mean I just can't choose one. The one I've linked to on FB today though is "Everyone Says Hi" just because I thought most people would go for classics
10. If you like the sound of the Roland Jazz Chorus then a valve amp may not be what you're after....... For recording I'd go with 51m0n's recommendation. Once you've got a great signal recorded you and always re-amp that if you want a more coloured tone......
11. Will this pedal run on batteries? I can't find any info on that on the manufacturer's website
12. December 1982 the Jam played their last ever concert at the Brighton Centre. I had a ticket but stupidly told it for four times what I'd paid. I was 13 and didn't know the meaning of regret. I don't even know what I spent the £20 on.
13. I have a compressor. I like it and use it, but I could live without it and sometimes do.
14. If you fancy a Rat based pedal without loss of low end, they the Idiotbox Blower Box. Masses of low end.
15. I have the LH 500 and a rack mount compressor. The Harte site the says the fx loop is before the volume, but not on mine it isn't. Adjusting the volume on the amp means adjusting the threshold on the compressor. The LMB3 is a nice compressor pedal for not a lot of bucks. I've had a few different pedal comps and IMO you've got to spend 3X the price of a used LMB3 to get something significantly better.
16. But the one before that was more - Reeves Gabrells and his Imaginary Friends. He's also playing guitar for the Cure now and they were there in the same room as me.
17. Hooton Tennis Club at the end of last month
18. Could you give an example of the sound you hear that you think is compression? As other's have said, ovnilab.com is a great resource. I love compression. But not all compressors are created equal. After 20+ years and lots of different pedal compressors, I'm now using a rack compressor. It's great, and using a low threshold and very low ratio it subtly thickens my tone but doesn't kill my dynamics - compression as a tone tool. This then goes through to the second channel, with a high threshold and high ratio to catch any unwanted accidental spikes and makeup gain set to make the most of my amp's headroom - utility compression. A lot of pedals give you control of only one or two parameters, the rest of the action is preset. The old Trace Elliott dual band was highly regarded by some. I had one and to me it was just an expensive, large and heavy DFA box . The BBE I found to be smaller, lighter, cheaper version of the same. I've had a few Boss CS2 and CS3s. They're the opposite. Extreme squash and pump and great as an "effect" compressor. The Maxon CP9 Pro+ was great for tone thickening. Boss LMB-3 great for "utility" compression. One thing I've learnt over the last few years is that a lot of recording engineers won't apply just one compressor to a bass, they will apply several compressors for different qualities.
19. Holy poop! I never realised the Cali was THAT big!
20. With something like this http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1505063.pdf Although this is a 4 pole speakon. I don't know if you'd need to find a 2 pole speakon splitter.
21. Really nice guys. My wife has known Isaac (the singer/drummer) for years since they worked together, and I've watched Slaves' progression with interest. It's been really good to see someone who has worked bloody hard begin to get somewhere.
22. This weeks: GASing for an Epiphone Jack Casady. Preferably in gold.
