1. What about the lengthening mod on the E and B strings?
2. 1 German
3.
I tried to turn the screw for the E string and found it's stuck
Have you got a JAN I? If so, I have heard over on the Warwick forum that the screws can loosen in the nut and rattle. A long shot if the E string screw is stuck, but might be worth checking?
4. Not excessive amp settings by any means.
5. Hi Dave, There were bits edited out of my last post (cos it was long and rambling) on reflection it would've been better to leave them in. One point was similar to 51m0n's point about ventilation, another was about amp settings (input gain, overall boost from eq, master volume). If the first is poor and the other adds up to "quite a bit" then my suggestion counts. I'm not saying there is a design problem with MB stuff at all (an LM2/3 is on my shopping list at the mo). Just suggesting that if an amp is being driven hard with a difficult load, it needs to be able to stay cool or will cut out for a rest here and there.
6. Don't bother with sticking a multimeter across the cabs' terminals - resistance and impedance and DC resistance are not the same thing. The LM2 should not see any difference between using one or both outputs. It's possible there's nothing wrong with anything. 4 Ohm is the limit of the LM2's loading and you've been driving it at gigging volume for two hours before the problem occurred, plus its a little amp. Even with nothing malfunctioning that poor little b*gg*r is going to be getting HOT in there and need a rest here and there.
7. Cool, Okay of I pm you next week to sort out collection of the bass Josh?
8. Wonderful Wesley is now with me! Paul, always nice to meet another Basschatter. Hope it all goes well with the covers band. First impressions of Wesley are different to what I was expecting - I was expecting to find the fifth string confusing to play and only useful as a thumbrest, but instead I'm playing across the strings more instead of up and down them. Damn wide neck though. Looking forward to seeing how things develop over the next few days. The only downside is I'm going to have to trim my sticker to fit. (Edited for usual Clauster typos)
9. Cool, if no-one else goes on the list in the meantime, I'll drop you a PM next week Wayne.
10. As far as I can see, yes.
11. The question shoud be why are you using fingers and/or plectra when you should be playing a proper bass with a bow?
12. I think it's me next..... If anyone thinks different, shout soon please. N
13. I'd say you probably like a slightly chunkier neck if the stingray feels more comfortable. I
14. Yorick, get yourself on Bandmix and Musofinder and you'll have a steady stream of requests from bands interested in your services. Today is the first day of the rest of your bass playing life!
15. I love the way in that Youtube clip that the guy has a peterson and a turbo-tuner but still manages to tune DOWN to the B! Talk about "all the gear - no idea"
16. I like Elites - not as bright as Rotos, Erneie Ball, etc out of the pack, but last longer before starting to sound dull in my experience. Can't comment on Nickels as I can't use them.
17. Those Kent Armstrongs sure are pretty!
18. Cheers for all the advice guys..... The Japanese P's are nice (very nice, and I know a lot of people rate them higher than USofA Fenders) and the Jap Fenders I have tried have been great, but....... I don't know why, they just don't appeal. It's a bit like Honda motorcycles... Fantastic quality, but no "soul", if you know what I mean. The G&L looks great and I really like switching out the treble cut for a bridge pickup that can be used to add a bit of Brightness instead. Stylish too. The two Skylines I don't like the styling of, but the "proper" ones look good and have pretty much the spec I want. Pricey though, and probably more than I want to pay for something that isn't exactly my spec. I've yet to hear a bad word about G&L though, so could be on the list. Which is what I should've said about the Lakland DD - budget isn't an issue within reason as I'm looking for a "keeper". Perhaps I'll source a cheap P bass and a cheap J neck and build a "beater" while I start saving for my dream P. Delbert you are a BAD MAN! Every time I see either of your P basses I just know I'm not going to be happy until I've got a Warmoth. It's just I know how long I'll be collecting parts for, and then have them sitting around while I get round to assembly and set-up and the consequent nagging by the wife and the "tidying up" (read hiding) she'll keep doing. The other option that occurred to me this morning is to do the Shuker course and build from scratch myself - I know (bar the painting/lacquering) that it's all within my abilities and it'll be in an environment where I will get it built and should come in on budget.
19. Noelk and Bigjohn - cheers, I wasn't aware of either of those. Off to peruse the G&L website
20.
Buy a Precision, get a jazz neck off ebay and swap them. (Just checking... jazz and precision necks are interchangeable, aren't they?)
Thought about that last night, but see comments re DIY
21.
Fender did produce Ps with jazz necks from the Fullerton factory in the 70s. I have a '78P to exactly that spec. I keep considering selling it but I would guess it's out of your budget.
That is gorgeous and one of the two combinations I'd love (either Black/Maple or Natural/Rosewood). For that, I'd take out a loan to top-up the budget. BUT, right now I want a work-horse main gigging bass and with that being a Fullerton Fender I'd end up keeping it on display and only playing it in the lounge. If you've still got it in a years time and get the urge to sell......
22. Cheers Raggy, It doesn't have to be Jazz slim (I'm pretty comfortable with a Warwick) but definitely P bass wide. That's well worth a look.
23. I'm thinking about P basses at the moment (well, for the last couple of years in truth). I played three Ps pretty much exclusively for my first 14 years as a bass player and that split single coil aat the sweet spot is how a bass should sound to me. But (and it's a HUGE but) my hands really can't cope with the width of a P neck. So I'm looking at P's with a J neck. I've been looking long and hard at Warmoth's website and I could put my dream bass together at a reasonable price. But I know what I'm like with DIY (two months to paint all four walls of a bedroom with two coats, 9 months and counting to even begin putting together a BFM cab) Off the shelf I can only find the Squier Pete Wentz (bargain price, good reviews, stupid graphic on the body and on the 12th Fret) and the Lakalnd Skyline DD (nice, but over my budget and for the same price I could get someone else to put together the bits of my choice from Warmoth). Is there anything else out there off the shelf which I'm missing?
24. I think I'm next after Paul (and currently last on the list), but I've got a heavy couple of weeks ahead, so I'm happy to wait until Paul has finished with it, evn if that's not going to be until mid/late June.
